Danielle have you considered removing the two raised beds all together and perhaps extending your rock patio area through the center. This would lead your eye right to your garden library and open up new design possibilities in that area. Minimizing the busyness in the center would focus your eye on the library!
Or swapping them back to where the stone deck currently is, then the stone deck and the ladies mantle could be in the middle area that leads up to the library
Your winter interest is lovely. I can see that you really need more privacy from street traffic in winter. That is one thing that I wish that I had done years ago. Make that your first priority. Your hydrangeas are going to be magnificent and strangers are going to want to peek into your flower areas and pick a few. Ask me how I know this? It might look nice if all of your raised beds were aligned the same way with a large path using either pea gravel or your large stones. Then the flower cottage would be central and the focus behind all those raised beds. I like the idea of making your stone patio larger. Wouldn’t it be fun if you could have some gatherings of garden book lovers? I did a tea party in my garden with eight women. We all brought a favorite garden book and shared ideas. Another time, one gardener brought her favorite book and told us which photos inspired her garden and then showed us photos of her garden completed. We also shared cookies and tea cakes decorated with edible flowers and tea sandwiches made with herbs. If the patio area were larger with seating for 8 to 10 people, you could give various garden lectures maybe one a season. I made a nice income doing this for years. It paid for a lot of plants, seeds and books over the years. I also lectured in other gardens by invitation only. Some of my younger friends who do videos often feel lonely and isolated. I loved being alone in my garden but I also enjoyed sharing it with other garden lovers from time to time.
I agree. Remove the 2 beds in the middle front of the library. Open the space to bring focus to the library., and perhaps add seating. I love your garden 💚 so peaceful 😌
Right off I noticed the garage and absolutely love it! I’ve only made it 30 seconds into the video and I’m already excited! I have skinnier beds in the middle of my raised bed area. There is still symmetry but the sizes difference gives it more interesting. I also bent 2 cattle panels between the raised beds and grow on them. If you are ever up near Syracuse NY, my Hellebore puts off tons of babies. Come tour my gardens. You are one of the reasons I now have cut flower gardens. I have lots to share.
Your yard is spectacular in all four seasons. Your garden library is a well placed focal point - it feels as if it’s always been there. Such an inspiration! I hadn’t realized how much of a difference painting the garage a dark charcoal would make. Fabulous! Maybe consider that same colour for your garden beds and chairs. Looking forward to seeing all the changes you’re planning to make this year. Grace makes my heart happy.
Beautiful! I can’t wait to see the transformation. I think cutting the central beds to three feet will look great! It will widen the walk to the new garden library and open up the view in the summer when you have the beds full of beautiful flowers. Those 3ft beds will look great along the walk. The dark garage looks beautiful! It will really make the plants pop! I hate to wish time away, but I am excited for spring.
4:13 ok so I’m not the only one who asks my dog a question as if I expect her to answer me. 😂 Your garden is just as lovely as a snow scene as it is in full bloom. I love the garage painted black! I think staining the beds to match the garden library is a good call. I enjoyed watching Grace playing in the snow. She’s such a sweetheart.
What an artistic vision you have❤❤!! I’ve always thought your garage would highlight those gorgeous hydrangeas more stunningly if painted a dark color. I bet you’ll love it! Here’s a really different idea on your beds… what about reducing the center beds to the width of your shed window & door? Have them lined with some stately vegetation for a look that would guide your eye forward, of course something simply beautiful but maybe not something that you would cut on. Then you could take the extra space between them for a small landing with perhaps a small feature. Also, the idea of a hideaway is so enchanting! I don’t know if I understood you correctly, but I wouldn’t attach it to the garden library. Make a charming little curvy path to the back fence & maybe incorporate that deciduous tree in the structure. This garden is so dreamy that I can’t imagine that you’d ever want to leave it!!! Thanks for all you do for our eyes & our hearts❤
Oh wow! Painting it charcoal grey really did make it fade into the background. Very interested in seeing how your plans grow and evolve. Have a beautiful day 💐
Thank you for sharing your garden plans, I enjoy the artistic designs of a garden and I enjoy watching others make changes and adjustments…gives me ideas!
The pictures were a nice reminder of how pretty your garden is through the seasons. Love the new garage color. Not sure making those centre raised beds long and narrow would work. I’d be tempted to make them shorter 6 inches on each long end as well. What about making those two beds two boards high and making them thereby a central feature? I modified my own raised beds in this way (made them taller) and love the change. Like the idea of staining the beds. Enjoyed seeing Grace romp around.
Danielle your vision is incredible! Even in winter your garden beckons. I think I would move the two center boxes out to either side so you could have a focal point in the center ( birdbath?) and still walk around. Yes one box would be shaded but I bet you could find enough to grow there. Love all your ideas!
I think your garden is beautiful in all seasons! The garden library looks so pretty sitting in the back with the snow! I also love the color of the garage!
Hi Danielle! Beautiful job on the garage! It will make your landscape pop! I would scoot the central & side beds together to widen the pathway. . .Making 2, 8' beds or 7' or 6' depending on the measurements. . Add the walking stones in the middle of each 8' bed for easy planting. I also can see from front angle & looking out the library to the house a Circle starting to form. A circle of grass extending from the main flower walk to the stone deck, with the balance of a bench on the other side would soften the hard lines of the beds & library. The benches & the stone deck would make up the grass circle, since u have grass all around. Hope this helps! Love your landscape design & informative videos! Your channel is my Top favorite. I have learned so much from you. So, thank you.
Simply put.... beautiful. Your video is an inspiration to look to always look ahead with positivity. Even though it is winter, I am going to find some projects today and get started. Thank you ✝️
Would removing the 2beds and dig out a rectangular or square step down and doing some kind of a centerpiece like a knot garden or parterre garden work? The garage looks so good! Can’t wait to see your spring garden videos!
I love the dark color on the garage! I have a shed in the back corner of our property I might have to paint a dark color now. I think making the two raised beds narrower would look fine and improve the flow through that area. The only other thing you could do (while keeping the symmetry) take them out entirely and move them forward (towards the house) but you'd have to move the stone rug forward too which would be an awful lot of work! Love hearing about all your plans for the garden; dreaming and planning the garden is something I love and probably what I like most about winter.
I love the deep gray color of your garage! It will look stunning when the garden starts to bloom... Thank you so much for showing what books you get your ideas from.❤ My garden library has grown because of your suggestions.
Your garage looks really nice painted the charcoal color. The garden library is also a a nice addition - everything looks so nice and it sounds like it's only going to get better with the changes you're making - So exciting!
Love the garage color😊 how about removing the 2 beds that are to close together and leave that open for your eyes to rest and appreciate the book nook, it’s such a full busy garden👍
This is exactly what I needed today. The snow is pretty, but I need the green…and the purple, pink, yellow, apricot of springtime! Now I know that ordering plants now for spring is not crazy but just good planning.🌺🌸
Your space is so very lovely all four seasons!❤️ Maybe two benches across from each other would look great if you need to remove the two center beds to make room for a wider walkway.
Your garden looks beautiful in the snow and I love the black paint on the outhouse. I’m excited for all of the changes coming! More hydrangeas! I don’t like plastic in the garden either but they serve as a placeholder until something permanent could be found or afforded. The hideaway sounds wonderful and takes me right back to being a child and finding secret spots to play in. The garden is magical in that way, taking one back in time to happy times. Thanks for the video! ❤
Looking forward to all the exciting changes you've planned, absolutely love the allee & book nook by the library. I vote leave the chairs as they are, they're a nice compliment to the color of the library. Seems like reducing the size of those raised beds, or removing them is the only choice, I can't think of where in the yard you'd have room for them.
I think reducing the center cut flower beds will look nice and make harvesting of flowers much easier. I love the dark paint on the garage! I’ve seen that in other gardens and it really makes the plants stand out. I look forward to seeing you develop your plans for the spaces.
Danielle 🥰 What an incredibly lovely surprise to sit down to watch your video AND hear our names! Thank you so very much for sharing the love. We (along with everyone else here in the comments) can't wait to see your plans come to life this year 💐♥
I think making the 2 center beds 3ft would look fine. You could also make the one on the right 3ft since you cant push them back on that side and push both beds on the left back to widen the middle path. Those would then stick out though but you could also lengthen the other beds to match them if you dont mind the beds being different lengths. I like mine being different but you might not. Just a suggestion!😊
You're so imaginative, Danielle! I love the new color on the garage, and the garden library looks like it's been there forever. I love your other ideas and don't think that narrower beds wouldn't look right because your eye will naturally follow the path. I get what you're trying to do with the flower walk, but I do like the point-counterpoint of flowers and shrubs, and won't you still want greens for your arrangements? Still everything looks really amazing. You've done an incredible job on what sounds like a relatively tight budget in a not-that-big area 💚
I love all your plans - and I love Gracie! How about just turning your middle raised flower beds, so that all of them are the same size, and face the same direction? It would create a wider middle path, and even more formal symmetry.
Your gardens are so incredibly beautiful in all seasons. I am always amazed at your skill and creative vision. I think making the two beds narrow is a good solution, I know you need them for cut flower production, and that wouldn't take out too much. I am trying to add more and more bulbs, as they certainly deliver flowers!
5:27 is there space that you could rotate the middle beds so that all the raised beds have the same orientation? Then you would have a central path in the middle and a row of beds on each side. You might loose planting space, but you'd get a clean symmetrical look that has the library as a Focal point destination
Love your ideas!! And how you’re able to be very creative knowing that by doing small things you continue to give yourself creative liberty for years to come! Some people’s huge overhaul mega budget projects aren’t relatable and it’s hard to find inspiration.
It's exciting to hear of your garden plans, Danielle! Winter is a great time for reflection and planning out changes. As far as the garden beds are concerned, I think making the two center beds less wide would be a good solution, so you have a bigger passageway. I don't think it will be that noticeable and it's okay to have two beds slightly smaller. I would also leave them in their natural color, as well as your chairs. Staining furniture and beds will be a maintenance issue for you, and I think the contrast with the shed is just fine. It keeps the eye moving around the garden vs. having everything the same. One other suggestion, you indicated you would be adding hellebores near your garden arches. While I think they would look fine along the border, I was thinking the Lady's Mantle would be even prettier. The Lady's Mantle has a beautiful wispy look that would look wonderful with the plants you have. Adding Lady's Mantle inside the garden, interplanted with the other plants you have there, would provide you with some cut flowers during the summer, and their lime-colored leaves provides a pop of color. It also ties in the Lady's Mantle you are adding to the stone patio area. I hope these ideas help. Whatever you do, it will be beautiful!! Enjoy the snow! (PS--The new garage paint is beautiful!)
So lovely to hear you chat about all your ideas and I love the charcoal colour you’ve painted your garage. In fact you’ve given me a great idea to paint my garden cabin which is 6m x 4m so quite large and I might do it dark too, it’s currently light like yours was. Of course I will have to persuade my husband first!! All looks gorgeous in the snow. Love your videos ❤
Your garden is so beautiful in the snow! I love hearing your design process thoughts. Personally, I think staining the raised beds and chairs to match the garden library is a really good idea. It's just like using the stone for all of your paths. It adds cohesiveness to your garden.
Can you flip those two beds to match the orientation of the others that are better spaced for walkways. The easiest solution is to make those two beds narrower once tulips bloom. But you would lose that production space. I love your plans to create hidden spaces, screening, privacy and rooms. I'm taking notes! We have a wide open blank space backyard currently, but we are in the middle of putting up a large greenhouse which will give us an instant privacy block & some structure to start working from.
I love the garage color! It really makes everything around it pop while somehow disappearing at the same time. I'm am impatiently patiently waiting for spring!
I really don't think that making the center boxes more narrow would look bad at all and I am one who likes symmetry and I think it would be fine. And then I can see a path going through using the same stone as the patio. But of course, you are the one who has to be happy with it. While I was watching this, I was thinking: "She needs to widen the path through there." and as soon I thought it, you mentioned it...which I thought was cool :) LOL Kim
Love the vision! I have the same problem with trespassing! Even if it is to complement my efforts - it annoys me so much …I’ve had to put up a private property sign.
All exciting things happening in your garden. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Soon enough spring will be here and we'll be knee deep into gardening.
Hi Danielle. I'm telling you; Gracie thinks that garden library is her house! lol. A nice big doghouse just for her. I think the book nook is a wonderful idea! any little secret garden hideaway is always enchanting. I would agree with you to widen the path to the garden library. I like your new garden fountain for this year. Great idea to plant the hydrangea allee' I am looking forward to all your new plans. Your garden looks so pretty in the snow with all its winter interest you have got going on. The garage will be less jarring, and you will have more contrast with it painted charcoal. Your hydrangeas will really pop! I don't think the anemones will return in your zone...but what a gorgeous display it is going to be this year. I actually like the idea of staining the chairs and the raised bed boarders in the same stain as the garden library. You have other black pieces to pick up the garage paint color. Thanks for another peaceful garden video. 😍
Love your garden, looking forward to seeing your new plans. You asked about the raised bed re-alignment….the middle one appears to be not exactly in line with the others, I would straighten that. I would move your lounge chairs ever so slightly to allow to move your raised beds just a little to give you a wider path, maybe make them a little smaller than the rest? Perhaps those beds could be used to plant cut flowers that don’t take up so much space. Fabulous winter interest! What happened to the metal walls you had put up to surround your property?
This will look beautiful. I love the dark garage. Please share the color i love it. I would love to do my fence that color. I really think the beds are fine. A bigger walkway would be better but it think its fine or just make them like 3 and 1/2 on each side and it will give another foot. I really love the idea of more hydrangeas also. The more flowering shrubs the better. Please share the color and brand please.
I would take just 6 inches from each of the 2 middle garden beds and that would give you another foot of walking space but doesn't cut that much growing space in them. It won't be a huge difference in the look of it but help in the walk-ability through there.
Your gardens are beautiful! I wish I knew how to do this w out spending $1000s. My new home ls pretty much a blank slate and no trees. I wish I knew how to get some stuff built up fast.
Looks so pretty in the snow. Are you able to create the the natural gazebo to the right if your book nook? It could create a soft, pleasing for you and the neighbors, natural presence for privacy and property delineation. Love love love the charcoal garage. Consider staining your chairs/wooden garden seating that same charcoal. It could visually tie into your grandma’s bench, and effectively make them visually disappear when not in use. More elegant to go with your English garden new stone pots. Thoughts?
I think that’s a great idea for the book book. I started to think about that after I filmed this. Perhaps I can even use the existing shrubs to create it. Thanks for all your great suggestions.
I love the ideas of the ladies mantle, there is an amish farm in Cochranville, PA that I go to for plants , they have so much there and I know they have large amounts of ladies mantle. its about 20 minutes past Longwood Gardens. Love the 2024 plans for the garden. You inspire me and my gardens very much
AWEsome plans to the upcoming gardening season!!! YES, to the mass planting of anemones in the front garden. YES, to the "Book-Nook". YES, to the hydrangea allee. YES, to the charcoal garage. Yes, to the hellebore groundcover. (I've got Black Scallop ajuga at my daughter's and it looks LOVELY when in bloom; and even when it's not!). YES, to staining the garden beds & chairs to match the library. I like the central gardens as they are, but a foot smaller would work, too. Not seeing your vision with Lady's Mantle growing thru the cracks of the deck, but I'm sure if YOU envision it, it'll be aMAzing (as are the rest of your gardens). LOVE the bamboo walkway. And LOVE Gracie's antics today!!! (TOO cute!). Tell us more!!!!!
Danielle have you considered removing the two raised beds all together and perhaps extending your rock patio area through the center. This would lead your eye right to your garden library and open up new design possibilities in that area. Minimizing the busyness in the center would focus your eye on the library!
Oh yes that’s a great idea!
Exactly my thoughts.
Awesome idea😊
Great idea

I feel like part of what we do is for others to also appreciate the beauty we create.
What a lovely idea. Wish I could have been a part of one of your lectures.
Love the garage in black, it looks elegant. A dog with snow all over his face is pure joy, thank you Grace!
I agree. Remove the 2 beds in the middle front of the library. Open the space to bring focus to the library., and perhaps add seating. I love your garden 💚 so peaceful 😌

I really think the dark garage is perfect with your brick house, rustic library, and your lovely garden.
I noticed the painted garage right away too! GRACE. She is amazing. What a great companion
Beautiful! I can’t wait to see the transformation. I think cutting the central beds to three feet will look great! I enjoyed watching Grace playing in the snow. She’s such a sweetheart.
A magical walk in the snow. And while watching I know what changes I'll be making to my beds. It all sounds wonderful.
It sounds like you have wonderful plans in place to make your gardens even more magical! Will be eager to follow along with you!
My husband think I was crazy for painting all the structures black but…it turned out great! I even painted the roof 😂

Warm Greetings from Bangalore, India. Your place looks Picture Postcard Perfect.❄️❄️
Would removing the 2beds and dig out a rectangular or square step down and doing some kind of a centerpiece like a knot garden or parterre garden work? The garage looks so good! Can’t wait to see your spring garden videos!
I would like the boxes 3 foot wide. The first thing I noticed when I saw your garden was how tight the walkway was there.
I love the dark color on the garage! I have a shed in the back corner of our property I might have to paint a dark color now. I think making the two raised beds narrower would look fine and improve the flow through that area.
Your garden looks amazing even in winter...im excited for your new project😊

Looking forward to all the exciting changes you've planned, absolutely love the allee & book nook by the library. What a beautiful garden. It looks so peaceful in the winter! I agree with you completely about the paint color on the garage! Happy gardening!
Love Grace’s bandanna, maybe next year 😉
Stunning garden .. how about orienting all raised beds the same direction.? Can you fit 2 rows of 5 beds, all parallel?
Danielle 🥰 What an incredibly lovely surprise to sit down to watch your video AND hear our names! Thank you so very much for sharing the love. We (along with everyone else here in the comments) can't wait to see your plans come to life this year 💐♥
Your library is a great dog house!
So inspiring as always! Thank you for sharing your design (and thought) process with us :).
Your garden is so beautiful! Loved the flashbacks to your lush green garden! Can’t wait til spring! I would stain the beds and chairs to match! Deanna

@@NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens Oh, good luck! Love from Ingela - Sweden. ❤️
estate sales are great for garden furniture and garden decor in general ... usually very cheap top!
Your library looks SO pretty with snow on the roof!
I love the dark charcoal! Everything looks great and you’ve done a wonderful job with your plans.
I think it will be beautiful and more comfortable to make this beds thinner to fit the space.

Love the dark paint on the garage! Great decision!! Can't wait to see it with the solar lighting.
I think making those 2 boxes 3’ wide would be great. The central path needs to be the same width going to the garden library.
Gražiai suplanuotas sodas... O jau šuo koks laimingas🙂
Excited to see your plans come to life this summer! Grace was so squirrelly, adorable, and fun to watch today!
It all sounds wonderful. Your garden is an absolute dreamy place.
The Book Nook sounds sufficient 😊
This was a fun video 😊
So excited to see the book nook!!
I love the charcoal color!
I would make the 2 center beds smaller. I think it would look great.
Love all your plans. It’s just going to be beautiful. I also love Grace!
Excellent choice to paint the garage. One of the best things you've done in your beautiful garden.
Love the paint on the garage👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Love the vision! I have the same problem with trespassing! Even if it is to complement my efforts - it annoys me so much …I’ve had to put up a private property sign.
Beautiful video. I love all your new ideas and can’t wait to see it come together. Love the color of the garage too.
All exciting things happening in your garden. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Soon enough spring will be here and we'll be knee deep into gardening.
You could make a living harbour with Willow, which wouldn't be so expensive . I've seen a couple that are amazing.
Thank you for the inspiration as always, you inspired me to make my own cut flower business
Wow Danielle your garden looks so beautiful dress in white! And the library nook seems like is always been there.❤
Love your garden, looking forward to seeing your new plans.
Love the garage being painted charcoal! Yes! Paint the raised beds too!
Love, love, love the charcoal gray on the garage.
I would take just 6 inches from each of the 2 middle garden beds and that would give you another foot of walking space but doesn't cut that much growing space in them. It won't be a huge difference in the look of it but help in the walk-ability through there.
Great idea!!!!!!! Thank you!
you could flip the beds the same direction as the other 4 in the back
Your gardens are beautiful! I wish I knew how to do this w out spending $1000s. My new home ls pretty much a blank slate and no trees. I wish I knew how to get some stuff built up fast.
The garage is brilliant! Love all the plans. ❤️❤️❤️
What a gorgeous Winter Garden! Exciting plans, too. I think I'll build a Book Nook also! Excellent!
Looking forward to seeing your changes. You have great vision. Thx for sharing! 💐
Just a thought; move all the flowers beds on the left side over to the left.
Wow, it’s amazing what a coat of paint can do. The garage looks awesome!
