Anant Nagarkatte (born 4 September 1948), popularly known as Anant Nag, is an actor from Karnataka, India. Reputed for his natural, under-playing style of acting, Ananth has carved a niche in Kannada filmdom.Kannada cinema. He has acted in Marathi, Tamil,Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi movies.
He has also acted in Malgudi Days, directed by his younger brother Shankar Nag based on the stories by R. K. Narayan.. He is a recipient of six Filmfare Awards South and five Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Actor. His entry into Kannada films was through legendary G. V. Iyer's Hamsageethe. It is one of the most critically acclaimed movies. Nag and fellow popular actress Lakshmi are a hit-pair in Kannada movies. They acted together in more than 25 films. Chandanada Gombe, Naa Ninna Bidaalare (1979), Benkiya Bale, Ibbani Karagitu, Makkaliralavva Mane Thumba, Mududida Taavare Aralitu, Amma and other movies turned out as blockbuster. He experimented with negative roles (Shanti Kranti). He held his own with matinee idol Rajkumar in the movie Kamana Billu. Bhakta Prahlada, in which Rajkumar played Hiranya Kashyapu and Ananthnag as Narada muni was a big success. His comedy-streak was showcased in Ganeshana Maduve, Gauri Ganesha, Udbava, Undoohoda Konduhoda, Beladingala Baale, Hasyaratna Ramakrishna, Yarigu Helbedi, Dhairya lakshmi. Many Thanks for posting this movie. With this I want to share my experience. I and my family donot have any music background and we belong to a simple agricultural family. The acting of Ananath nag inspired us that any one of my family member should be a musician. At that time my younger sister was only 10 years I and she tried hard and ultimately she cameup as an national gold medalist in karnataka classical music ( She won first place all india music copitation held at tirvannamallai) and at present she is in states. Even now I made it a principle to hear and/view this keertana in this movie at leasst daily once.

Thanks a lot for the movie. One of the best kannada movies. I don't recollect how often I used to watch the movie during my MSc days at Alankar theater in Bangalore. Anantnag, a relatively new comer at that point of time has given a fantastic acting.. Thanks a lot

One of the most magnificent movies of all times.Only Sri G.V.Iyer could have produced such a classic film.The most sensitive role of the musician Venkatasubbaiah is done by the most wonderful actor of all times Anantharam Nag in a very sensible manner.Only he could have done justice to such a role.Sri Balamurali great as he was has become I.mortal by singing in this film.It sure deserves an Oscar but unfortunately in the west Indian that too Kannada films are rarely recognized which is a tragedy.

Sadly Sri G V Iyer is not adequately respected and honored by either the film industry or the connoisseurs. His contributions for Karnataka’s cultural heritage is enormous.

Watching this movie is an ethereal experience due to its rightful emphasis on plot (music) over entertainment and the unique narrative style. Every scene of the film is pleasingly musical and does full justice to the plot. This visual poem is a real musical film in letter and spirit. It proves that film is a director's medium. If an ordinary director had made this film with the box office in mind, it would have been a mediocre film with artificial lavish sets, ostentatious costumes, unnecessary dialogues, too much melodrama and outrageous performances. But G.V. Iyer, thankfully without resorting to such gimmicks, has delivered a masterpiece with simple, natural settings, understated costumes, minimum dialogues, subtle acting, wonderful music and superb cinematography.
By the way, the film is closer to reality and nearer to heart than the original novel, on which it is based.

Exactly, people often blame democracy but never criticize socialism. Our Ancient culture was always capitalistic and gave priority to meritorious people. The western system of equality has normalized India and no one appreciates true talent in India today. For e.g current generation Bollywood movies are the best use case. Socialism Kills meritocracy. Khangress is the main reason for this by doing appeasement politics but BJP has become new Khangress today!
