This is great; just finished; picture to follow; two hints--if you want the infinity/Mobias strip twist do that before you sew the two ends of the tube AND you can stitch all the way around and use the zipper opening to turn it back this way you don't have to hand stitch the last few inches of the closing. Also I used a scarf I already had-measurements were perfect. Finally, stitch completely around (as you did for the tube closing) but do this just below the zipper to form a pocket so that items don't wander throughout and you can also sew a few inches on either side of zipper to prevent items wondering around--much quicker to find. Thank you for posting this and keeping it short!!!!
Hi just made a practice one from a spare length the only changes i made were I pinned the tube ends together and pulled through the open zip allowing me to join the ends straight round; I also the sewed along that seam to give the pocket a bottom. Brilliant tutorial!
Hi Whitney, I love watching your tutorials!!! Thanks for sharing all these beginner projects. They're quick and easy sews not just for beginners, but also for people like me who may not have a lot of time, but enjoy sewing! I really like this scarf! It will be great for gifts! :)
love all your videos.....you explain things very well...without rushing so very easy to follow! I am going to learn to sew zippers so I can make this scarf for xmas gifts this year!
If you put the scarf on then put things in the pocket, gravity keeps things in place. But feel free to add a line of stitching at either end of the zipper to form a smaller pocket.
i love this video! My confusion is with how the pocket is formed. Im a newbie at sewing but love these scarves. Ive made them the hard way but this would save me more time and thus making more. :0) Any info from anyone will be greatly appreciated. TY
Gravity. Put things in after scarf is on and take them out before taking it off. They will sit in the same spot the entire time. But if you're concerned about it you can add a row of stitching at either end of the zipper to close in a smaller pocket.

Are you using the whole scarf as a whole pocket. Or did you make a small pouch inside. Also you dont need to leave an opening if your not adding a pouch, just turn it wrong side out through the zipper, just a thought
You can add seams to close in the pocket, but I wanted mine to be less obvious. The hole I left was out of necessity, that particular seam can not be sewn all the way closed because the scarf itself is in the way.
hi, love your channel, I've been looking for a make up brush apron tutorial for ages, and I thought I'd just ask as you said add suggestions lol. the kind I've seen are similar to craft aprons but have rows of pockets and as in new to sewing I like to watch tutorials to grasp the how to, there are lots on pintrest but non on how to recreate, just a thought in case your ever bored lol x
This video was requested based on a pocket scarf several scammy websites were selling a few years ago. I made it like the original ones which as far as I could tell had no pocket bag. But you could easily sew a line of stitching through both layers about 6 inches past the zip to prevent anything from falling farther into the scarf.
Do you mean a middle divider? I show you to put on in on my crossbody bag tutorial. You can mix that in with my basic tote bag (just make the insert the same width as your tote bag pieces) and it should work out. Hope that helps! +Kate Liles Gravity. I wait until I have the scarf on to put items in then take them out before removing the scarf. But you can sew a line on each side of the zipper area (perpendicular to the zipper) to make a separate area.
+0rg4niz3dC4t4str0phy Most people put an item in the pocket while wearing the scarf, gravity holds it in the front area, and take it back out before taking the scarf off. You can sew some lines to make it a smaller pocket area, but depending on the fabric you use the lines might be visible.
Really neat idea don't know if I would want my phone in there but yeah neat. I check both my tablet and Kindle and the video was not your regular clear video it looked rather out of focus
Trayne1837 I probably won't keep my phone in I either unless I happen to wear something with no pockets and need it to be handy. But it's all I had on me when I was filming. The video is clear and in focus for me, so not sure why it looks out of focus for you :/
I am taller and bigger than the average woman ... a regular infinity scarf doesn't sit the same way on me; its too short and instead of looking cool and fashionable and loose fitting ... it strangles me, lol .... should i double the length? if you don't wrap it around a 2nd time where does it come up to on your body? i will work out my length from that i think
I saw this on FB, too. (so happy I found your video because I prefer making one myself.) I saw that you just added a zipper, but did you sew across the scarf to create a designated pocket or is it just one long tube?
A lot of companies have stolen footage from my video for their ad :( I did not see across to form the pocket because I put the scarf on then add items and remove them before taking the scarf off. But if y9u feel more comfortable with it you can definitely add two more rows of stitching to make a more defined pocket.
Could you make a hobo bag and go really slow with great views of how to do those horrible hobo bag straps? I never understand how to do them and they always look terrible!

💚 love that you used a table cloth! I use all kinds of table.cloths, sheets and shower curtains

I made one of these tonight but added a pocket because my phone was pulling the fabric too much - love it - thank you Whitney :-D

Thank you! I'm so glad you like them! I agree, sometimes I just want to whip up a quick project so everyone can use something easy now and then :)
I made many and never thought of adding a zip. Love it. Thanks for sharing. 👏🏻🌺
Love this one I’m a mail carrier and this would be great for winter
genius!! this is great for no pocket days!
Exactly!
love all your videos.....you explain things very well...without rushing so very easy to follow! I am going to learn to sew zippers so I can make this scarf for xmas gifts this year!
I love this idea. I'm going to make some for Christmas. Thanks Whitney.
Such a good idea 😀 I made my mum an infinity scarf for her birthday in Sept, might steal it back & add a zip 😊
Hehe too funny! So glad you liked the video :)
This is such an awesome idea! Love it!
Where’s the pocket? Are all your belongings just floating around the scarf? Love your fabric choice!

Love this Whitney!!! Great idea! What a great suggestion by a viewer :)
My infinity scarf is a little wider with a pocket. It doubles as a hoodie under my coat. Fabulous on windy days with a zip pocket.
Brilliant idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks :)
this is wonderful!! thanks whitney!
Wow thank youwhitney..❤❤
So creative ! I love it
Thank you!
This is so clever!!!

Love your modeling poses 😉🤗
KrazyBeautifulz Hehe thanks! I'm terrible at trying to show off something on camera :p
Nice work, thanks for the lesson.
Glad you like it!
How would you add a lined pocket? There are so many tutorials but they are all unlined
I absolutely love this!
Love it! Thanks for creating the playlist. 😍
You're welcome! Glad you liked it!
I Love It! 😎👍🏼Thanks, Whitney
This is wonderful! Thank you!
Love it!
Such a great idea! Thank you so much for posting this video :)
would like to request a tutorial for a Passport holder pocket/travel wallet.
thanks.
Whitney you are awesome
cool...will try sometime ...
This is cute!!!!
Thanks! Glad you like it :)
Love this! So neat!
Thank you!
I already have an infinity scarf I can use, but how do you keep everything from sliding around inside the scarf?
Gravity. Put things in after scarf is on and take them out before taking it off. They will sit in the same spot the entire time. But if you're concerned about it you can add a row of stitching at either end of the zipper to close in a smaller pocket.
Are you folding it right sides together or wrong sides together to start at 1:47?? I can't tell with this fabric
It's right sides together.
Great idea!
Great idea! Thanks Whitney! :)
Glad you liked it :)
How do you keep the things you put in the zipper from going through the scarf?
Gravity. Put things in after scarf is on and take them out before taking it off. They will sit in the same spot the entire time. But if you're concerned about it you can add a row of stitching at either end of the zipper to close in a smaller pocket.
You are sew cute!

Can you make this using "minky" fabric? Is it more difficult to work with?
It would definitely be more difficult to work with because minky slips around while sewing. If also might get caught in the zipper some.
so this is one long pocket?

I missed where you installed the pocket fabric. Did I miss it?

Hi Whitney I just can't find an easy nice tote bag with a middle device HELP PLEASE
Do you mean a middle divider? I show you to put on in on my crossbody bag tutorial. You can mix that in with my basic tote bag (just make the insert the same width as your tote bag pieces) and it should work out. Hope that helps!

Whitney Sews yes divider sorry ... ok I will check it out thanks I thought I had looked all through yours must have missed it
I'm going to make one but put a lining in the pocket so my stuff will stay put....you should make another video but add the lining to it
What keeps the items in the pocket from going all of the way to the end of the scarf?
+Kate Liles Gravity. I wait until I have the scarf on to put items in then take them out before removing the scarf. But you can sew a line on each side of the zipper area (perpendicular to the zipper) to make a separate area.
Awesome
Hi Whitney that look easy to sew 18 by 70 right
Yes, that is correct :)
Does it not get lost in the tube, say a small pair of carkeys....would it not be better to add an actual pocket as barrier?
+0rg4niz3dC4t4str0phy Most people put an item in the pocket while wearing the scarf, gravity holds it in the front area, and take it back out before taking the scarf off. You can sew some lines to make it a smaller pocket area, but depending on the fabric you use the lines might be visible.
Did you make one to sell?
Lenora Dorsey I can...have enough left for two more. Are you wanting one?
Yes please!
Yes please!
Message me on Facebook and we can get everything worked out :)

Sorry. Have you tried this using an invisible type zipper. I think that that type of zipper would better hide the zippered area.
smart

I wouldn't double the length, maybe add 50% extra to the length. I sold this scarf so I don't have it anymore to measure, sorry.
@@Whitney_Sews thats ok ... thank you for answering x i appreciate it :)
I lost 😞 my card when I do groceries. I need this lol😂

There is a company using clips of this video to sell their version of this
I have a screen cap of the video on face book
Can you send me a message on my Whitney Sews Facebook page with a link? Thank you
