Jim Carrey is an awful, awful person. Do research into what he's actually like in real life. By all accounts he's a complete pain in the arse to work with and is a very very difficult sort of personality who ends up completely pissing off everybody he works with, which is partly why he's been pretty much blacklisted from Hollywood in recent years and doesn't star in films anymore, he's only ever side characters really. And it's why he became a painter. Read about what he was like when making Man On The Moon. Jerry The King Lawler fucking _hates_ him to this day because of making that film with him. You think Jared Leto's method acting for the Joker in suicide squad was bad? It doesn't even compare to how much of a raging asshole Jim Carrey was on that film. And don't forget about the woman he literally killed. There was a make up artist from Ireland that had worked with Jim Carrey on a film, and she was married, but he didn't give a shit, he started an affair with her and swept her away using his vast wealth and fame, but also got her hooked on opiates he supplied to her and she had to continue being with him if she wanted to avoid withdrawal (this is a type of domestic abuse, by the way). So she left her husband to be with Jim, but then only a few weeks after upending her entire life to be with him, leaving her home (and her home country) and her husband and all her friends and family (i.e. her entire support network), Jim Carrey gave her herpes (because he was sleeping with other women other than her, that she didn't know about). And so when she told him she had herpes, even though it was Jim who gave that to her, Jim decided to dump her via text message and called her "disgusting" and other horrible things. This was, again, after she'd left everything she'd ever known, her entire support system, and she was entirely on her own now, in a new country. Then Jim gave her one final gift, tons and tons of the opiates, and told her to kill herself with it. So she did. She overdosed and died. Jim never gave a shit because he's a sociopath. The ex husband then sued Jim because of it, but of course Jim being super wealthy, he could hire the best lawyers and so of course won that court case. Even though he supplied the drugs that killed her. He should be in prison. He's an abusive asshole cunt. But yeah I'm not making any of this up, you can go Google it and find out all about it, and read the texts he sent her. So now he's been more or less blacklisted from Hollywood in recent years because of being a raging asshole on set to all the cast and crew he works with, and for killing that Irish woman, he's now pretending to be depressed, pretending to be a nice and humble guy, and pretending to have become a painter to help his depression and to give him something to do now that most Hollywood studios don't want to work with him. He's doing all of this to garner sympathy so that people will forget about the woman he killed. Yes, he's using the same tactics as literal war criminal George W Bush who is also trying to make people like him by becoming a painter. Don't fall for their lies. All the evidence suggests that Jim Carrey is a sociopath, a domestic abuser, and a killer, who is trying to garner sympathy right now. It's all simply a PR campaign, because again most studios refuse to work with him anymore. The name of the woman Jim Carrey killed is Cathriona White. Don't forget her name. Google it. @@DD-ix3bm As far as I know it’s a condition that’s been dubbed the Truman syndrome but it’s not official recognised yet. Still there’s hundreds of cases reported about people experiencing the delusion of feeling like they’re being recorded, that everyone they meet are actors and that most circumstances they find themselves in to be pre-organised events.
This movie was perfect for Jim Carrey. He's hilarious and has that zany energy, which was really used well when Truman slowly unraveled the truth of his life. Almost as if he was going crazy in the eyes of the audience (including us), but his balance with dramatic acting made this movie more ominous.
He really should have gotten an Oscar for his role in this film. The Oscars discriminate against comedians because deep down they know being a comedian requires more skill than being an actor

The Truman Show was probably one of the best movies Jim Carrey's ever starred in. It actively pokes fun at the idea of how movies and shows are made and I think it's just really damn special.
@@EricBCalhoun I agree. On the other side of the spectrum, Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind is absolute artistry and is one of the 3 movies I would take to live the rest of my life on another planet.
Truman gave him exactly what he wanted, a TV moment to remember, the perfect finale with his signature line, but he did it on his own terms. He was already free, but he CHOSE to still be the person he is, a chivalrous, helpful, and decent man, and gave the one who took the world away from him one last moment of engaging content for the viewers, before wandering off into freedom.
I always assumed it was exactly the opposite. He knew that his whole life was a TV show and that everything up to that point was fake. Whatever he said as he was leaving would be the final and biggest moment of the entire show's history; its legacy. Many people say that a show is only as good as its ending. So I thought him ending the show on the same thing they heard him say every day was an "F you" to the creator/director, Christof. He could've gone on a rant, and it would've been justified, but it also would've made it a memorable ending. He didn't want the show to have the grand ending Christof wanted. I assumed that is why it doesn't just end with him saying, "Good afternoon, good evening and good night." He also chuckles and says, "Yeah," while grinning, then he bows and leaves. It was his way of saying, "It's my life now." That's just my take on it.
@@Givens43But ending it with such a classic line is always bound to be great. Gives a sense of satisfaction for the viewers to hear it one last time. I think the same way you hear “I am Ironman” every Ironman movie and when he said it in Endgame, it was still epic.
I think it was his way to give the show a happy ending but on HIS own terms and by his own free choice, both acknowledging the worth of his old life regardless of its fakeness while giving himself a satisfying closure to begin his new life as a free individual
@@LlGHTSPEED I mean they kinda record him live so everything that he do and the director do will be shown the to world and also they only stop the live when something inappropriate happend

Remember that his entire life he had no idea he was in a show. When the director said "You're on TV!", he looked back at his life and realized how scripted it all was. And then he realized that his show had a tagline. And there's only one way a show like this should end:
I saw something that completely altered the way I see the scene. Truman was fighting against the show at this point. The director at this point was trying to salvage the show, ant get one more ‘TV worthy’ moment from him. Instead of giving him that, he just uses a canned, basic response, robbing him of his triumphant finale.
Personally I see it as “My life may have been a lie, but there are so many people who have enjoyed it and it’s not their fault. They at least deserve a proper sendoff.”
@@znv2008 Truman Show. Guy was "adopted" when he was infant (read. bought) by a corporation and make him be their live ad and serial. But he has started to see patterns in "everyone" around him (read. actors). For the rest of the story, you better see by yourself :)
I think maybe my favorite part about the ending of this is not necessarily that he leaves. It's that they show the entire world watching him with held breath and then absolutely erupting into cheers of support for him leaving. Even if it's probably pretty clearly a message of entertainment to the masses (especially given the immediate aftermath is them simply moving on to the next show), I just like thinking that literally everyone but Christof was ready for it to end and for Truman to finally live his life free from prying eyes even if those prying eyes were theirs.
it's actually really well done, because with Truman saying this line again it casts doubt on the whole show. it makes it seem like the entire show Truman was in on it, and is attempting to wrap the show up cinematically so not only does Christof lose his show, but the entire legacy is put into question. if this was intentional, it's insane writing

Such a absolute amazing movie!❤ The movie moved along so well and just built up so much anticipation that when the end finally came you just sat there like😮
On one hand, it’s a goodbye to the audience and him being free. But on the other hand, if you think about it, it’s a callback that echoes Truman’s broken perspective at this point. Even though he escapes into reality. Among the masses as just another face, there’s a chance he’ll be paranoid from now on. All of us know what’s real. But he’ll be looking at some random security cameras or some stranger eying him and saying “hi”, and wonder with doubt: what if I’m not really free? He’d be in constant doubt, questing what’s real and what could still be the studio prying on his life because he hadn’t truly left. While the rest of us live with certainty that our autonomy is our own.
I don’t know about you guys but Jim Carrey has always been my favorite actor since I was a kid! He has never played a bad part in a movie, just a phenomenal actor!!
nature vs nurture. his beautiful, free, understanding and loving nature, constantly tested and sifted thru a constructed reality, still prevailing in the end, letting go of all of the past and what it has done to him. the fact he is so willing to be free and move on, finally even showing his understanding for the whole show, with his catchphrase and the 'yeah' after it just adds so much to this character n hs arc. just beautiful
Seeing Truman look at his watch and say “vital signs are good” when we’re in a day and age of being able to do such things. And Truman show was created way before iwatch
What makes this scene so great was that it was just a giant 🖕to the creator, cause he wanted this great finally to his show but Truman gave him a lame one liner to end it all. Which ironically made it the perfect ending
I mean, I honestly think the majority of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is more horrifying. The journey through his memories, the only way he’s able to reflect and atone, but the thought that his journey and discovery will be for nothing as he loses his memories. That’s scarier to me.

It was his way of saying, "It's my life now."
That's just my take on it.
@@Givens43But ending it with such a classic line is always bound to be great. Gives a sense of satisfaction for the viewers to hear it one last time.
I think the same way you hear “I am Ironman” every Ironman movie and when he said it in Endgame, it was still epic.
Isn't it genius how the ending could be either interpreted as a fuck you to the creator, or as a "thanks for everything so far" kind of deal
I think it was his way to give the show a happy ending but on HIS own terms and by his own free choice,
both acknowledging the worth of his old life regardless of its fakeness while giving himself a satisfying closure to begin his new life as a free individual

jim carrey always gives me chills with his acting and he did not disappoint me on this one to
Jim Carrey is an awful, awful person.
Google it. And don't fall for his lies. What are you on about?
Remember that his entire life he had no idea he was in a show. When the director said "You're on TV!", he looked back at his life and realized how scripted it all was.
And then he realized that his show had a tagline.
And there's only one way a show like this should end:
I saw something that completely altered the way I see the scene. Truman was fighting against the show at this point. The director at this point was trying to salvage the show, ant get one more ‘TV worthy’ moment from him. Instead of giving him that, he just uses a canned, basic response, robbing him of his triumphant finale.

This guy is a legend
