If you want more of an “easy mode” the war reaper is perfect . You are actually able to do something in melee and probably are one of the best fighters in your warband . Now obviously if you want to play a necro who is slinging spells in the back , war reaper won’t do anything for you but it seems like the “easiest “ necro to spec to play.
The DHM is a tougher play than I'd have imagined, though I think you had some poor rolls losing so many minions early. One thing that could help is getting out in front more with your Necro to help soak some attention, and avoiding the softer minions as much as possible. Being capped at 2 Quality minions is pretty brutal though!
I think it would be ok if they were allowed to take the extra minions at th beginning, but trying to get to critical mass while bleeding minions is just brutal
