Still too early to call this for a final verdict, but I found some great stuff and some not so great stuff in my day 1 travels. Now I just need to queue up for an hour to get back on the server...
I will buy the expansion when it's with a - 50% discount, if it was 15 bucks instead of 30 I really think most people would accept this DLC much more easily.
The whole point of the mount time trials is to traverse around Aeternum on your new companion enjoying the landscape. You completely missed the point. If you’re only there for the destination, you won’t enjoy the journey. Which is exactly what happened for you.
This, yea he missed the point. I love the races…it’s enjoyable.. I love the new world biomes. You are over analyzing and forgetting the simple idea of different methods of reversal. It’s ok for some things to not be Uber efficiency and progression based. I think sometimes we forget that as modern gamers.
This is a horrible take on a poorly implemented system. Majority of the player base does not care about the "journey" because we all have spent hundreds of hours walking around Aeternum already. I shouldn't have to spend hours riding around on a horse just to be able to unlock a wolf, and then more hours to unlock a lion. This is a terrible design and it is mind numbingly boring. I haven't tried an actual race yet, but the time trials are bad for returning players. Maybe this is better for new players but overall it's a bad design
I loved the game and was one of it's biggest supporters for 3500h. Now I hate it. I've never played a game that pissed on my time investment more than new world. You will likely show the same emotions after the hype is gone. 1k hours in new world is not enough to only see the shit when you look into the world, but this is like Paris for tourists. If you're a tourist in Paris you're likely not gonna see it's problems, as opposed to a local. See you in more hours, friend.@@Z-MACx
The bottom line is that if there isn’t enough people playing then you won’t be able to get into certain missions to complete. Same issue I had after a month when the game dropped.
Good assessment tbh, as an old player looking to see if this is worth it im not so sure... feel most players are going to hit 65 in next few weeks and not have much more to do again. The area seems smaller than brimstone too? And the mounts while cool and Definitely needed! Are something you expect out of an mmo , not something that is a reason to keep you playing. At least for now with the low mount variety and paywalled skins
All pretty much spot on here with what you say mate. I do think New World as the base game is well worth it, especially when on sale for $20 or so. I’ve got so much value from it and have enjoyed it immensely. But for sure I would hold off and see how this pans out. As mentioned though, it’s still so early for me and this video… much of what I said could be wrong come a few weeks. But so far my view still remains the same…
@@cockneygamer and you made a good point to compare it to Brimstone in the video, are we getting a lot of value for the $30 vs the free expansion that brimstone was. Not saying $30 is expensive but the biggest thing NW needs is player growth and retention and not sure this xpac is going to do it
@UpgradeLemonade couldn’t agree more. I checked and the player base I believe was around 20k a day. Obviously that will have a big uptick with the expansion. But 3 months from now will that uptick remain? I agree with you there… I think this is more for the current player base than the new player base. For me the smart thing would have been to of released the DLC and New World as a special bundle for one month only or something and have it at $30 total. Get a whole fresh set of new players in.
More than a bit disappointing that they haven't added mounts to the base game and have essentially locked access behind a paywall. It's the only MMO I've ever played that doesn't have mounts, with the exception of STO, which has transporters instead.
I think as the NW devs indicated, its pay to continue, so the price of the dlc is associated not just to the content we get this season, but the upcoming seasons before the next expansion
Maybe I’m getting old, but I remember the expansions of WoW being absolutely huge for your $20. Like genuinely massive. But in fairness you also had to pay for a monthly subscription so maybe the comparisons are unfair.
@@cockneygamer They were huge, but they were also $60. I guess New World will be going the GW2 route of smaller and cheaper expansions (GW2 expansions are more expensive than New World for not much more the same amount of content)
This game has no future, I never saw a game introducing such a p2w expansion ever, people who don't buy it can't get level 65 and can't get 700 GS (and these aren't even new features yes?) what will these people do in game exactly? rip pvp, rip dungeons - nobody would invite these people to anything. They just caused 2 things: * Anyone who doesn't buy this update will eventually quit. * People who wanted to come back with friends won't be able to convince everyone to practically buy this game again, so they lose returning players - i'm falling into this category. So enjoy these few days of glory where each server only grew by about 1k people. Good luck, see you in Throne and Liberty.
Game has really improved super fun and feels like an mmo now Thing I hated most was expertise system and gear progression.. that’s all fixed now .. it’s a solid 8/10
@@cockneygamer OK and if it didnt break the mold of an mmo with a monthly subscription you would have paid hundreds more. We got a free dlc that should have been paid. 30 dollars for content that you may not find exciting is actually fun and worth it for many others. I cant fathom being upset this costs 30 dollars after 2 years of not having to pay anything extra.
@dusoegaming lots of games are like this though. Elite dangerous springs immediately to as an always online service with regular updates and story added. And then boom, they release a substantial expansion and charge for it. I don’t think because a game isn’t charging monthly makes it justified to have so little content with an expansion. That’s why they have cosmetics to justify and make their profit. Fortnite and Counter strike both do that business model and they make bank, allowing those regular updates (counter strike recently being a whole new free upgrade). So I’m not seeing that as justification. It’s ok to enjoy the DLC (which I am for the most part) and still say it doesn’t represent value for money (which I also don’t feel it does). For me this should be priced closer to $20 given the content it represent which is pretty much what the base game cost these days in most sales. But that’s just my opinion… doesn’t make it right and yours is totally valid too.
I agree with you dude... You have classic wow , ESO, and many others that suck money every 30 days and new world has only asked for payment TWICE. once when you bought it and now for a DLC. not bad if you ask me! especially if you enjoy the game. Props to you NW this time, for me anyways.
@@cockneygamer For me I would break it down, 20 dollars for a mount easily worth for me no questions asked lol, 10 bucks for the new zone with new creatures, new mats, changes to dungeons, removal of expertise system, new Unique's, professions going to 250 which I love to grind professions, admittedly probably my favorite thing to do ha, pvp changes to help open world pvp, the removal of crutch gear. For me that's worth the extra 10 dollars lol. I'll say yeah some of that stuff is patch worthy, not necessarily needed in a dlc, regardless, I personally feel that it's not an issue in the least, really just depends what you like to do. Never tried New World and was browsing through videos whether to buy or not and your video helped me decide to skip this one. Will use to money to get something else. Thanks!
So I actually did a different video review of the base game which I rate very highly. I did 400 hours in that before the base game and got it for as low as $20. Personally I’m not sure the DLC is worth it for new players until they hit the level cap, but if you find the base game for $20 I think it’s well worth your time. Appreciate the comment!

I do feel the races are quite boring and they could of make them more engaging with like speed boosts for check points instead of a straight line and press sprint when you have it.
Have to agree with you Josh lad. I’ve done 50 hours in the expansion and weirdly not much has changed from my day 1 impressions and it’s still a 6/10 for me. I think new world is still great, and highly recommended. But the expansion for $30 is basically a patch but with a Mount thrown in. I honestly felt there was more content with the brimstone sands update.

the mounts look SLOW as fuck man, the map is huge and the game often make you run across the map, this seems slightly faster than just running LOL
Fear not, you can “level” them up and get a lion Mount, plus it adds some buffs on tops so it does get much quicker.
wait, so looking at the map... they took away a zone and then locked it behind a paywall?
Ha… when you put it like that… yes, you’re absolutely right. Those on the base game just lost a whole zone.
Excellent review, thanks.!!
You are most welcome good sir
