    The big thing about this is that he speaks Yoruba fluently specifically with Oyo/ibadan accent. Some Yoruba people cannot event speak with that accent. People should not downgrade his achievement. How many people can speak 4 four languages. I really commend him.

      @@yinkafakunle5248 The argument you espouse has got a great deal of validity to it. There is an imbalance in appreciation of cultures. The Asian, European and Middle-Eastern cultures are always highly regarded and elevated relative to African ones. But his complete cognitive and psychological acceptance and adaptation of Yoruba Culture should be commended. Not only does he speak the language fluently he has also studied the religious philosophy of the culture too. That is highly commendable. Most native Europeans think very lowly of Africans and African Cultures.
      By learning the language and culture he is saying to Black Africans. I appreciate what you have and what you are. I am willing to become like you has you are willing to become like me. That is very rare in a White man. Really rare. Mostly even our attempts to speak English is mocked because of our accents. That is changing a lot now some whites are showing maturity in admiring our cultures.

    • @HGee420
      @HGee420 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends which African country you are referring to?
      It’s hard to generalise and say ‘Africans’ when Africa isn’t one country it’s a continent with 54 unique nations with 1000’s of different dialects.
      If you go to most African major cities you will find English speakers everywhere. English is the most widely spoken language in the world due to British colonial rule.
      It’s actually the opposite of what you think.
      Also most economic migrants from Africa come from cities and built up areas like Legos or Ibadan in Nigeria 🇳🇬 were English is a second language.
      The same in Kenya 🇰🇪 cities like Mombasa or Lusaka in Zambia 🇿🇲

    I spent most of my life outside the country only to return home and found out that some people are teaching their children not to speeak Yoruba but English, even some of my family members aren't exception of the adoption of this kind of mentality. It was so tearfully disappointing to realize that some Africans have become very deeply immersed in colonial mentality instead of curing themselves off it.
    Imagine the British looking down on their own language by adopting the Nigerian languages. Even worse, imagine that the British prefer to speak the Nigerian languages instead of English. My question is since when did it become cool or a pride for anyone in any part of the world to not know how to speak thier native languages?

      I know I'm late but exactly! I'm 14 and I've spent my whole life overseas. During that time, I've tried to learn a lot of yoruba but it's been sort of difficult since I didnt live in Nigeria. When I moved back to Nigeria, I was so scared that I would be made fun of for not knowing proper yoruba, but to my surprise hardly anyone knew their language. I only know 2 people my age who can speak they're language and they can hardly speak it well. It's so sad how weve let colonialism change our perception and caused us to lose our roots. We look at English and Britain as of they're some great superior people even though we have one of the most richest cultures there is. It's sad that were slowly losing our background and heritage. Anyways, I'm really learning more and more yoruba by the day and hopefully I will be fluent soon and encourage others to speak it too.
