    You said you were using silicone on one filter and the gasket on the other and would see which worked better. Was there a winner? I'm making a plenum box for one filter, any suggestions on size and does the intake have to be centered on the box. I would like to offset the intake to allow for clearace and keep a straight pipe running in to it. This has really helped.

    Thanks for this. I just completed my DC install. Oneida SDD cyclone, 2hp Shop Fox blower, and a Wynn filter. Followed the plans to DIY the Gamma seal bucket lids, and now I have a threaded filter. Sweet!
    Dick Wynn recommended the approach, but I doubt I'd have risked the uncertainty if I hadn't just watched you do it. Cheers.

    Great video. Making my own version of this and found it very helpful. Unfortunately I didn't have the money in the budget to afford the filters from Wynn so I'm using a semi truck air intake filter. When the funds become available, I'll be picking up the Wynn filters

    Man, that's some company, Bill Pentz and Wynn Environmental. Why, I wonder, did I have to sit through hours of third rate dust collection videos before TH-cam offered yours. Actually, I had to slow down the 1.5 X rate of play to avoid missing anything you had to say. Thank you. Besides refraining from the goofiness of some videos it was a pleasure to see your boy eager and encouraged to participate.

    I really like the solution but have a question: do those long heavy filters feel secure when held up by the Gamma lids with clips ?

  • @craigphillips3154
    @craigphillips3154 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think there is quite a bit missing here. At the 8:00 mark I see that you have a large hole cut in the right side. Later on that side of the plenum is up against the wall. I take it that hole is the intake and somehow connects up to your motor in the shop (on the other side of the wall)? If that's the case, why didn't you put the motor in the same room as the filters? Doesn't the motor significantly contribute to the noise levels in the shop, too? Why put the Manometer in the storage room when the motor needs to be running in order to register a reading?
    Or, is the motor in the other room and the plenum & filters are in the main shop to balance the air pressure? Or am I completely off-base on everything?

      Hey Craig, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I have a large industrial dust collector that is about 10’ tall. Because it is so big and loud it is installed outside. Before I had this filtered return, my dust collection air just exhausted to the outside. I added this plenum to return the conditioned air back to the space. If your interested i did a video on my dust collection install a year or so ago. As for the manometer, you are correct, it only works when the unit is running. Typically once every couple weeks when the CNC is running or when I have the relay bypassed so the cyclone is running continuously I stick my head in the mechanical room to take a peak at the manometer to see if the filters are getting dirty and need to be cleaned.

    Nice idea with the gamma seal on top of the filter, makes it easy to take off and clean. Btw every 3db is a doubling or halving of the perceived sound level.

  • @scotta7164

    I believe you meant to say every 3 db (rather than 10 db) is a doubling of the noise level (or halving if reducing the noise level)

    • @shaweehillsworkshop4226
      @shaweehillsworkshop4226  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      no, I meant 10db. 3db doubles the sound power, which is more like the energy (not sure if that't the best way to describe it) but its basically the intensity. The actual volume you hear is +/- 10db.

    • @W4TRI

    • @shaweehillsworkshop4226
      @shaweehillsworkshop4226  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven’t had that issue. Are you cleaning your filters often enough? Dirty filters cause excess pressure and can blow them off. Did you buy actual gamma seal lids and not knock offs?

    • @jmarotta3
      @jmarotta3 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did buy gama seal lids. My plenum box is attached to the collector using large L brackets. I think vibration is causing the problem. I think I need to stabilize box better. Thanks 😮

    great video - i have a question for you. i just bought 6 of these filters. for the gamma seal lids, i'm debating whether to remove the existing gaskets and use a silicone sealant and clamps, or just attach it with the clamps over the gasket. on the non-gasketed side, i did the "silicone and clamps" approach and i really like how well that sealed and secured. but on the other side, i'm nervous about the weight of those filters and buckets hanging on the four clamps, secured only to the soft plastic of the lid. curious if you have a thought on this before i go through the exercise of removing the glued-on gaskets. thanks for any feedback.

    • @shaweehillsworkshop4226
