For your convenience, the information is also provided below.
    1) You want to start training your puppy the moment you bring them home. You should try to get in 1 - 3 sessions each day. Each session should be between five to fifteen-minutes. When training a new puppy, I like to use mealtime as training time. In the beginning, you want to do continual reinforcement, meaning you reward every correct behavior. If you don’t have time to train, don’t feed your puppy out of a bowl. Instead, put the food into a raw bone or Kong and freeze it. Once it’s frozen, you can give that to your dog in the crate. I will help keep them entertained, but it will also satisfy the puppy's need to chew. Don’t try to increase the value of the food. If you do, that’s a lot like giving your dog a pay raise.
    2) You’re going to want to start potty training right away as well. I would advise staying away from puppy pads unless you want your puppy to learn to go potty in the house.
    3) Confidence building exercises and exposure. confidence-building is simply taking new experiences and associating them with something pleasant, therefore creating a positive association for the dog. Make your puppy believe he’s a super dog.
If something scares them, don’t comfort them while they are scared, but rather act like it’s not a big deal. Dogs will often mimic those they are around most.
    Examples:
    A) Play tug and let your dog win
    B) Have your puppy walk on different surfaces while being rewarded or making it a game.
    C) Create a puppy obstacle course
Exposure: Take your puppy out into town as often as possible.
    4) You want to make the training as fun as possible, creating a fun learning environment that the puppy wants to keep coming back to.
    5) First, you want to start with markers/engagement training | Do 1 minute or so of engagement training before each session. This will help get the puppy into the mindset of learning.
    6) Once your dog is conditioned to the markers you want to start implementing free shaping. This will help you create a pro-active dog.
    7) Start shaping all the behaviors you would like your dog to perform by first using luring.
    8) Next, teach all the behaviors using leash pressure.
    9) Once you can get your puppy to perform all of the behaviors with either luring, leash pressure, or both, then you want to start naming all of the commands.
    10) You want to teach multiple commands in each session. This makes the training more fun for your puppy and as a side effect, they will learn them more quickly.
    11) Once you have a behavior down with the verbal command, then start working the stay command.

He presents training in 7 days. Each of 7 items are commands that he believes a dog should know. They are presented in part ii of the book th-cam.com/users/postUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq . The parts of the guideare divided: part i know your dog part ii the seven commands part iii cures for 7 behavior problems. Each chapter presents a topic, a dog's story, and a "what to do". It was written simply and you can jump from chapter to chapter to review anything as needed.

Training a dog and teaching it to be a perfect companion is a lifelong achievement for both the the trainer and the dog. There are so many things you can learn from the dog, one of the most important being learning to stay disciplined yourself. Everyone should train a dog if they want to be a better version of themselves. That's why I want to have a pet dog.

Totally love this! I trained my dog in a similar manner but rarely used treats and now he’s excellent everywhere we go. He aims to please and made it easier to train him and have him always obey commands even in new/scary/busy situations. Agree with the whole no need for the “alpha” technique but I think it’s important to establish yourself as in charge of a situation so when the dog gets nervous they defer to you and understand it’s okay and so if they potentially are in a dangerous situation they will immediately obey commands to stay safe. Love my pup and he’s the best thing ever, thanks for sharing.

      Hi Nate,
Love watching your videos and how you interact with each dog.
I have a 15 week old American Bulldog puppy that I have had for 8½ weeks. I so far I have taught him sit, stand, shake hands, high fives, up high and down low, army crawl, speak in a whisper and loud barks and much more. My problem is recall 🙄. I have a walking disability and have balance issues. He is fantastic to walk on a leash with a harness but trying to do recall with not being able to do fast turns, walk backwards or run to excite my puppy to make me more exciting than the rest of the world has been tough. Any tips would be amazing and very helpful. Oh and most of the tricks my puppy has learnt, has been done on my bed 🥳👌🏽👍🏽 thank you for the awesome videos 😁

I work in wildlife conservation in Africa. It breaks my heart how poorly dogs are treated in our area (basically people think the only way to get a dog to do anything or be "tough" for personal protection or hunting/poaching is through beating them). I have been training my Belgium Malinois, Honey Bun through your videos and he is doing great! In Feb 2022 I will be using him as a demonstration for sensitisations to teach 1,700 families about conservation and animal welfare and show that you can treat a dog with gentleness and kindness and they can actually be very well disciplined, confident AND an excellent personal protection dog, much more so in fact than if you beat him. Thank you for helping me to get him to the level where he is today!!!

My bf came up with the brilliant idea of the "find it game" we ask our 5mo gsd pup to go in his crate for a piece of chicken. Then while watching we hide pieces of chicken around the house and make him wait for a few seconds before telling him to "okay, find it" and off he zooms. Now any time we get ready to ask him to train anything, he runs straight into his crate excited for his favorite game. It's made meal time, nap time, and leaving the house so much better. Admittedly I do leave through the back door most days so he's not aware that I'm leaving but if I can't, a nice handful of treats seem to keep him happy. He was very anxious 3 weeks ago but now he only whines a small amount only for a minute or two, mostly because he doesn't want to nap. Like a kid fighting sleep.

Lol! I would recommend trying Stella & Chewy freeze-dried coated kibble with answers raw goat milk. With a puppy or a new dog in training, I will often start with a high-quality dry food during the training process. I like to use Stella and Chewy freeze-dried coated kibble. I also usually give the puppy raw goat milk from answers, to help ensure the dog is getting enough quality nutrition. In addition, I train with freeze-dried dog food, but that can be very pricey. amzn.to/2W88zMf Usually, a high-quality kibble will be okay. I transition them to raw when all the main training is completed and then use the freeze dried dog food while training. You can see all of the products I use with my dogs and the dogs I work with here: www.nateschoemer.com/store Thanks again for watching, commenting, and liking! I hope this info helps. Cheers! :)

I am such a bad dog owner, but am using most of the things i'm learning on these videos. My girl was a hoarders dog. 7 months old and the runt, they told me the other animals all bullied her. she was never abused, but she was very rarely handled or played with by humans, they merely fed her the rest of the time i think she was hiding from the other dogs. zero reaction when i wave my hand in her face, she's very happy with the attention now, but it took a few days to get even a little reaction to our attentiion. She wagged her tail first time on the fourth day when i was trying out names, the one she liked that tail just wagged. I think she's brilliant. she is learning so fast. thankyou for your videos, but she will sleep with me and live most of her life on my lap or at my feet or on a leash outside.

It’s so frustrating when people have made comments about crate training being negative. Crates are SO important. We’re getting a new puppy in October. I built a nightstand crate. My older dogs(who no longer use crates) started using it randomly! I build a matching one for my
husband’s side of the bed. Came in handy the other night for our rescue who is fearful of storms. She went in and didn’t even flinch during the all night long storm 😁 it’s been so long since I’ve raised a puppy, so I’m watching your videos regularly. Thanks!

Happy to learn all I need to know to train a puppy in a few minutes. Thanks in advance. I had no idea it was this easy.
So step one is to cut corners with training time. Check.
Step two, find ways to distract your puppy from you by freezing their food to crate them longer. Check.
Step three, stick your fingers in the crate to build a bond with the puppy, check.
Finally, when you throw a young puppy up in the air to land on their weak limbs, you are setting the stage for joint problems. Puppies don’t have developed bones when young. In fact, their bones are not actually bones like we think of bones when they are puppies. Don’t throw your puppy in the air.
Unfortunately, this video only taught me not to socialize my puppy until their parvovirus vaccination series was complete, which is worth watching the video for because most puppy owners don’t know that fact.

  • @n1kobg

Thats very good video. I do think that this Alpha thing has a place in certain and dogs. I visit my grandparents once or twice per month and noticed the dog started to guard his food and become very aggressive when someone aproaches. I dont have the needed time to correct it and he was already an adult. He had no training. I was worried he will bite someone even me and im his best friend. What i did and it was more of an instict, when he tried to bite me, is hold him down by the scruff and pushed him on the ground for a min, until he stopped growling and be aggressive. After that he stopped guarding the food or be aggressive and even was leaving me part of his food to me. This was funny. I just gave it back to him and this is how i "fixed" his aggression. Never had a problem after that and when i ocasionally train him, it got easier.

What a horrendous way of training a dog by showing dominance and instilling fear.
Dogs should be left alone to eat and not tortured by people while doing so. You have no need to be near the dog when he is eating.

If you are like a lot of people that would like to use toys in training,
but you have a dog that doesn’t seem that motivated for toys, you can
use a technique to try and increase your dog’s toy drive. Just keep in
mind that not all dogs enjoy playing with toys-even if you do
      increase their toy drive.
The first technique is to “clean house” if you have toys scattered all
over the place. In this case it’s much like free feeding a dog. Why
would a dog want to work for something they get for free? Your dog
must know that the only way he will be able to play with a toy is if he
works for it. However, once your dog is willing to work for the toys
you can start allowing them to have toys for free during the day.
The next technique to enhance toy drive is to build “frustration”. This
is the process you’ll want to follow:
      • Attach a harness or an agitation collar to your dog. The point
is just to make sure you can restrain the dog. You can also
connect the leash to a pole or any other object to create a
      back-tie.
      • Have a friend begin twirling or teasing with a toy just beyond
reach of the dog. Building more distance can often create
more frustration, so build distance as needed.
      • Keep doing this until the dog becomes “frustrated” and barks.
At this point, give verbal praise and reward the dog with the
toy for barking (plus petting and attention, etc.). But make
sure you or your friend holds on to the toy while the dog
      41
plays with it. A flirt pole or ball-on-a-rope will work great for
      this.
      • If the dog releases the toy from the grip, run back and
continue the teasing until the dog barks again.
      • Now it can become like a game: Try to steal the toy from the
dog (if the dog lets go of it, don't rip it from the dog), and if
successful, return to teasing, and once again reward if the dog
      barks.
      • For demonstrations, see my “Teach Your Dog to Bark On
      Command” video at: www.youtube.com/
      HeVWMcwbf1w&t=21s.
This helps build toy drive because much like humans, dogs want
what they can't have. They also want what others want and have.
This works best when you start during the imprinting stage of a
dog’s life. However, it can work later in the dog’s life as well.

    • @NateSchoemer

I don't believe so, because often when dogs are excited, they bark. So if your dog heard an intruder, your dog would start barking and hopefully scare the intruder away.

I hope this helps, and thanks for supporting the channel. th-cam.com/video/dY8ajyiZgIY/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/ERmJnSwGS4Q/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/cc8hX4lCGiY/w-d-xo.html

My dog assumes that I have a treat in my hand all the time ... so he bites my hand thinking that it has a treat in it .... petting him has become a quite difficult task #question

Lol! Show him that your hand is empty before petting him. That should help fix it. :)

Thank you for sharing your experience. Most of the dog trainers do not tell secrets and ask for money. God gave you gift and you not greedy to share. Obviously you learn a lot beforehand and you have amazing skills to teach others. Thank you.
