    Killer of a band,killer of a vocalist - been a fan of them since 1986 - and its high time Johnette Napolitano is recognized as one of the premier female rock vocalists (something us long time fans have known for decades)

    Everyone. Including myself, always focuses on Madame Napolitano and her voice. Rightfully so. But Mankey is a seriously underrated guitarist.

    Man, now I just want to watch you react to every single Concrete Blonde song. So cool to see someone appreciate them the way they should be appreciated.

    one kick ass band, been listening to them since dream 6 something like 82 or 83. i think johnette's voice it right there with ann wilson and jim's guitar is unique in all of rock music. one bad ass+++ band. i think i've got everything they've ever done. they're even better live but remember a lot of those live videos were shot by fans with just anything back in the late 80's into the 90's and the sound quality suffers sometimes.

    This whole album Free is a gem- Scene of a Perfect Crime and Carry me Away are particular favourites - there is not a bad song on the album.

      Agreed, the band is so tight, well crafted songs, excellence in its execution and an immediate impact and presence, whether loud or quiet. A perfect album, (and I don't say that about just any album). Alas, in a sane world, it would have got the attention and recognition it truely deserved.

    Harry Rushakoff, thier original drummer, just amazing. Had problems with drugs and they fired him.

    Johnette Napolitano is a vocalist that is so unique. She can sing without introduction. Gotta check more of her stuff out.

    Damned good reaction to a Damned good song. Concrete Blonde was underrated and damned Awesome!
    Thanks for a wonderful reaction. Concrete Blonde can rock for sure as God is a Bullet and Heal it up show. If you wanted to try their pop sound, try Roxy or Little Conversations. And thanks for the shout out! Definitely glad I subscribed.

    Now that you've heard 3 uptempo Concrete Blonde tracks, it might be interesting to have a listen to a slower yet still powerful and memorable track (and my personal favorite), "Tomorrow Wendy", which was written by a friend of the band about a woman who committed suicide because she was dying of AIDS (a true story). There is no official video as the song wasn't a single, but it's well-loved by those who've heard it. This is the 3rd time I've typed this message because the first two times my message didn't appear probably because I included a link (and then tried using a broken link with spaces inserted the 2nd time 😛). It's weird that links can be included in the comments on some channels but not on others. I wonder if it is a setting that each TH-cam channel can enable/disable.

      Yeah was Andy Prieboy for his album and performed as a duet with Johnette... Johnette loved the song and asked his permission to record it with concrete also... And on concretes version Andy Prieboy did keyboards...

    Nice to see someone reacting to a Concrete Blonde song that isn’t Joey. Not that that isn’t a great song, but having listened to all of their albums more times than I could possibly count, they have so many great songs.

    Want a Southwestern flavor, checkout CB's "Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man" CB were on tour and staying in a hotel with a reported ghost. Johnette saw him in her room when she was taking a shower after their gig, and then he became a song.
    Here's the song's video: th-cam.com/video/69BozyMnVSg/w-d-xo.html
    And when you've had enough of the world's shit, listen to the song "True"
    If you've ever watched the movie Pump Up the Volume with Christian Slater then you've heard Concrete Blonde covering Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows" and did a phenomenal job. That end part when she starts belting it - goosebumps to this day.

    If you want another fun guitar song try "The Sky Is A Poisonous Garden"; for beautiful guitars with a slower tempo try "Caroline" and their 'big hit' "JOEY"

      I'm in TX myself, yes its very sad and frustrating. This should be a a no-brainer response on what needs to be done. It shouldn't be an issue separated by party. Don't allow assault rifles to the public, limit high capacity mags, enforce background checks! Every time, one party says "it's disrespectful to discuss this while the bodies are still warm." There is never a good time to discuss it in their opinion, which is just the way they want it. Meanwhile this s*&t keeps happening

    • @DarkMatterBurrito
      @DarkMatterBurrito 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Yeedeed The vast majority of shootings involve hand guns. Define "assault rifles" though. Just because it looks like a military weapon doesn't mean that it is.

    • @Yeedeed
      @Yeedeed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DarkMatterBurrito Salvadore Ramos, the kid who carried out the massacre yesterday had a handgun sure, but he also had two AR-15's. If as a country we are going to be hitting a pit-stop with this argument of definition, then let's focus on the high capacity magazines which Ramos, and many other mass shooters used.
      But honestly does our conversation truly matter? Its the same cycle every time. One side pushes for at least SOMETHING to be done in regards to gun control, the other side says things like "well mostly handguns are used in these incidents" (no disrespect), or "if you take away high capacity mags they will still use normal capacity mags", or "the shooter in this incident didn't have a documented mental health issue in the background check", etc. Doing something by definition is doing more than nothing. And if it doesn't work, then we try something else. A country of innovation, but not when it comes to problems like this. And what was my TX state leadership's response to this? 'Hell, none of that regulation gunna work, why try? Oh wait, hot dang I got me an idea! Let's get even more guns up in 'em schools!'
      I just wish we could implement common sense gun regulation, and we get deadlocked in congress/senate and end up not being able to do anything.
      I'm a veteran, and I personally don't understand a good portion of our country's fascination with assault rifles (or any other civilian weapon straddling the line of the definition of an assault rifle), or the allure of owning one. Because 'I can', 'Freedom', or 'cuz 'Murica?' I'd venture to guess the rest of the Western world also doesn't understand our fascination with them either.

    • @DarkMatterBurrito
      @DarkMatterBurrito 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Yeedeed An AR-15 isn't an assault rifle. If you think that it is, then I question you alleged veteran status, because you should know better.
      You also do not apparently know that there are over 20,000 gun laws in the country that are supposed to prevent this. We don't need more laws. We need the current laws to be enforced and taken seriously. The FBI knew abut the Buffalo shooter and DID NOTHING. So take it up with them.

    • @Yeedeed
      @Yeedeed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DarkMatterBurrito Fortunately, I need no one's validation of my veteran status. I'm aware it's a civilian stylized weapon, which I addressed in my first response to you already. I also literally mentioned in the first paragraph of my first reply to you that pussyfooting with the definition is a side-tracker. Your response is exactly what I was referring to, which is why no steps will be taken. And why dying as a kid in a school to gunfire will continue to be a uniquely American problem. Like I said earlier, our conversation doesn't even matter

    The riff is just an E minor pentatonic. James Mankey is a great guitarist, but there are times when he does too much, in my opinion. And I HATE his guitar tone and the way he rests his hand on his tremolo bar. Drives me nuts. She's my number 1, favorite songwriter and singer. But I do not like his playing and set up. The older he gets though, the better his sound and playing get. Their version of Little Wing is bad ass, especially the guitar.
