Paul has been trying to tell us that there was not a bitterness between any of them during this time and after having listened to several of these jamb sessions, I'd have to say I believe him. For me, I hear four friends having a blast playing basic, simple, improv tunes while they are laughing with each other.........you know, kinda like brothers working on a house together. Thanks for posting this one redhectormusic.

There was some as seen in the film. Mostly with George, but the point being it wasn't all gloom. Though John retrospectively said he hated the get back project.

When it came to making records, where people would still be singing their guitar parts fifty years later, John and George (and Paul) are among the best ever. Listening to them searching for parts was never intended for public consumption. What you hear as "lacking somewhat" was just part of the process.

@Robert Stone I agree. I've listened to a lot of Beatles jams since the 70s and I'm surprised that it's always Paul and Ringo who are in a groove and playing well and Paul singing well and John and George struggling to keep up and stay in tune. It's not 'hating' as some people put it. I'm just surprised that those two didn't seem to have better jamming chops considering they were such great composers and singers.

Notable among the improvisations and jams were The Palace Of The King Of The Birds, a McCartney instrumental recorded years later for the unreleased Rupert The Bear album. It featured blues-style guitar and a flowing organ part. He also sang a blues improvisation, You Wear Your Women Out, and did a bit of Primal Therapy-style screaming on My Imagination.

Beatles in 1969 were caught in a dilemma. The chamber pop and psychedelic music that they had invented was now passe. The "new thing" was back-to-basic blues rock, mixed in with heavy rock (think Cream, Fleetwood Mac, Deep Purple, Humble Pie). Even the Stones had gone back to their blues-rock roots. I see the Get Back sessions as a frustrating attempt to re-tool their sound to fit the new "back to basics" trend. But in the end they were never a blues rock band. By Abbey Road they gave that attempt up and focused again on pop songcraft.
