Yes, that's a good observation. He knew when to go static on the lines, and then when to go melodic on the lines. His rhythm on the bass also pushes the song along, like an engine. As you astutely observed, Matt, Mac did a good job on that bass line. That was perfect for the song. Honestly, Jimmy could have farted over the top of that rhythm section, during the solo, and it would have worked.

Time for a new comment-- The year was 1975/76 and I was a young rebel who thought that he knew everything... so i left New York city and headed down to Hallandale Florida for some sun, women, and gambling. Of course i brought my guitar, had a Strat, which i still play today, but along with some other ones. Jimmy was one of my idles. Alright so we all were 'dopes' back then, but who cared? Went to work at Dania Jai Jali punching tickets for the '' Telebet '' girls (30 of them and just me punching tickets, thank you Lord) at the Fronton. Joined a band and did some local clubs and different gigs here and there. I tried to play like Jimmy, but you can't do better than the best...Best time of my life! Women, money, music, mood changers, beaches, had it all... and lost it all gambling... But Jimmy was my inspiration so i finally realized you can't win at horses and other various gambling types of things i did. But my life is based on Jimmy McCulloch. He was about my age, and could play the sand off the beach! Then one day, i heard Jimmy died of a drug over dose,,, i couldn't believe, some (expletive deleted) probably gave him bad dope. So i will end it here, but just wanted you younger people to know that life was much better then than now. So any young rebels out there, you are not as smart as you think,,, i know you will have to find out the hard way like i did,,, but if you can, sell your bike and invest it in an education so you don't end up old and broke like me.

So you are probably my age plus or minus... and a person does learn as 'old mother time' keeps moving (Probably on a Harley), we keep learning new things. But I certainly like the 'good old days' a lot more than the 'now days', since I have too many ailments to even start listing them. I guess we pay a price for having fun when we were young, but I wish it wasn't so expensive. (But then (and not to be prejudice) most of the women I have been with want nice things, and it is not in the dictionary, but nice means expensive!

haven't watched this since I was a young bedroom guitarist, adoring the great PMC and not really paying much attention to how great Jimmy was. This cut really rocks. And more so I enjoy seeing PMC as a "Back up musician" on a cut. Playing some serious bass on this cut. What a killer band that was. I wish in some ways PMC would have chosen the route of sharing the lime light position, instead of just being the boss of a band. He seems to really shine when some one else is the center of attention. Almost as if he can kick back a bit and just have some fun.... Can't say it enough, this really kicks.

This is so sad that Jimmy wrote two great anti-drug songs (Medicine-Jar & Wino-Jonko) and ODed on heroin.at 26 years old . It devastated Paul and Linda 'cause the kid was so talented and loving & both Paul & Linda tried SO hard to set him straight. . Here you can see Paul smiling like a proud papa. One thing I LOVE about Paul. If he is in a band with a name he is always a member of the band and and plays the other members' music with the same gusto he does his own. And you have assholes , (John ass lickers) accusing Paul of being a megalomaniac. Most of us are blown away by what The Beatles did but Paul was AS good a song writer and performer with Wings as he was with the Beatles and is as a solo.act.

Lennon certainly did, and by 1969 George was catching up big time...another Harrison track on Abbey Road instead of the ho-hum 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' would have elevated that album to even bigger status, and no, I am not a McCartney knocker..'You Never give me your Money' and She Came in through the Bathroom Window' and the medley at the end from that album are first rate, and going way way back to 'Things we said Today' and 'For No One' but Paul did let the band's legacy down with a lot of crap through the Beatle years...'Till there was You' (a cover)...why did the other Beatles agree to that? 'When I'm 64' on Sgt Pepper's? I'll take Paul's 'Penny Lane' over that any day. 'Honey Pie'..okay for a Paul solo album...diminished the great 'white album' a little bit there.

Jimmy was my classmate in school at Cumbernauld, Bonnie Scotland & didnt have a farm or sheep! He was a nice quiet kid with hair & gear that made me jealous. I joined army & in 1969 on TOTP was Jimmy with Thunderclap Newman. One hit wonder but a great one. Ok Jimmy and Macca. He composed 2 songs with Wings that Paul incredulously, for him, allowed to be on Wings albums. Not composed with Paul, just stand alone by Jimmy & also in concert at their best period (Paul really enjoys playing this as its a funky little number). Jimmy is the only person as a band member to have ever done this whether The Beatles or John Paul George. And Paul is the most controlling so its surprising he allowed it. Denny Laine never had this tho he co-composed with Paul. Well done Jimmy, you would have been a multi millionaire mate. Still family gets it. His first group, One in a Million, was with his brother & he snuck of school to go to Decca, London to cut a single which sank without trace tho he did meet the Stones. Jealous again. Miss you mate.

Well good blues/rock players are not in short supply. If you're getting real, these guys don't compare to the prowess of jazz players on the guitar. Yes, it's a different style, but rock/blues is much more simplistic, too. Keep it real. Jimmy had a nice feel on guitar. He was not highly innovative. He was a competent rock player. That's all he had to be. If you truly want to get into great guitar players listen to Tal Farlow, Joe Pass, Tommy Emmanuel, etc. Go listen to Django Rinehart (that was even Jimmy's hero.) Good rock guitar players are pretty much a dime a dozen. Practically every town in the U.S. has good rock players.
