@BaalRoi Jamin simply accidentally shuffled the sideboard into the mainboard 😅 outside of that, it was a standard Tron list :)
I don't know if someone has already said it but in game one Thoralf had the win if he played the rack after having Carl discard a card. I know it's not a big deal and we all miss play, heck maybe I'm not seeing it all but as far as I can tell the third Rack would have made the life total difference, carl would have lost during his upkeep. All the love and keep playing magic!
Game 2 Jamin could've copied Thoralf's Rack with the metamorph

Yeah it almost seemed like Thoralf saw that and was ready to scoop them up, but didn’t have to!
I feel like resetting The One Ring was still the correct okay, since Jamin would have lost to his own card before the Rack got Thoralf.

@@blueredlover1060 No. Jamin's Rack would trigger at Thoralf's upkeep. While the Ring could only doom Jamin at his next upkeep.

"Chalice doesn't do much" spoken like a man who hasn't been Chalice'd for 1 on 8-rack before.
The chalice is the tron deck is generally there to be played for 0. It locks out a bunch of your own cards if you play it on 1, so more of a double edged sword.
Gotta remember, it counters both. So when playing Tron if you chalice on 1 you stop a lot of his stuff, but now you also lose access to like 12 cards in your deck. So it'd be fine to do later once you have all the mana you need, but early it could cost you the game.
@@uriarte411 Do y'all realize that the only way 8-Rack can win is by playing 1 Mana Rack effects? There is no way to remove chalice, and no wincon can be played. It is a free win for Tron

@@kylegonewild Kyle, as long as the Tron player doesn’t smoke as much weed as you, they should be able to beat a 10 turn clock from a mutavault… your contributions to society are negligible!

I've had a control player draw in response to their Ring trigger. They drew a Tishana which blanked the ring trigger, it was their only out !
then I untapped and bolted them thrice

Wasn’t there a cityscape leveler in Jamin’s yard to smash in thoralfs face at around 17:00
He threw that game in a few ways
i personally think an updated list of 8-rack with cards like grief, orcish bowmaster and such (personally like Vicious Rumors for HP swing, and discard for 1 mana) would be pretty good and would have a way better chance! But even with that kinda "outdated" list it's pretty good and better then expected
The only downside is that it gets destroyed by side boarding. A lot of these lists have the necessary artifact hate to stop bridge and rack in the side.

@@BludMun i know, it's just a card i personally like. In generally i like to play with funky cards, like my favorite card for commander is Rug of Smothering and i even put it in every deck that aims to reduce live totals, no matter how good it is 🤷♂️

The fact Thoralf almost won against Domain Zoo as well makes me think that this deck could do very well if modernized. That said Jamin did misplay and didn't copy the rack with the metamorph, but still.
I agree although, I think sideboarding heavily favors most other decks. When your main win conditions are artifacts or enchantments, cards like pick your poison or annul can be brutal
@@user-fu7no1xu5b They can be but the point of 8rack is to quickly force your opponent into topdeck mode. Dumb cards like TOR non-withstanding.
Zoo is a fine matchup, tron is very very hard.

I know a few people pointed out the Metamorph copying The Rack, but after that did Jamin also have enough mana to Sylvan Scrying for the 2nd Boseiju, destroy Mutavault, and reset the board with the Oblivion Stone? Turn after unearth the Cityscape Leveler for the win
I have to say that I genuinely love every color. Each has its own unique way if giving the finger: red haste and damage spells. green big creatures and fight spells. white lots of tokens and pacifism. blue counter spells and unsummon. black sacrifice and destruction.

We use to do exclusively top tier decks of various formats but we found that much fewer people watched those. Every other creator already does it on MTGO so we spice it up a little by playing crowd favourite decks :)
As an 8 Rack enjoyer I am both surprised and pleased to see this video today.

Thanks cardmarket for picking on Murktide even after the format warped away from it
SaffronOlive had a really interesting version of the 8rack deck that I would've loved to see you take inspiration from. It was essentially mono-black scam with the rack and shreiking affliction.
Ragavan single handedly won Carl game one, what a balanced card!
You can argue leyline is the winner here. Carl ended at 4 life and fetched with hardly any of his lands.

8rack got me into 60 card and modern after a year of only commander.
Game 1 Toralf didn't lose to Carl's deck, he lost to Ragavan.
I still can't believe Leyline of the Guildpact is a real card.
I did not know that Ensnaring Bridge and Smallpox were in Modern. Those are some classic and painful cards!

Jamin misplays
1. Discarding the Karn instead of The One Ring. upticking Karn on the pithing needle would've killed Thoralf
2. Like everyone says, Metamorph on The Rack would've killed Thoralf
3. Missed lethal on the last turn by unearthing Cityscape Leveler
Loved the video, the smash styled challengers are very good (who made them?).
Side note I love the bridge though I ve never got my hands on it. The rack also reminds me my favorite Legacy deck Pox. Man that was so much fun, shame I couldnt afford the blackwhite version though.
8 Rack is my William Montgomery deck, because I ain’t eva gonna stop playing 8 rack.
Why does the Phyrexian Metamorph trigger the cast effect? does this work with creatures and clones too? i thought only comes into play is getting triggered from clones
The protection is an ETB trigger that only happens if you cast the card from your hand, not a cast trigger.
Because one ring is not a cast effect, it is an ETB effect with the conditional "if you cast it"
Loved the deck, crazy to build it as my first modern deck, but i dont know if i shoud wait for MH3

Other cards to consider, Cling to Dust and Whispers of Emrakul. Cling does give you life and card draw in a pinch. Whispers has a mini Hymn to Tourach and a Hymn if you got delirium.

:D i still remember when i first got a 7th Edition 2 player starter deck and some boosters and ... i liked Black and the idea of discard. When i really started to play YGO i also played discard (like HEAVY discard).... when i started to play Final Fantasy TCG i ...played discard. Now i play Lorcana ...and i play discard and my random Magic decks (paper) are...discard xD

I've had plenty of success with an even more budget 8rack list. Most opponents are helpless when topdecking!
