    First, they didn't wrestle awesomely, Chael. Spencer Lee never had a chance in the match because he couldn't control the ties and let Rei shoot in space. The outcome was never in doubt. Only a folkstyle specialist would think so. Same goes for Brooks. He had no chance in the semi because the Dagestanis are counter wrestlers who wait for deep shots that folkstyle emphasizes. He did do better in the bronze medal match by not getting baited and took shallow double legs that kept the back away from the counter. I'm sure JB talked to him. Dake was a joke in both semi and bronze. Until we make changes, we will continue to punch below our weight. I predict a couple of bronzes in LA.

    I didn't watch the Olympics again. I don't remember being interested in the since Rylon beat Karelin. I'm glad you're still trying to keep it alive. Godspeed. One of the big reasons is they tried to get rid of wrestling a sport that literally defines the Olympic going back to Greece while adding break dancing. It is concerning because if it dies or wrestling dies a key martial art skill suffers. The martial arts matter. It's what soldiers use and policemen and anyone just needing to defend themselves. I think about Chimaev's description of his country and the culture of wrestling. I'd sure hate if we lost that.

    After some reflection I think USA wrestling produced a solid B performance, but it didn't fee like it while I was watching. I think our expectations got a bit skewed knowing that Russia would not be competing in this Olympics. The Russian wrestlers technique and state sponsored "vitamin program" are legendary. Their absence created an enormous opportunity for our athletes. Our skewed expectations made us think USA wrestling was going to have the tournament Japan had and probably already penciled in 4 gold medals for the men's freestyle team alone. If we compare USA Wrestling's performance since 2004 (1 Gold, 3 Silver, 2 bronze 6 Total), 2008 (1 gold, 2 Bronze, 3 total), 2012 (2 gold, 3 bronze, 5 total), 2016 ( 2 gold 1 bronze, 3 total), 2020 Olympics (3 Gold, 2 Silver, 4 bronze 9 Total), and 2024 (2 Gold, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze 7 total) we see it was the second biggest medal haul during that time. With all that being said I wanted to see more. I know they wanted more. Despite it all, I'm proud of the effort they gave and the way they carried themselves in both victory and defeat.

    If we had a wrestling promotion that is something like Polaris Grappling where the athletes get paid at least 3-5 grand a match, we would be much better off in the Olympics. Additionally, participation would increase also.

    Cheawl said this a year or two ago and I fully believe it. The US needs to get off the ass and focus on Greco. If you’re not making the freestyle team suck it up and make the Greco team if we had even one or two Greco medalist every time, we would be ahead of everybody.

    US does not study the sport of Greco and Freestyle, cause if we did we would be doing it starting in Jr all the way to college. We study folk style. You are a karaote guy going to a taekwondo tournament. Its different. And this gap will get worse the longer we have to focus are attention on 3 different styles. Focus on one style seems a lot easier than 3. Boxing is not bare knuckle fighting.

      Because moving 260 plus men around is hard 😂 even with good technique. You just don't get that level of speed, agility, and fluidity that lighter weight classes have. So combine being big, heavy, and a limited areas of attack the matches slow down

    Idk if this is a sacrilegious heretical thing to say but maybe the US should have Freestyle and Greco-Roman be the main styles for high school and colleges. I’m a huge fan of wrestling but I will have to say that certain sports in America have become overly pretentious and wresting is one of them. In high school we only wrested 2-1/2 months out of the year and all of the rich kids/kids with connections would make state because they had the financial ability to practice/compete year round. I remember watching Jordan Burroughs lose in the Olympic qualifiers and the crowd was disrespectful and the opponent was cheering like he won a price and then we went into the games and only the women/aaron brooks wanted to actually win.

    • @2regarded
      @2regarded หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its honestly amazing that America manages to have top wrestlers at all with the culture of the sport the way it is. Its very regional, niche, and some cases cult like.
      The one thing I will say as someone who wrestled in Tennessee, a bad state for it, is that everyone who was wrestling was all in. No distractions. Bradley central had been the top wrestling school in the state for my entire life but eventually got surpassed as most of the kids on the team were poor or struggling. They couldn't afford the summer camps and eventually we just became a step behind technically
      Wrestling in America fails to get the best out of its athletes

    Sidako the reigning two time world champion who whooped on dake and burroghs
    if sedakov was allowed in the competition he would have won the gold and the Japanese dude the silver.
    USA is just all hype, remember when they were say everywhere that burroghs was the greatest wrestler in history before he even won 1 gold medal? What happened in the end? He was just a nother overrated hype train from the USA the guy isn't even top 10 all time great.
