He is a legend! I learned a lot from his method of keeping Caridina shrimp. It's just an example for you guys and as Nico said it's good if you do your own experiments and do it the way it works for you. If this method works for Nico it does not always mean that it will work for you. Let me know if you use any of Nico's methods in your tanks setup.

@@ShrimpMania So do you know anyone who has? Im wondering why you're heaping so much praise on someone you just saw on youtube calling him a legend.

Thank you for Nico’s video summary, I watched them many times. I followed most of his rules in keeping caridina and I have to admit that from all shrimp keepers he inspired me the most.
    Great video!

Amazing setups! Thanks for sharing! Interesting ideas on how shrimp should be kept.
I like the thin layer substrate to prevent build up.
Im curious to how he controls his ph to get it lower for the different types of shrimp.
One thing I noticed was the cloudiness of his tanks. Usually this is a sign of a bacterial bloom. Curious to his production rates and if it really makes a difference in breeding and growth.

Hey Kyle, yes I know there are still some questions unanswered. I only put together everything I found on his channel and I personally didn't spoke with him only asked for his permission to use his videos. I think the bacteria bloom is due to small amount of media in his tanks, I guess he probably controls PH with different amount of soil. Maybe in some tank he has not much soil for bacteria to settle so it floating in the water i'm not sure

Hi, can everyone explain why the PH should drop after 3 days with RO water?? Pure RO water has a neutral pH of 7 and not 6.5. The pH in a neutral water changes only when you put acids or minerals. So when you do nothing, why it should drop down?

the more volume you have, the more better stability you will get. The key remains 10% waterchange is true depending on your animal number population.

    • @ShrimpMania
      @ShrimpMania  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I do some time 30% WC if NO3 is 5-10 to withdraw it. With UGF it's ok PH will not change, maybe by only 0.1 degree.

it is a method. Hamburg mattenfilter (sponges) or the gravel filter. both has its advantages and disadvantages. the 2 most important are your nitrobacter and nitrosomas bacteria.

    • @ShrimpMania

@@ShrimpMania I do like "both" systems :-) I did make a benefit with HMF AND lavarocks + zeolite stones. so water purifies both systems. (I will send you email) ;-)

I normally mix my salts in the container first at least 24 hours prior water change

What substrate keeps pH < 5? Does ammonia even oxidize?

    • @ShrimpMania

I know, the lowest I could get is 5.4, in one video Nico said he has ph in the tanks for shadow shrimp 4.2. idk how it possible. He said in few videos that he uses ADA amazonia, maybe old version.
