    I honestly respect her, from the start the odds were against her. She was asked, as a model, to come and speak about how being pretty is more important than being witty to a room full of students who attend one of the most prestigious educational facilities in the world. She's not dumb and I'm sure she knew she was going have the room against her before she even walked in. The fact she even came to the debate is very admirable.

    That rowdy, slightly angry heckler was really rude doing that and it was not nice, almost rude to throw Amy of like that,regardless if it's hard to take her seriously cos she's model, it's quite admirable she got up and did that as she was nervous and it's not easy for everyone to public speak.

      What was that fat bitch carrying on about, anyway? (I mean I got the first one, that she she doesn't wear makeup - congrats on being lazy and letting yourself go and being proud of it - but what was the rest of it?)

    She's gorgeous and has some really good points. I think people don't want to take really pretty girls seriously because they don't want to believe they got the looks AND intelligence.

  • @anna-gf2uw
    @anna-gf2uw 7 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    I don't get why everyone's so hard on her.
    She's an intelligent woman regardless of what she looks like. She was really nervous but her speech was great. I'm 5 years younger than her, I have perfect grades and would never be able to deliver a speech like her. I love how she spoke about choosing to not go to university - surprisingly, I think that's one of the bravest decisions ever, personally I would never take that risk. She made a point!

    • @djaceman123
      @djaceman123 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not going to uni is a "risk"? What on Earth are you talking about? It's more of a risk GOING to university these days and getting a useless degree, all while missing the chance to actually build some useful real world skills and make something of yourself independently. Uni is a waste of time unless you are studying law or medicine (which is necessary).

    • @anna-gf2uw
      @anna-gf2uw 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And where will you build a future without any sort of degree? I'm not saying it's everything, but it's a useful starting point.

    • @djaceman123
      @djaceman123 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NE NE You find out what opportunities your connections have, you talk to people, you find out what you're good at and hone your skills. You become better by adapting to the world you live in and seeing where you fit into that. Going to university these days is the antithesis of all of that. It's basically: "Here is what you are supposed to know, learn it or you are intellectually worthless. Any other points of view on the subject are invalid, so don't bother trying to think for yourself." And then when you leave your little "safe space", the world chews you up and spits you out, because you weren't prepped for the difficulties that come with society and expectations.
      Students are brainwashed into thinking unversity is a necessity, because it's a method of control. The government wants to gather large groups of people together and push certain ideologies and get them to conform. That's why certain aspects of the left push government-sponsored further education.
      University is no longer a true liberal utopia of free-flowing ideas and progress. It's a marxist dystopia producing the next generation of welfare recipients and regressive thugs. The last thing society needs to see right now is more sociology majors leaving university and blaming white men for their failure to make the right choices and develop practical skills.

    • @anna-gf2uw
      @anna-gf2uw 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've wanted to be a doctor since I was 7 years old. I need a degree for that, a degree that will form my future. I'm not being "brainwashed" by anyone into doing anything. I'm 17 and already being guided to "think for myself" by my high school.

    • @djaceman123
      @djaceman123 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NE NE You still have lots to learn, trust me. You will see things completely differently when you get older.....
      And if you want to be a doctor, you don't have any choice but to go to uni anyway, so obviously that's completely different. Medicine is based on fact, so ideology and intellectual debate doesn't come into it. You need to know exactly what you are doing in that area when you get hired so you don't ruin someone's life. Medicine and law are a rare breed of degree that you actually need to get a job in that area. Most you don't. Because in most professions you are not responsible for altering the course of someone's life.

    jeez she has a tough audience! they just wrote her off from the start, I get what she's saying completely it's just harder for her to do a speech in front of all these academics that are well used to it, I think she did amazing and spoke the truth that too many won't admit.looks do matter to some degree and we all know it.

  • @dlouise64

    It takes a lot of courage to get up there and speak in front of intellectuals, which many (introverted individuals) struggle to do. As an introverted intellectual individual myself, I appreciate her opinion.

    I thought Amy did a good job of presenting herself with dignity and compassion towards others. I don't mean that she looks down on those that are "less attractive." She revealed things that left her vulnerable and could see the humanity in things. Her position in this situation must have been a difficult one.

    good point here, confidence is confidence, doesnt matter what size shoes you have or what personality you have, there a certain walk and talk that will boost your confidence, and you will feel and look good in such a different way than before, intelligence is attractive as well as courageous :) im definitely a believer of confidence

    I rather have people like and respect me for my wit rather than for my face. Beauty is so superficial and only skin deep. Its like receiving a gift beautifully wrapped up but with really useless present inside. Besides, think of all the inventions and discoveries made throughout the history, they are the product of great minds, not beauty.

    I think she did very well. She was better than Ollie Locke & the lady in red. The only cringe moment for me was the misuse of 'commemorate'. She is obviously very intelligent & handled the heckler with aplomb. All in all, she was engaging and presented a good argument.
    Nevertheless, the cringe moment was VERY cringey. Although intelligent, she is clearly not well-educated, & would have benefitted greatly from a few more years of full-time education. Also, a good education would have benefitted her for the rest of her life, whereas relying on her beauty will be viable for maybe a decade.

    the fact that people instantaneously judge her by her looks or may not take her seriously or simply adhere to the stereotype that such gorgeous, despite her posing coherent arguments (while getting thrown off a few times), is proof enough how crucial looks are, simply because people won't take her seriously

    • @98266paul

      I agree to a certain extent but she is on the privileged side of being judged by her looks. Imagine a hideous fat ugly person trying to deliver the same speech. The answer clearly is BOTH - but if push comes to shove witty wins. At the end of the day would you rather spend a day with Kelly Brook or Dawn French (who is beautiful too by the way!) - you would pick Dawn who actually HAS personality!! You can be stunning but if you have no personality no one is going to want to spend time with you / give you a job etc.

    The joke is definitely not on you. Whatever someones opinion or understanding of someone else's world view, you should have been listened to without interruption, and questions and comments left until the end. What's the point of inviting someone to speak if you are going to heckle them. The joke is almost certainly on rude arrogant oxford students who lack the skills and decorum to behave appropriately in social settings. One can only assume it is owing to an improper upbringing. Props to you for standing up and speaking your experience. No one has the monopoly on the truth. Generous listening requires courage and empathy. Not sure if they include that on the Oxford syllabus, would need to check.
