Great video! As a veterinary emergency and critical care technician I totally geek out over seeing pet owners get great advice on prepping for emergencies!!! I'd also add duct tape, baby diapers, and epson salts to your kit :) all can be found in the dollar store as well. Maybe even some saline solution for rinsing wounds instead of alcohol which really burns! Betadine solution and vasaline should also be in any prepared barn! One thing probably not found at the dollar store but defiantly needed in a kit would be a great pair of hair clippers :) Keep up the great videos!!!
Wow! Thank you so much! I too geek out when it comes to all things first aid! I don't think you could ever have enough first aid stuff 😂😅😆 Thank you for your recommendations, I did see Epsom salts when I was there, and I didn't even think about that! And I think they do have saline solution, I just didn't look for it but that is a great idea. Thank you so much for watching my video 😊😊😊😊
I second the duct tape suggestion! It’s also great for a temporary fix for covering up those sharp edges in stalls, the trailer, or even panels and fencing that horses cut themselves on. I like the white gorilla tape as it’s tough and you can write on it with a sharpie if you need a quick label.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!! I was about to pay like 300 something or more dollers for JUST supplies and I am GLAD I came here because if I didn't I would be upset..THANK YOU!!
Love this. I love the Dollar Tree. I buy more horse supplies there than human supplies. The maxi pads are great to use to pack/wrap a hoof also. My vet suggested them.
I also buy a pack of the make up remover pads. They are great to use with the alcohol when giving injections- antibiotics or vaccines. Also the $1 store has zip top bags in various sizes. You can put a bunch of your 4x4 pads in the sandwich size- this way they stay clean until use. Also epsome salt for making a quick saline solution to flush wound or soak a hoof to draw out an abscess. You forgot plain old band aids. There's always a need for band aids. Lol
Love this and have used a lot of your suggestions in my trailer kit. Love those head lamps. I also keep a powerful spotlight led flashlight to find the horses in the pasture at night and a standing work light in the tack room for really nasty wounds that need stitches from the vet. You can never have enough light when treating wounds! My vet recommended large abdominal pads (8”x10”) which work great for lower leg wounds. They’re large enough not to slip around as a bandage base , plus padded, sterile, absorbent, and don’t stick to wounds. Way cheaper than tefla pads! I found them pretty cheaply on Amazon. A leg quilt and a standing wrap ends up being way more economical than sheet cotton and vet wraps. I keep a set in my trailer. Another vet recommended keeping disposable diapers on hand for large draining wounds, like pigeon fever or hoof abscesses. I could never get then to stay in place, but they worked for her.
I love your channel! Thank you for being here for us budget equestrians 😊 I wrote down all the things in both of your first aid kits and will be putting one together for my horse and get the stuff out of my groom bag. Also, love the Dollar Store-I will be getting stuff this weekend.
Love all your videos!!! This will definitely come in handy for my horse BlueMac!! You should make a DIY portable stall/or a horse stall???Please!! Love your horses!!!
Yay another vidio loved the one you did a few years ago (i think it was a few years ago?) shame im not in the us but we have poundland and qd where i got a lot of my horse stuff there and a few other cheapish shops ps i use cotton sheets like cotton balls but in a sheet for the 4 by 4s it soooo much cheaper and works the same
Great idea but in reality a first aid kit for your horse could not be limited to products from the dollar store. While these items may be useful they really wouldn’t do much to help heal a decent gash. You need iodin spray, proper adhesive elastaplast bandages and flexiwrap that will stay on a horse’s leg while it runs, anti bacterial cream, poultice etc. Let’s just be real for a second: if you can’t afford basic equine specific first aid products to care for your horse then you can’t afford a horse.
If you can buy the same thing for $1 vs $6 like the Arctic Ice vs Mineral ice which would you buy? The extra $5 can go towards the equine specifics like you say- vet wrap, hoof boots, etc. BTW- Lisa does mention that there are other things in the kit that are more specific for horses, but in reality- people, horses, dogs and barn cats all get hurt and most medical supplies treat Wounds- no matter what theyre on.

Which would you prefer: plug-in clippers or chargeable clippers? I got into horses a few months ago and help out at my grandpa’s barn a lot.

Very cool. Smart ideas. Definitely going to do this
I love all your first aid videos i would love to see what you would put together for a horse trailer first aid compared to your barn first aid
That is a great idea Caroline! 😊😊😊
awesome! Some great ideas on what else to add to my kit

thanks for great video it was very informative and i will look out for these items at our pound shops :) x
Wish there was a Dollar Store in Australia. Looks like a good haul. I made my own Saline but I would love to know what the use of Epsom salts is for.
So I know it's a year later but we use Epsom salts for soaking hooves to draw out an abscess.
Needed this!
Cool Video!
Love the pad and clipboard idea!! I work in a lab so documentation is everything!!
Right?!?!?! If you don't have it written down, it can be hard to remember, so I like to write EVERYTHING down 😂😆😅
