As an avid 3D VTuber (rebranded from my main channel to this), I feel heard. I do dabble in 2D (when I don't want to VRChat or Warudo), but I get this completely. Thank you for sharing perspectives from all sides of this industry. I'll always come back to watch your content when I need a pick-me-up or advice for content creation as a VTuber. Thank you.
This is great! Thanks for posting this! I was that person who was like "why do I need lore I just wanna be me" and you explained it really well haha, also maybe I wanna be a version of me that's better to share with strangers online. A better me that doesn't have the RL baggage and can just relax? Im thinking about this more!
Lore is a waste of time. i can count on o finger how many times lore has a use besides the debuted having the lore and then.......yeah that's all >.> literally no use and honestly people can still be vtubers without having lore
I don’t usually comment but I wanted to say thank you for this video! Not only is it really well made and a great resource for all vtuber related content creators, you also offer really in depth advice relating to the culture and space of vtubing and the internet as a whole! I love hearing people talk about things that they know a lot about, and this one was a real treat that made my day :) thank you Mari
Thank you for mentioning the distinguishing factors between a 'Classic Vt' and a 'Mordern Vt'! I'm wanting my model to be more of an extentended version of myself that's cooler and cuter. It'll be much easier for me to livestream with a vtuber model instead of just a camera in my opinion.
Do definitely "go on a tangent" about fanfiction OCs and their link to VTubers! I'm an upcoming one myself and it just so happens I used to write fanfiction, and I'd love to hear about what you have to say regarding that!
You really put a lot of heart and soul into this video/stream. I feel very inspired by your knowledge, experience, insight, and your storytelling. Your foundation in making your tutorial videos is very smart because Vtubing is a growing industry, and I will probably watch every single one of your tutorial videos because I want to start Vtubing too, and there are countless like me who are also in the creative process and will flock to your videos for direction, advice, and technical expertise. I'm still thinking about how you want to rebrand yourself. That is a big challenging decision, and I hope you don't feel too much urgency to rebrand so that you can really take your time and think it over carefully. You create Amazing content, and I feel enriched by watching your videos. Thank you for making this for us, and As an aspiring Vtuber, I see you as a great example to look up to and follow, and you should always be proud of your work.
Thank you Mari! Your info was so helpful to helping me understand vtubers as I'm putting a channel together. Looking forward to seeing more of your content
So much that comes to my mind that I would like to say. I'm gonna keep it short for now. Thanks a lot for this awesome video! Been watching it over many hours portion wise 😂 I definitely relate to you in a good amount and I'm streaming now already since some months without face cam or vtube model but I stumbled upon some vtubers very recently and would absolutely LOVE to become soon a part of the vtuber community too! I got to set up a lot of stuff still as I try figuring out everything myself so your videos are definitely of high interest for me and will help me to get into this. 😊 I was thinking for a long time how to put myself out there without actual real appearance showing and vtube sounds just like the thing for me! So I'm really excited to get this rolling! 😃
mari yume is so good! helped me with so many things over the years!!! I have been feeling SO discouraged lately, and this video really really helped me. 💕 thank you so much for what you do!!!💓
I am still in process of catching up on the VOD, but a lot of it has been really enlightening. I love your take on lore. I was a bit concerned, that me not having a "Vtuber style lore" with kayfabe and everything was bad, but now I can put my worries to rest, I have plenty of lore, lore I have built up with my community :)
I've decided to make these long video's my background video's while working on editing my clips. Love just nodding and agreeing with the info you put out there
I'd like to hear your grand unified theory on friendship ngl. i can't help but see myself in your which honestly good for you, i am lazy with my content and i am a bit all over the place, but i do feel i am a vtuber in the modern sense for sure, i want to be professional but at the same time i see people in similar niches like taiga get axed off the platform, and it makes me reconsider being a vtuber as primary source of income. i'm not sure i'm capable of doing vtubing seriously even though i do my best to take it seriously lol. i know i'm a bit of an edge lord and i have to remind my chat every time to not say terrible things when i raid other channels
Thanks for the help first time watching a full stream vod after watch this and a 4 and half hour video essay about how toxic TH-cam has become 1:59:53 - 2:01:35 is the most important advice you have given
Never thought I'd be watching a neuro-divergent stoic cat-girl. Thanks for the video, just a bunch of goodness contained within, especially the philosophical bits, and the analytical social commentary
I've been making content for a little over a year now, but I decided to watch 'cause I think it's good to refresh yourself on the basics from time to time. I also understand how much time and effort it took to prepare this stream. I think one of best things I've learned to do is "kill my darlings". Do I really really like something I'm doing, but my audience doesn't? GONE! Did I try something new that I'm passionate about, and it didn't work out? GONE! Being able to look and see what the viewer wants and make decisions solely on the data is hard to do. Especially when you need to do it quickly in order to improve. Something I would like to add to this discussion is how important learning how to use every piece of software and equipment you plan to utilize actually is. I found that by learning to video edit at an intermediate level, I am able to get content out faster and more efficiently than others who compete in my space (and are much larger than me). The best thing you can do is learn how to improve the quality of the content for the audience to a standard where you're able to begin to compete with other more professional and established channels. I've been finding some success with this, but I still consider myself to be a "beginner" why? 'Cause this is just the beginning. 💪🏽
Hey Mari! It was great to see one of your vods again 😁 On the part about friendships and transactional friendships… I know that recurrent viewers, or even friends, are the most likely, but how do you go about choosing mods in regards for streams or discord? Usually the people available are the ones you look at first, but how can you spot or vet who is most ‘competent' for those roles? Glad To have you back 😁
hi, sorry if this sound transactional, I would like to read that book about the layer of friendship for adhd please, what is the specific title and authur (also, thank you, this is a immensly helpful video! Thank you so much!)
She stated in the same sentence that it was by How To Adhd. I'm subscribed to that TH-cam channel, but for those that aren't, if you Google "How to ADHD book" it comes up with the creator's name Jessica McCabe and the Google cluster has a tab for her book "How to ADHD: An Insider's Guide to Working with Your Brain (Not Against It)" I also recommend subscribing to her youtube channel as she has a lot of great informational and advice videos for how to live as an adult with ADHD.
I think the bad 'S' sound she was describing is called plosives... Or something similar, plosives might be when its a 'P' sound, but same idea... Some mic setups, doing a certain sound will cause the mic to do a popping noise... I think you can mitigate this with a pop filter or maybe a good foam thing over the mic, but also I think with the 'S' sound it's particularly difficult to fix... I was having that issue with the HyperX Solocast and I just needed to switch to a more high quality mic, the Shure MV7... Could not find a technical solution to fixing the HyperX Solocast... The Shure MV7 is solid, only downsides are: 1. It's notoriously quiet. Adding gain is a simple enough solution though. 2. The little usb port in the back seems easy to damage if not careful. Giving the cable a good bit of slack on the boom arm or whatever though and just being cautious solves that. 3. It IS expensive, though I got it on sale. Would recommend if you can afford, but also probably could get fairly close to it if you found a really good 50 dollar or so mic and put in a ton of effort on the technical side of things to perfect your settings. Having a filter could help, having a separate software maybe could also help. Shure's mics do also come with software generally I think, but yeah again, that's the expensive mics. The best mics out there are the Shure SM7B mics, I saw that because they've been basically unbeatable mics for like literally decades if I'm not mistaken... Old tech that just works really well... MV7 is a cheaper alternative to that, both are pretty much like, professional level mics IMO... But again, if you had like a really good Blue Yeti and you REALLY were good with audio settings then I legit think you could have them be roughly equal to most people's ears... For boom arms I will also say the boom arm that I think is called the Rode PSA1+ (note the plus, tho the other one is good too) is VERY solid... It is big, it moves SUPER silently, and you can adjust it extremely easily to have your mic wherever you want pretty much and the way it grips your desk won't break easily or damage your desk easily... But again, its also an expensive boom arm... Rode also put their branding all over it, though if it really bothers you there are ways to cover/remove that... So rn I got that mic and boom arm and let me tell you it feels so much better than the HyperX Solocast with a 20 dollar boom arm... But it is very expensive... I hope it all lasts a long time lmao...
i got no desire to be a content creator, just watched this out of curiosity i use rtx voice, its good for gettin rid of background noises. works fine with my 1080 its funny when digital art was introduced, i heard all the arguments that people are now using for ai everything/everyone is pretty much a copy of a copy of a copy, even your voice example i heard people who naturally speak like that. best way to deal with emotions on social media, turn your emotions off. problem solved numbers do matter, the numbers in your bank account
Thank's for all these helpful pointers and food for thought! What would you think of what might be like, the inverse of networking, as described as business first, friendship as an optional but not guaranteed bonus: seeking friendship, and networking is a possible bonus, but definitely not expected?
One thing though, can you maybe expand on the lore more next or in its own video please😮 And when you talked about the “me being best friends with John censor but now how is exposed for being evil and y’all stop talking to each other and John cDNA gets canceled ” example and the “remember when Mari and John cena callabed with each other” examples of people in your lore, Witch of those cenarios are good and bad lore?
I have watched your presentation and felt that content creation needs not to be costly, it's actually depending on the creator. Mine don't have any cost incurred, since I don't play games, I used pictures and videos for my presentation, hmhmhm...
I helped my sister get all her assets ready before hand and someone got mad saying because she ready for the future it makes her look like a fake account
Question: I have seen a vtuber who just appeared to be playing games, trailers about her playing games, totally no introduction at all for her first stream! So she's a modern VT, right? Hmhmhm...
AI art is fine, not too relevant rlly to vtubing generally speaking... People ain't rlly AI generating a vtube model to use... And I feel like its on the other vtubers if they get mad about it because it makes them feel threatened in their job security such that they wanna lash out at other ppl just for utilizing the technology... And I will say often getting an artist is superior to AI art in various different ways, I have an art friend, but I don't see the issue here... Yeah some ppl might get mad about it, but its just part of expressing yourself through what you use AI to generate... And if ppl take issue with your expression which they might for many reasons, case in point male vtubers with feminine avatars, well those triggered people can just be ignored and ought to be...
