      Zoran Maslic hey zoran. Just curious was Chad his stage/ traveling punk name and his name was Brian?

    • @ZoranMaslic
      @ZoranMaslic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Brian was his fake name, Chad Fontaine is his real name. He used name Brian to avoid some warrant that was issued, I think he didn't appear in court or something, it was something small, but if cops would find him he would possibly have to go to jail for a week or so. Lots of these guys get into that kind of situation by getting tickets and not paying them and then at some point they might get arrested... or because of tickets they get court notice and they don't go and the small thing grows from there, but I repeat it was never something bad he did so the law was after him.

    FAREWELL, CHAD FONTAINE!

    May Your Banjo Be With You!
    Chad Fontaine (1986-2016) was a wonderful songwriter with a rich, deep, masculine voice and with a style of singing that was natural, never forced. It sounded so normal while it was entirely unique. His lyrics talked about small life events, but contained windows through which you could see complex emotional landscapes and social context. Chad never faked in his art, every word and every sound he made had its coverage in his own pain and fun of living,.
    He never wanted to be this or that, just to be Chad. And he was great in being Chad. At the moment, his music belongs to folk punk genre, but at the same time it spills out of that container, there is something classic in it. It is plugged into a lasting tradition of North-American traveling troubadours who never had a mortgage but they own a piece of heaven.

    Thank you for everything, Chad! I hope there is a train where you are now and that you are on it with your dog Budrick and some other pals. You are picking your banjo and you are not sure if you should laugh or cry while looking at our sorrow.

    Condolences to your family and friends.

    Condolences to your fans from United States, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, Mexico, Sweden, Australia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Finland, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Estonia, Russia, Denmark, France, Belgium, Poland, New Zealand, Brazil, Norway, Israel, Croatia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Italy, Romania, Greece, Venezuela, Ireland, Aland Islands, Chile, Hungary, Serbia, Philippines, South Africa, Slovakia, Paraguay, Colombia, Latvia, Turkey, Argentina, Singapore, Ukraine, Morocco, Japan, South Korea, Micronesia, Belarus, Peru, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Nepal, Indonesia, Moldova, Kazakhstan…
    THANK YOU, BUDDY!

    THE ROAD GOES FOREVER!

    He seems like such a genuine, nice human being. I have a lot in common with his life experiences, and living like this is beyond tough. I have so much respect and solidarity for him keeping on keeping on. It's so incredibly easy to fall into that I Don't Care About Anything life and stay there until you die. it's so inspiring to see him striving to get back on the other side.
    I'm so angry at the way our capitalist and anti-addiction society forces people like Brian and myself, and our respective circle of friends, to exist in squalor. There are so many vacant spaces in my city (Windsor, Ontario - a few hours south of Toronto) that have been for rent or sales for years, just wasting away empty. I wish someone had the resources to open one up as an animal-friendly long term shelter and workspace. When you have a place to stay, and a place to work on creative ventures, quality of life skyrockets and self esteem and self worth is boosted so much. It's so important as a recovering addict to have a self of autonomy and independence. Nobody wants to feel like or be seen as a burden. Windsor did have a small place like this for resident artists to live and work in temporarily, complete with a gallery space, called Civic Space, that was paid for through an arts grant. But there was a lot of competition for the, i think, single spot that was rarely open for grabs. The also seemed to choose out of town artists, rather than local ones. My dream in life is to make an accessible space for disenfranchised artists to work and live peacefully.
    As a fellow artist and musician on welfare, i can vouch for how he was describing making a living from his art - when you have no money, it's extremely difficult on a moral level to ask a fair wage for your art. It's like you feel bad for doing so, so you tend to practically give away your art. My American friend with a similar background as Brian and i once said that he has no respect for people who make art and charge an exorbitant amount of money for their work, especially if it's the type of art that doesn't take much effort at all, and /especially/ if he knows they're living a cushy lifestyle already. He said he'd much rather buy art from someone who just wants money for a sandwich. I laughed when Brian said that's basically what he did with his portrait earnings. It's so true. When you live without a home and a job and with an addiction, you learn how to live on the bare minimum and you make it work. I have a cat, and I've gotten flack for having her while i was living in poverty, but she has never gone without. You can tell Brian loves his dog. Despite people looking down on me for being a drug user, college dropout living on welfare, I wouldn't trade my experiences living like this (albeit, I've never been on the actual streets) for anything. I have track marks and shitty stick and poke tattoos and no money or property to my name, but this is all part of my history and they're something I have to live with. They've given me a profound sense of humility, empathy, and valuable life skills that you can't get any other way. We may seem like wasted people, but we are strong and tenacious and good people.
    Anyway, Brian, if you ever see this and are ever in southern Ontario, Windsor welcomes you and your dog, even if it's shithole of a city too :) Come play music and make art with my friends and I!
