    Details,
    In 1998, Constantin Film set out to adapt the greatest horror video game franchise of all time, hiring legendary film director George A. Romero. Now, Key 13 Films, in association with Point Five Films and director Brandon Salisbury set out to uncover the mystery behind why Romero’s vision was never produced.
    George A. Romero’s Resident Evil is a stylized documentary, utilizing archived footage, unearthed documents, and newly filmed interviews with a wide variety of personalities. The documentary combines elements from Capcom’s hit video game series and the raw, visceral style of George A. Romero to full immerse the audience in a cinematic horror aesthetic.
    Now, audiences everywhere will experience the “darkest day of horror the world will never know”, as they uncover the unrequited vision of… George A. Romero’s Resident Evil

      @@StefanTejo We will unfortunately never know how well Romero's film would have done. A lot of the first film's success was due to the brand name. And it seemed to have hit at the right time. Even Universal screwed George over when they released "Land of the Dead" between Batman Begins and War of the Worlds in 2005, which greatly hurt its potential... it should have never been a summer movie.

He took some liberties but he still evoked the games along with Romero, Carpenter, and Stephen King which RE was influenced by too. Roberts had a lot in his film while he also had to contend with so many issues from on set along with executives. Add in angry fans he had a tough uphill battle that worked for me.

    If I were to redo the resident evil movies, I would have the main characters, but I would switch their roles around. I would have Jill be the rookie, Leon/claire be STARS, and Chris be the returning brother. Chris and Claire would be siblings, but they wouldn’t know. The first film, I’d have Chris be related to Spencer,coming to raccoon city to collect his will. His car gets broken down and is helped by Jill the new rookie. She drives him to the mansion and on the way, they get attacked by zombies. They take shelter in the mansion and the rest is pretty self explanatory. 2nd film will focus on Leon and Claire investigating umbrella because of an incident from the orphanage a few weeks ago, talking to Birkins about his involvement. New evidence leads Claire to the Spencer mansion while Leon stays in the city and keeps an eye on birkins. I would introduce Ada Wong as UBCS and Carlos as a STAR member. Both Ada and Carlos are paid by an unknown source to sabotage Claire and Leon’s investigation. This film will be more of a noire theme, Cop procedural, but as it gets closer to the end of the film, the RE horror will start to show. 3rd film will be about the downfall of Racoon city, our heroes trying to escape the city but also uncovering the real intentions of Umbrella. Wesker would be introduced as a special force sent to Racoon city with Nicholai, Rebecca, and Hunk to retrieve Birkins. Claire, chris, Jill make it back to the city. Claire tries to Link up with Leon, but he is unresponsive. Soon reports of zombies on the street become known and an outbreak begins. That’s all I got for now. Some plot points need to be revised, but that’s how I would revive the series. Racoon city is a build up, it doesn’t happen in 1 film.

    28:30 for all those out there who still don't understand Romero - maybe you got into watching stories about zombies through TWD or something and you just look at his films as too old fashioned to take seriously - this is a guy who created an entire cultural phenomenon through the power of his imagination and by treating others with respect. Few people in the world inspired others like Romero did.

    • @mosj9876

      Correct. Many hollywood peeps had inspiration from Romero. Tarantino, Snyder, Brooks, Kirkman, Peg, Wright, to the point of making some of the other cult classics like Return Of The Living Dead.

    The release of this documentary has been dragged out for so long. I genuinly believe we will see it released during spooky season as it stands. Much like Silent Hill 2 remake was held back to fall 2024, it makes sense to do the same with this documentary. I will be waiting for it regardless.

    • @BranSalisbury

      Apologies. A lot of that has to do with waiting for the distributors. Though I probably didn't help things. We released a teaser back in March 2023 when we were still filming for the purposes of getting interest from distributors to buy it. It worked. The trailer in October was to celebrate 25 years since Romero wrote the script. At that time, we had just completed the first cut of the film. We went through legal from December to April. Since April 2024, the film has been done and turned over, so now it's on distributors to release it.

    I admire the director's passion for Romero. I too am a fan of Romero. I grew up on Dawn and Day, but after watching Land of the Dead and Survival of the Dead. I'm not so sure his RE movies would have done well either. At the time, I was disappointed to see he was taken off the project. It felt like a perfect match. I looked into his script and read that he did make some changes, but at least his script would have been more like the games. I'm just not sold anymore that his version would have been good after watching Land and Survival. Those movies, to put it mildly, are not good. Surprisingly, I thought Diary was better than both of those movies with a smaller budget.
    My issue with Romero is that he got too attached to his zombies. I think he even mentioned that he felt like they were his kids. If you watch Land, it's almost like he wants us to sympathize with the zombies which is ridiculous. Big Daddy is like the worst zombie ever. I kind of think the actor who played Bub should have gotten an awards after watching that performance. I'm with Captain Rhodes from Day of the Dead. He was a hard ass, but the zombies are not your friends or pets. They deserve nothing more than to be put down. Maybe he would have did a different version of RE zombies compared to his, but I'm inclined to think his best days were likely behind him.

    • @BranSalisbury
      @BranSalisbury หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Land of the Dead was ripped apart from his earlier ideas. George had issues with Land because the studio controlled so much. He didn't even have control of the casting process. After Land being a studio film, Romero went back to making independent films, for better or worse. His business partner, Peter Grunwald even said that he had options to do another studio film but refused. I always respected him for going out the way he started: by being independent.

    Romero is a legend and should be respected as such. If you have actually read the script, THAT movie was not going to be good. It took too many liberties with too much.
    The SD Perry novels are sitting right there.

    • @BranSalisbury
      @BranSalisbury หลายเดือนก่อน

      The novels make a poor structure for film. Half the action are paragraphs summarizing things that happened leading up to the current scene being described. Works great for a novel, but the way the books are written it would cause the film to look more like loose disconnected scenes, kind of like how WTRC feels.
      On that note, Romero's script would have been a great film. You read a first draft. Not even close to a final version. I think it would end up like the original Silent Hill film. Fans would complain about all the changes. Meanwhile... the rest of the horror movie community would hail it as a great horror film and it'd become a cult classic. That's my feelings on it.

    I just wish Capcom will allow this man who just like the late, George A. Romero is so compassionate and has so much unprecedented Love and appreciation for what and how the RESIDENT EVIL franchise is for, To finally be able to give all of us fans the Resident Evil we've always wanted and we definitely deserve. Please let Brandon Salisbury make a live action RESIDENT EVIL trilogy movie adaptation! (RE1-3) Let him continue George's legacy and translate it into film. Please Capcom, Thanks ROE for conducting this interview.

    For me, one of the most compelling aspects of resident evil has always been that the absolute amorality of Umbrella is fundamentally believable. Once you've accepted the fantastical elements, zombie causing viruses, monsters, etc. a corporation effectively buying and controlling a city, corrupting the local government and officials, and having absolute disregard for the citizens, workforce, etc. just isn't a stretch. It's the mundane evil of the people and organisations in resident evil that are the real horror.
