I don't think it is fair to say that he hated Wei Wuxian. Of course, he tortured people in search for Wei Ying's soul however that can be his grief taking over him and I believe it was his way to make himself forgive letting his parents die. I think he wanted Wei Ying to come back to him the entire time: be his brother, lead with him and even cause mischief whenever he pleased. Though i think he valued his duty and leadership over reuniting WITH Wei Ying. He feared for his clans name to be dragged through the mud again and so it caused such misery. At the end of the book, and drama, you see how much he wishes for those days to be back but had to accept it at the end.

Specially the reason why he lose his golden core is because he risk his own life to save Wei Wuxian. Then ironically Wei Wuxian gave up his golden core for Jiang Chen to start a new life again. They both love each other but misunderstanding ruined them.

We all have different morals and values that weigh differently to us than to others so what we do can also be perceived differently by others. To me, Jiang Cheng loves Wei Wuxian dearly [as a brother] but because of his position, his morals, and his values he cannot nonchalantly do as he please hence he puts himself in a position where he cannot reveal his true feelings.

His pain and grievances still hold him back. However, the author of the novel did said that Jiang Cheng is one of the top people who really cared for him afterall.

JiangCheng was the character, like many ordinary hardworking us, knowing he was not the above all but unwilling to show his weaknesses and tried with diligence to do whatever he could to perform his best to exceed others expectations. But he was only a child when he had to take over responsibilities as clan leader, he was bullied by those elders to make decisions when he had no strong aide to advise him, so could only try his best in his own ways to protect his loved ones when thrown into those horrible situations. So young yet having to encounter so much trauma and responsibilities, but no family to turn to anymore.

Maybe I'm the only one thinking that way, but I feel like, Jiang Cheng had the most losses of all - he lost his parents, his sister and finally his brother. He never had a Lan Zhan on his side and even his nephew prefers MengYao over him. When I think about it, it is really sad, bc, everyone he cares for abandons him on one way or another, so, it's not surprising at all, that he became the way he is.

everything he did, everything he done and experience was the fruit of his life and environment. It truly hard to hate him, though his misunderstanding and reaction really makes me want to hate him, but if you look at his reason, you can relate with his action. but still.....
JC portrayed the most complicated character of humans the best he hate and love at thesame time that's even hes mean to WWX I can understand he blame WWX for the tragedy of hes family but it's also not the fault of WWX because if its bound to happen it will happen eventually even we dont want it to happen .
Exactly. Its most complicated character. And the actor did a brilliant job. Even without dialogue in some scenes, he portrayed everything with facial expressions. His eye rolls are epic. Jiang Cheng and LWJ are my favorite characters

From being the best novel and highest grossing novel in China into being made into anime with lots of translations, translated versions of MDZS is everywhere with sound. Then, an adaptation of it made into "The Untamed" that was loved and cherished by many from the mainland China to around the world. The casts gained appreciation and popularity from their country to international fans as well. It opened opportunities to them. It's the only drama that made into a huge concert with all the characters participating. Not just one concert but a lot! And...Now! They made a group called TUBS (Ji Li, Fanxing, Yubin, Bowen, Jiyang, and Yuchen) although not an official boy group, it's a good thing not to waste such a talent. Jiang Cheng may be blunt and spouts nonsense when angry but he truly adores Wei Ying, the death of his last family made him lose all reason. I agree with Jin GuangYao statement though, that if he had shown the people that no matter what they say about Wei Ying and him , he would always support WeiYing and thus their bond is unbreakable. In reality, it was Jiang Cheng who made WeiYing defect from YunMengJiang Sect.
@Von Staufenberg He was 17 years old and had lost his parents and his entire sect had been burnt to the ground. He built it ground up after a war. His position was tenuous, his sister was also getting married in the jin sect. How could he oppose such a strong sect for a bunch of strangers belonging to a sect that burnt his family? WWX was only protecting the Wen sect because Wen Qing and Wen Ning were in it and he owed them a debt. He wasn't actively doing anything for the Wens before he found Wen Qing. JC didn't know that he owed her a debt at all. He still tried to offer her and her brother protection by marriage but she chose to stay with her people. She understood him because he was also a leader like her, not a problem causing irresponsible person like WWX who shot off his mouth causing all kinds of problems. And his so called responsible father always neglected him in favour of WWX and he had to suffer his mother's insecurity because of it. Even Yanli always made excuses for WWXs reckless behaviour. JC is the most innocent person in this entire narrative barring LXC. JC could have told WWX that he lost his core because he was trying to save his life, but he didn't because he didn't want his brother feeling horrible. Most people are just enamored by WWX's charm, humour and good looks and look at the narrative from his linear perspective.

@Von Staufenberg Your premise is wrong. You're absolutely right that the jins plan to exterminate the Wens was horrific. But you assume that JC & the others were aware of it. Even WWX was not aware of it until he left for that place on Jin Zixun's information and actually found out what was happening. After which he didn't even tell JC what he was gonna do or ask for his help. I'm not faulting all of WWXs actions, I'm saying that the perspective is limited on what information JC was operating on. Wen Qing did not approach JC or anyone really, she just ran into WWX. Having threatened & insulted their host, WWX left. At this point, WWX was keeping a lot of secrets & acting arrogantly, making it seem as though he was a rebel without a cause. You're right in saying that WWX is the cleverest of the lot barring JGY. However, he either assumes that everyone is going to fall behind him without any explanation or he assumes that everyone understands everything as clearly and quickly as he does. By that calculation, it was LXC and NMJ who deserve your hatred, because not only were they in a strong position but also, they were aligned with each other and apparently morally higher than JC who was struggling with the tatters of his sect and family. JC would not have gotten any support from LXC and NMJ against JGY & he knew it. He certainly did not know that his brother was going to take all the Wens with him and he didn't know what was happening to them anyways. Additionally, for all his brilliance & moral strength, WWX left the remaining Wens unprotected after Wen Qing & Wen Ning were hanged in his quest for revenge. Even in Yiling, it was Wen Qing who was the defacto leader, he just kept doing experiments. And the drama really glosses over the thousands of Wens that he killed during the war, not all of them were soldiers. When it came to his own feelings, he justified every thing. But let's not take JC's feelings into account. LZ stood with WWX only because of his feelings for him, he did not ever have proof of WWXs innocence until the very end & he didn't accompany him with the Wens even when he knew his brother could protect him. Let me tell you what exactly JC saw & heard. His brilliant older brother whom he saved at the cost of his own golden core & nearly his life, suddenly disappeared in the middle of war & came back as a demonic cultivator with a devil may care attitude. The woman he loved was from the sect that murdered his family, burnt his clan to the ground, you know, like a genocide? Yet he saved her from the Wen prison & offered her marriage. Wen Qing could've chosen differently too, she could've not helped Wen Ruohan when he needed her help with the side effects of demonic cultivation & location of the yin iron. But of course it's okay when she does it because she has a right to protect her sect but JC doesn't. Her helping JC and WWX was, in JCs perspective limited to offering them shelter, which he returned in equal measure to her but she rejected it. JC was a survivor of genocide in which he lost his parents. You are expecting too much of him at this point, it's too much to expect from anybody. WWX was heroic or shallow, I don't know which, to be able to so easily skim over grief for the fallen Jiang sect and help the remnants of the Wen Sect. But I can only assume his major attachment was to JYL & JC and not the rest of them so he was able to get over it faster. Anyways, let's not fool ourselves, the ones to truly blame for everything were WRH & sons, JGS, JGY & XY and deserve hatred. P.S. Leaving aside conflicting viewpoints, I truly hope from the bottom of my heart that your life becomes better and you gain all the peace & happiness that you deserve.
@Von Staufenberg Totally agreed about LZ and WWX romance! It was off the charts without a single kiss in the drama. I actually really disliked the romance portrayal in the book...kind of read like non romantic smut...Xiao Zhan's Wei Ying was phenomenal! And the drama had all the sweetness of romance which attracted me to Asian Dramas in the first place. I was tired of watching the whole "wham bam thank you ma'am" kinda work which dominates a lot of media now a days. Anyways, it was nice to hear your POV on the drama, ciao!

I find Jiang Cheng to be a very pitiful character. He has a reputation for being cynical, not good at expressing his feelings with words, and also under a lot of pressure since he was a child. Besides a talented, outstanding Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng often has a bit of guilt and inferiority, plus the comparison from his mother makes him feel like Wei Wuxian's shadow. Fortunately, although he was jealous of Wei Wuxian, he never intended to harm or hate Wei Wuxian. If Wei Wuxian has Wen Ning, Lan Zhan has Lan Xichen to confide in, Jiang Cheng has no one 😢 Jin Ling may have been his only relative at that time, but he was too young to understand the thoughts of his uncle's story. Every time I watch episode 50, looking at Jiang Cheng's eyes on Wei Wuxian, I feel so sad and sorry for their once-close relationship 😢 Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian, don't be sad. Both have worked hard ❤❤

WWC gave JC his golden core and let JC lead the other clans to kill him at Yiling....and you still think WWX needs to apologise to JC? JC's love is one best enjoyed from afar - you can't trust it fully as he always has his own agenda or other things that are more important. Their relationship is not equal at all. He expected WWX to always be his subordinate. No offense, but what gives him the right to demand that? It's one thing for WWX to offer it but another for him to just accept and expect it. WWX is not actually their family slave/subordinate. He's a free person.

As for the novel...Wei ying..stay with lan Zhan at gusu so Wei ying and Jiang cheng could meet... with each other......the are not apart with each other..for life..🥰🥰

Jiang Cheng may be blunt and spouts nonsense when angry but he truly adores Wei Ying, the death of his last family made him lose all reason. I agree with Jin GuangYao statement though, that if he had shown the people that no matter what they say about Wei Ying and him , he would always support WeiYing and thus their bond is unbreakable. In reality, it was Jiang Cheng who made WeiYing defect from YunMengJiang Sect.
@Von Staufenberg He was 17 years old and had lost his parents and his entire sect had been burnt to the ground. He built it ground up after a war. His position was tenuous, his sister was also getting married in the jin sect. How could he oppose such a strong sect for a bunch of strangers belonging to a sect that burnt his family? WWX was only protecting the Wen sect because Wen Qing and Wen Ning were in it and he owed them a debt. He wasn't actively doing anything for the Wens before he found Wen Qing. JC didn't know that he owed her a debt at all. He still tried to offer her and her brother protection by marriage but she chose to stay with her people. She understood him because he was also a leader like her, not a problem causing irresponsible person like WWX who shot off his mouth causing all kinds of problems. And his so called responsible father always neglected him in favour of WWX and he had to suffer his mother's insecurity because of it. Even Yanli always made excuses for WWXs reckless behaviour. JC is the most innocent person in this entire narrative barring LXC. JC could have told WWX that he lost his core because he was trying to save his life, but he didn't because he didn't want his brother feeling horrible. Most people are just enamored by WWX's charm, humour and good looks and look at the narrative from his linear perspective.

@Von Staufenberg Your premise is wrong. You're absolutely right that the jins plan to exterminate the Wens was horrific. But you assume that JC & the others were aware of it. Even WWX was not aware of it until he left for that place on Jin Zixun's information and actually found out what was happening. After which he didn't even tell JC what he was gonna do or ask for his help. I'm not faulting all of WWXs actions, I'm saying that the perspective is limited on what information JC was operating on. Wen Qing did not approach JC or anyone really, she just ran into WWX. Having threatened & insulted their host, WWX left. At this point, WWX was keeping a lot of secrets & acting arrogantly, making it seem as though he was a rebel without a cause. You're right in saying that WWX is the cleverest of the lot barring JGY. However, he either assumes that everyone is going to fall behind him without any explanation or he assumes that everyone understands everything as clearly and quickly as he does. By that calculation, it was LXC and NMJ who deserve your hatred, because not only were they in a strong position but also, they were aligned with each other and apparently morally higher than JC who was struggling with the tatters of his sect and family. JC would not have gotten any support from LXC and NMJ against JGY & he knew it. He certainly did not know that his brother was going to take all the Wens with him and he didn't know what was happening to them anyways.
Additionally, for all his brilliance & moral strength, WWX left the remaining Wens unprotected after Wen Qing & Wen Ning were hanged in his quest for revenge. Even in Yiling, it was Wen Qing who was the defacto leader, he just kept doing experiments. And the drama really glosses over the thousands of Wens that he killed during the war, not all of them were soldiers. When it came to his own feelings, he justified every thing. But let's not take JC's feelings into account. LZ stood with WWX only because of his feelings for him, he did not ever have proof of WWXs innocence until the very end & he didn't accompany him with the Wens even when he knew his brother could protect him.
Let me tell you what exactly JC saw & heard. His brilliant older brother whom he saved at the cost of his own golden core & nearly his life, suddenly disappeared in the middle of war & came back as a demonic cultivator with a devil may care attitude. The woman he loved was from the sect that murdered his family, burnt his clan to the ground, you know, like a genocide? Yet he saved her from the Wen prison & offered her marriage. Wen Qing could've chosen differently too, she could've not helped Wen Ruohan when he needed her help with the side effects of demonic cultivation & location of the yin iron. But of course it's okay when she does it because she has a right to protect her sect but JC doesn't. Her helping JC and WWX was, in JCs perspective limited to offering them shelter, which he returned in equal measure to her but she rejected it. JC was a survivor of genocide in which he lost his parents. You are expecting too much of him at this point, it's too much to expect from anybody. WWX was heroic or shallow, I don't know which, to be able to so easily skim over grief for the fallen Jiang sect and help the remnants of the Wen Sect. But I can only assume his major attachment was to JYL & JC and not the rest of them so he was able to get over it faster.
Anyways, let's not fool ourselves, the ones to truly blame for everything were WRH & sons, JGS, JGY & XY and deserve hatred.
P.S. Leaving aside conflicting viewpoints, I truly hope from the bottom of my heart that your life becomes better and you gain all the peace & happiness that you deserve.
@Von Staufenberg Totally agreed about LZ and WWX romance! It was off the charts without a single kiss in the drama. I actually really disliked the romance portrayal in the book...kind of read like non romantic smut...Xiao Zhan's Wei Ying was phenomenal! And the drama had all the sweetness of romance which attracted me to Asian Dramas in the first place. I was tired of watching the whole "wham bam thank you ma'am" kinda work which dominates a lot of media now a days. Anyways, it was nice to hear your POV on the drama, ciao!

I find Jiang Cheng to be a very pitiful character. He has a reputation for being cynical, not good at expressing his feelings with words, and also under a lot of pressure since he was a child. Besides a talented, outstanding Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng often has a bit of guilt and inferiority, plus the comparison from his mother makes him feel like Wei Wuxian's shadow. Fortunately, although he was jealous of Wei Wuxian, he never intended to harm or hate Wei Wuxian. If Wei Wuxian has Wen Ning, Lan Zhan has Lan Xichen to confide in, Jiang Cheng has no one 😢 Jin Ling may have been his only relative at that time, but he was too young to understand the thoughts of his uncle's story. Every time I watch episode 50, looking at Jiang Cheng's eyes on Wei Wuxian, I feel so sad and sorry for their once-close relationship 😢

WWC gave JC his golden core and let JC lead the other clans to kill him at Yiling....and you still think WWX needs to apologise to JC? Between the two of them WWX has always gone above and beyond for JC but JC has only ever done what any ordinary person would/could do. JC's love is one best enjoyed from afar - you can't trust it fully as he always has his own agenda or other things that are more important. Their relationship is not equal at all. He expected WWX to always be his subordinate. No offense, but what gives him the right to demand that? It's one thing for WWX to offer it but another for him to just accept and expect it. WWX is not actually their family slave/subordinate. He's a free person.
