The sad part about being an old gamer is watching your favorite childhood developers either disappearing or going full scumbag. Rest in peace early 2000s Bioware and Bungie
A good trip down memory lane for the changes of the PC for games. I like the range on this one, starting from the less complex DOS games that were less powerful than consoles but still had their own unique style to them. Towards the mid 90s these games got more powerful than using synthesizers and started using wave format and 3d. It's great to see the 00s and 10s included as well, where the PC gained more solid footing as more freedom was included. Good compilation of various PC games!
geekgo4 No, it is. The only issue with it is that everyone with a custom built PC thinks everyone else is a peasant, when tons of PC gamers aren't even gaming at 1440p resolution, max settings, etc.
+Dan Zhukov I know 😅😅😅 makes me laugh though, I started my pc gaming days back in 2004 had all of the games including my favourite unreal tournament 1 and command and conquer tiberium wars ☺ but started gaming on ps1 first and stopped pc gaming from 2006 ish until 2012 on my new laptop used 360 but like both pc and console but got my new rig but still play on PS4 and pc and both are great in my eyes!!!! ie stfu kids who think they have bigger dicks
A bunch of games that for their time were amazing. You're looking at those games from a 2012 point of view, now look at them from when they were made, their time.
So video games start nice an innocent, get increasingly violent and now seem to be moving onto cleverer more thematic artistic forms like Limbo Portal and Minecraft. Yeah I could live with that. Tune is really nice man well done.
All the game I recognized: -Minecraft. -Amnesia. -Limbo. -Dioblo 2. -Command and conquer. -Warcraft II -Warcraft III -MW2 -Portal -Civ 5 -Simcity. -lemmings.
There was myst in it! The book at 1:06 is one of the ones from Myst, you know. The ones that contain cutscenes of people in them. I quite fondly remember that game from my childhood! :D
games i recognized: Prince of Persia, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Diablo, Heroes and Might and Magic II, Counter-Strike, Portal, Grand Theft Auto IV, Limbo, Minecraft, Portal 2, Diablo 3
Great video, was disappointed not to see any Company of Heroes footage on here considering the many RTS PC games shown. Also would have liked to see C&C3 or RA3 shown since C&C and RA were.
I find it ignorant for so many people to comment on how this video is "missing" a game. What defines a game as an evolutionary stepping stone or a genre defining game varies greatly from person to person and it would be impossible to include them all.
Classes in FPS games have been there since the first Team Fortress back in 1996. I don't know if earlier, since I haven't played a lot of games from before that time, but I think they might.
This is also a video based on big PC games, and the evolution of the PC games. COD is more well known on consoles. There are games on this, like borderlands, that were on console, but still best played on PC. You can't expect a PC gaming evolution video, to feature console heavy games.
Multiplayer, basically the perk system and ranking system. Most Multiplayer games use similar systems. I don't know whether they invented it (I doubt it though), but the way they implemented it worked, and thats what other companies have looked at.
I love how it jumped from 2002 to 2012 in 5 seconds.
MoronicAcid1 Didn't you notice Half-Life 2 (2004) or Portal (2007)?
Arcade101 I thought that Hitman: Blood Money at 2:06 was Hitman: Absolution, my bad.
And Left 4 Dead 1 (2008)...
That was there as well.
Bro

Rockstar Games became a full scumbag lul
Add EA and Blizzard to the list
"Roger that!" Oh my god polygon, thanks for bringing out the first game I've ever played...gg
great work polygon. this brings back so many memories
Hot damn that is some intense video/sound editing, and an awesome nostalgia trip as well! Congratulations on a job very well done! Love love it!
Nostalgia Overload, thank you.
the only nostalgia i'm feeling here the time is when polygon was good
Megumin #Savage
this needs a refresh
Name your price, I'll do it all over again.
Some great games in there .. but did seem to lose focus and jump randomly around 2003 or so
Its a creative video showing clips from the first games, to ones created now. It wasnt meant to be a timeline, but a creative music clip video.

438 people fucking hate claptrap enough to thumb down. I don't blame them, really.
Dang frum doom to portal 2
PC Gaming still Master Race?
Whether is it of not, all I know is PC Gaming is a beast of its own.
geekgo4 No, it is. The only issue with it is that everyone with a custom built PC thinks everyone else is a peasant, when tons of PC gamers aren't even gaming at 1440p resolution, max settings, etc.

kieran simpson You're the man. No really, I needed a break from the internet's crap
+Dan Zhukov not every console gamer is a peasants, just the stupid ones who think theyre better than PC.
Dan Zhukov HAH tons of console players aren't even at 1080p!
Wow, it's been ten years.
Nine years ago, wow! Definitely time for a refresher.
*Praise GabeN* *Pcmasterrace*
you can tell a lot of work was put into this
your game mixes inspire me keep it up man
Timeless.
However...
Would love to hear Track 2!
Max Payne 1 still one of the best games ive ever played. The feeling you got playing that game as a teen is something I miss
2:00 Empire Earth!! One of the greatest RTS games to date!
Omg "let's go!" And that shotgun click. And the gallop of heroes!! Omg.
I love that music! Well done!!
I still have a long way to go. I became a gamer last year, and I can see how I'm still missing many MANY games to play. This is awesome. :)
Man, that was great. I'm sad I didn't start PC gamming till 92-93 though. Great video!
holy fuck that was awesome. I've never felt such condensed nostalgia before in my entire life.
Well composed, sir. I see a lot of complaints for certain games, and they should have been added but that list could go on for miles anyway.
Nice editing :D
what a fun way to present the history. awesome stuff!
Quiet Epic! Brought back childhood memories. Just remember when the first 3dfx card came out. Awesome!
Awesome how the amount of fps clones are going down and making way for the indie developers who made the industry
Love the video
An updated one would be most appreciated!
Found this on /f/ a long time ago, been looking for it ever since.
Nostalgic as hell.
aiming down sights, health regen, killstreaks, perks, making cinematic almost movielike games,

Tune is really nice man well done.
XCOM, C&C, Warcraft 2, Dark Forces, Arena... god, the memories...
Anyone else catch that tiny yet awesome clip of "Day of the Tentacle", the greatest PC game ever?
All the game I recognized:
-Minecraft.
-Amnesia.
-Limbo.
-Dioblo 2.
-Command and conquer.
-Warcraft II
-Warcraft III
-MW2
-Portal
-Civ 5
-Simcity.

This is what drove my mom crazy while I spent hours playing on the family computer for years!
cool that HOMM was in this. I am missing the sims and Roller coaster tycoon, and popcap games =P. Nice vid!
Dat background music...brings back memories..:)
Can you make a new one updated? Loved this video!
Still watching it after many years.
0:59 Perhaps the greatest strategy game of all times ! I salute you C&C Red Alert
I just nostalgia'd all over my keyboard and my desk.
and now I have several games I need to re-install.
Awesume, Pitty you did not add Battlefield 3 or Max Payne 3 at the end to show how far gaming has come.
brought back so many memories )) thanks!
this is so good on so many levels
The Warcraft III storyline is the best thing the fictional strategy games can offer
Awesome video!
i love how you showed pretty much all of valves games XD.they are like the pc gaming gods.
nice sound mix :D
YES I KNOW. People were complaining in the comments that it wasn't so I used it as an example.
Awesome! Thanks man!
Nice Song and Video!
I like that he used all 3 Diablo games. Those games are awesome.
There's nothing wrong with my hearing, Mr Mcdowell. All I can hear is awesome.

Great video, was disappointed not to see any Company of Heroes footage on here considering the many RTS PC games shown. Also would have liked to see C&C3 or RA3 shown since C&C and RA were.
Now available on Steam.
If you know every single game in this video, your childhood was FRAKING AWESOME and i a so jelly, dont remember the very old ones
the nostalgia i cant handle it!
He put Fallout in it, which is much more significant than all the others you mentioned put together.
I find it ignorant for so many people to comment on how this video is "missing" a game. What defines a game as an evolutionary stepping stone or a genre defining game varies greatly from person to person and it would be impossible to include them all.
All my childhood, thanks!
Classes in FPS games have been there since the first Team Fortress back in 1996. I don't know if earlier, since I haven't played a lot of games from before that time, but I think they might.
Can we get an update to this now that unreal engine 5 is here

1:14 the beginning of an epic game
My only complaints: No Might and Magic, no Myst and no Commander Keen.
Damn near perfect, none the less.
I only said it because it has some of the most well recognised sounds.
When I die, this video will flash before my eyes.
I love the melody :)
great video!
i love how it jumped to 8 bit to 16 bit
what came between them?
Best video of 2012 .
You sir are a genius .
Wow! I love this. I remember some of those classic dos games too. That darn pink cat!? What was that all about anyhow. :D
1:51
The Original DEUS EX
I love that game!!!
So cool, thanks Patrick.
I'm glad that I'm a part of that history!
Dudes, this video is much more about the song than the history of games. It wouldn't be possible to put all the games ever made in it.
When the video stopped showing DOS games I felt the urge to restart the video...
1:45 best song ever
Plus, it's a video about "GAMES THAT WERE BORN ON THE PC AND IT IS IT'S MAIN PLATFORM"...
Amazing recopilation bro n.n
You are all arguing over "missing games" but i just like the sounds!
Multiplayer, basically the perk system and ranking system. Most Multiplayer games use similar systems. I don't know whether they invented it (I doubt it though), but the way they implemented it worked, and thats what other companies have looked at.
I love the music.
NICE VIDEO !!!
its been a sweet ride :)
Good games compil, good music, best memories. Thx
