This was super interesting. I think that while everyone is involved with social media and "capturing the moment" these days, the more subscribers you have (more so if they're subscribing for the person over the content) the more pressure there is to capture things. Filming around non-Internet people can feel kinda jarring but at the end of the day dem memz make up for it.
This was very interesting and I would watch/listen to these conversations gladly in the future! Felt like I was just calmly sitting at the other side of the room just listening to a couple of friends having a chat.
I really liked this, it was so interesting to see you both analyse a project you both work so hard on. Please film something like this again! Also, Daniel, I think you're quite good at asking other creators about their videos. You should think about doing it more :)
Interesting point of views from both of you. I always saw monthly vlogs as moments you want to get back to. Really enjoy watching this. PsWhy was Hazel holding an empty glass?
as someone doing monthly vlogs as well, hazel's train of thought really helps! i've really been wondering about showing vs telling, and the pros and cons of each, and it just really helped :)
Also it's fab to watch you both talk about the ups and downs of monthly blogging, and see the other side of stuff, in a way. It looks like it can be quite a taxing project, but it's lovely that you're all supporting each other and can openly talk about the things you're worried about, a lot of which s very relatable to people who don't blog as well. I don't take many photos, but when I do I always feel like a bit of a knob getting my camera out with all my friends. But then all of my photos go in my scrapbook which I've been working on for years, and I adore 💜
More chatty videos, especially on topics like this and TH-cam, gives more of an insight on people wanting to also partake in monthly vlogging. Loved it.
Please make more, it was really interesting topics and advice and so helpful. I've felt these same things and I don't really have anyone else to talk to about it since my friends and family don't vlog or understand this world.
I love these kind of "chatty" videos that feel genuinely like friends having a conversation. So I'd love to see more like this one or your effortless chat with Jack
OH NOO, I knew it would end with your camera dying D: Do more of this! I loved this conversation and weirdly enough it helps me on my film thesis about vlogging 👀
Really enjoying the whole monthly vlog thing. I like the idea of having something to look back on in years to come and reminisce on old memories and see how far you've come. Keep on keeping on Daniel j Layton 😘
I feel like people forget that journaling and taking pictures is a thing. Maybe it's true that you can easily capture more by vlogging but you don't need to constantly film your life. Your memory probably won't disappear in a few years, so writing a journal entry will probably capture the moment nicely, whereas when you turn on a camera you tend to see the moment through a lens instead of just naturally experiencing the moment. Maybe I'm just old school in that thinking, but it seems like vlogging is different then experiencing if you know what I mean. And by vlogging I mean taking time out of the moment to take your camera out, not recapping the moment after (the latter doesn't really make you take yourself out of the moment). But at the same time if you're not looking through the viewfinder I guess you can still participate in the moment, to a degree.
this conversation was so interesting to me because as someone who is guilty of living through their camera I can understand the want to take photos of everything. I bring my camera everywhere but not for youtube, but for myself and friends and whether its a party or just going for a walk I can end up taking over 200 photos. Sometimes looking back I think that the amount I took was too excessive but then again I miss the times I didnt have my camera. My friends see me as someone who is always stuck behind my camera documenting everything so when Im not they tend to ask "Why arent you taking photos/get a photo of us!" but I do have days where I was to live in the moment and remember it for myself. Sorry for the rant but I loved everything about this little video because it hit home and made me think about how I present myself to everyone else
Bloody love these! Just a natural chat and chilling on the sofa. Just sometimes nice to see the quiet, reflective side of youtube. Nicely done. (Also brilliant ending)
I really loved watching this. Seeing the two of you having an open and honest chit chat was very rewarding. I hope you two decide to do a few more of them in the future.
I'm actually doing that thing 'like, favorite and subscribe' well except that last part, cause I already have- but this was some really useful insight into TOTM and monthly vlogs. I'm about to go through a ton of changes (new school, moving, parents moving, getting married to name a few) and I want to capture it. And this set so many of my doubts as ease. I look up to you both so much, thank you for this!
Definitely liked this type of video. Fascinating to hear what goes on in your heads as you film your lives. Would love to hear more about it! Also really liked the casual format, not a rigid interview :)
I really enjoy these types of videos! It's really lovely just watching you chat with friends about things that are important to you or are on your mind. This video as well as ones like with Jack are very natural and homey but are still full of time-worthy entertainment :)
this is actually a really interesting topic u should totally talk more about it! really cool to hear your (somewhat) differing viewpoints on monthly vlogging
I'm obviously not on the same level as you two but I started my channel as a way to remember all the fun things I do and I've found myself relating a lot to what you're talking about. Especially Dan. Particularly not realising you should have filmed something until it's to late and filming around people who aren't into youTube. That's something I want to get better at and it was very helpful listening to both of you chat about it 💙
I found this really interesting. I've thought about vlogging just one day of say for example a trip out, knowing when to film and when not to film is a burning question I seem to come back too. Great video.
I really enjoyed the way you asked questions and analysed projects you both put so much time and effort into :) it would be awesome to see you sit and chat with other creators like this at some point in the future!
Oh man that discussion was really interesting! I think there have been a few cases recently of people "confessing" the downsides of vlogging one's real life and how it affected their private life, questions about authenticity, etc... so I really wondered what was your (I mean your little circle of "monthly vloggers" or whatever) point of view on that!
I always have that fear of 'ruining a moment' by taking out a camera to vlog it, especially because most of my friends don't do the whole youtube thing. It was really nice to hear both of your thoughts on that situation, I feel like I might not be as afraid to do it from now on :)
This was super interesting!! I wonder if it's the fact that Hazel is normally the one interviewing, but I liked hearing her view on video making and the like. You think of/find good questions Dan! Well done with this.
Everyone who's been doing totm and pms inspired me a while back to start vlogging my last semester of university (I gave up after a month LOL) but last night I watched back what I had made and I'm happy I had filmed a few memories, although its super cringey haha Lovely hearing your opinions on the projects you guys work on! keep up the good work :)
I'd love to take more pictures on my phone for the future , but it always feels weird to treat my present as a future memory? Also absolutely love these kind of chatty videos ❤
Really enjoyed watching this video as I'm just starting a monthly vlog series, so it was really interesting and useful to hear your experiences and advice 😊👍🏻 X
I'd like to point out that I was in the next room when Dan did that impression of me. It was awful then and it's awful now.
ChewingSand 😂
I thought it was a very good Aisling Bea!
Chewings and
I love how Hazel is just holding an empty wine glass the entire video
CarolinaYng
Gotta keep the brand alive😂
i am SCREAMING at dan's impression of a daddy long legs against a mirror GOODBYE
"leave a comment in the description" I love adrian bliss
Funnily enough I was about to comment this
I really really liked this, the fact a lot of it was just dan asking questions made it so much more interesting than a random q&a
You haven't seen the video on Hazel's channel have you?
AllThingsSquare shitshitshit
Corey Holt :)
Daniel J. Layt-night-show-ton
My own late night show would be a ruddy dream. A RUDDY DREAM I TELL YA.
+Daniel J. Layton (oh shit he actually replied) I'd pay to watch your late night show, that'd be awesome
Imagine the guests!
The ending with Jack, "was it realistic?" JUST PERFECT
This was super interesting. I think that while everyone is involved with social media and "capturing the moment" these days, the more subscribers you have (more so if they're subscribing for the person over the content) the more pressure there is to capture things. Filming around non-Internet people can feel kinda jarring but at the end of the day dem memz make up for it.
I'd like to say the more you do it, the less jarring it is. But six months in and I still feel a bit of an asshole every time I get the camera out!!
The very end with Jack absolutely killed me !!!
I Love this style of vlog from you guys. Similar to Tipsy Talk, I just like watching friends chat.
This was very interesting and I would watch/listen to these conversations gladly in the future! Felt like I was just calmly sitting at the other side of the room just listening to a couple of friends having a chat.
loved this. I could have watched it for multiple battery lengths.
I really liked this, it was so interesting to see you both analyse a project you both work so hard on. Please film something like this again! Also, Daniel, I think you're quite good at asking other creators about their videos. You should think about doing it more :)
Thank you =D I'm quite nosy, I think it helps!
Interesting point of views from both of you. I always saw monthly vlogs as moments you want to get back to. Really enjoy watching this.
PsWhy was Hazel holding an empty glass?
i reckon this could be classed as #content
Your impressions of spiders and bugs are gold
Dan's daddy long legs impression is honestly spot on 😂
as someone doing monthly vlogs as well, hazel's train of thought really helps! i've really been wondering about showing vs telling, and the pros and cons of each, and it just really helped :)

Fucking hell, that cut when the battery died make me jump.
Interesting and valuable conversation though, more please!
more please! this is the sort of thing i always wonder about its so interesting to hear you guys discuss it so thoughtfully :)
Just watched hazels video and I was waiting for this one xD
I really enjoyed the chat with Hazel and the way this path ran. Just Lovely! Cheers! Please have Chats again.
this was fascinating and felt very thoughtful and intimate, I'd love to see more of these
More please!! I actually really enjoyed just the informality of it, and how it was just a chat. I would love more videos like this, Dan
More chatty videos, especially on topics like this and TH-cam, gives more of an insight on people wanting to also partake in monthly vlogging. Loved it.
I love these chilled waffly ones dan they're my fave!
heyyy thanks for answering my question, really useful video. Main thing I'm gonna take away from it: make sure camera is fully charged before filming!
This is a very vital thing that all professional vloggers do...
hmm yes, I can see the benefits of taking this very vital and complex step before filming
Please make more, it was really interesting topics and advice and so helpful. I've felt these same things and I don't really have anyone else to talk to about it since my friends and family don't vlog or understand this world.
I like the montage-y things, I do, but mostly I like the friends sections. Because you're all so close, it seems, and it's nice to see that.
I love these kind of "chatty" videos that feel genuinely like friends having a conversation. So I'd love to see more like this one or your effortless chat with Jack
I love these talking vlogs. It always seems more real.
Love these laid back late night chat videos.
OH NOO, I knew it would end with your camera dying D: Do more of this! I loved this conversation and weirdly enough it helps me on my film thesis about vlogging 👀
very nice and interesting to listen to your chat with hazel! would love to see more of these conversations with her or any other of your friends
Really enjoying the whole monthly vlog thing. I like the idea of having something to look back on in years to come and reminisce on old memories and see how far you've come. Keep on keeping on Daniel j Layton 😘
I enjoyed this a lot over my morning cup of coffee
I loved this!!! Please do it again, I was getting so into it and then it ended.... xxx
You should definitely have more videos like this they are super interesting to listen to!!!

20 minutes of Dan and Hazel, this has totally made my evening.
More of this and your Effortless Chats, please and thank you.
this conversation was so interesting to me because as someone who is guilty of living through their camera I can understand the want to take photos of everything. I love these videos cause i feel like im chilling in your living room with u guys and were having a nice chat its so nice and comforting💕
Bloody love these! Just a natural chat and chilling on the sofa. Just sometimes nice to see the quiet, reflective side of youtube. Nicely done.
(Also brilliant ending)
I love that this is just you asking Hazel all the advice about vlogging that I want to know too!
I really loved watching this. Seeing the two of you having an open and honest chit chat was very rewarding. I hope you two decide to do a few more of them in the future.
That hazel impression though 👌🏻👌🏻
I'm actually doing that thing 'like, favorite and subscribe' well except that last part, cause I already have- but this was some really useful insight into TOTM and monthly vlogs. The noise when the battery died made me jump!! Also I loved that ending so much.
My favourite things to watch and experience are the at home hangouts.
"Leave a comment in the description." I think that's from watching Adrian Bliss' Vlune :D
I was so confused as to how her glass was empty.
but, really, I loved the conversation and the topic. thanks for broaching it.
absolutely bloody loved this - such an interesting conversation, would love to hear more from your perspectives! love both of your monthly vlawwwwgzz
Watching you and hazel chat is so lovely 💜💜
i did enjoy this candid conversation, it was interesting to watch. im shit with words, the other commenters have some great points though.
More of that? Yes please!
This was actually the kinda kick I needed to start filming through summer again :) thank you
the kind of content i subscribed for
I really appreciated the impression of Hazel at the end... I'm sure she did as well
That was a really interesting video. Very good and informative. I love it when bloggers just sit down and honestly chat
I've been wondering about so many of these questions/concerns that you (Dan) had myself so this was good, very nice
This was so good, I feel you always pull the best conversation out of people. A follow up on post-mortem battery would be awesome!
Love this kind of vlogs, it's really interesting to have your and Hazel's POV on the monthly vlogs!
Definitely liked this type of video. Fascinating to hear what goes on in your heads as you film your lives. Would love to hear more about it! Also really liked the casual format, not a rigid interview :)
please please make another video like this! so interesting
Dan is nearly at 100k!!
I really enjoy these types of videos! It's really lovely just watching you chat with friends about things that are important to you or are on your mind. This video as well as ones like with Jack are very natural and homey but are still full of time-worthy entertainment :)

Interesting and fun to watch. Would love more 'chats' like this!
I found this really interesting.
I've thought about vlogging just one day of say for example a trip out, knowing when to film and when not to film is a burning question I seem to come back too.

This made me happy! Thank you Dan and Hazel!!

Always been a fan of that Chewings And girl.
I loved this video so much. Please make more.
I've missed your effortless chatty videos! X
these are my favourite kind of videos:)
This was lots of fun, nice and relaxing to watch too!
I always have that fear of 'ruining a moment' by taking out a camera to vlog it, especially because most of my friends don't do the whole youtube thing. It was really nice to hear both of your thoughts on that situation, I feel like I might not be as afraid to do it from now on :)

Really enjoyed watching this video as I'm just starting a monthly vlog series, so it was really interesting and useful to hear your experiences and advice 😊👍🏻 X
