Billy Powell was a roadie for the band for about two years...In 1972, Skynyrd played a show at the Bolles School prom. During a break at that event, Powell sat down at a piano and played a song. When the band realized their roadie's ability, he was offered the position of keyboardist.
We didn't go to gyms back then, we got up on the dancefloor. Good way to get your cardio AND sweat out the booze! Loved this song and danced 100 miles to it in clubs.
Now that's cooking with grease . Great performance. As far as I'm concerned, the greatest rock band ever. I traded guitar picks with Gary a few years ago. A good friend of mine is their drum tech/standby drummer so I got to meet him. Super nice fella. RIP Gary and the rest of the band.
You gotta love Ronnie out there barefooted, singing his heart out.... and always backing away or even pushing the guitarists out there for their moment on stage ! My favorite video ( Freebird live Aug. 21, 1976 ) is when they opened for The Rolling Stones*, & Ronnie was pushing the guys out onto the sacred Rolling Stones tongue stage (the part of stage they were told to stay off of) * BTW after a few shows it should have been the other way around ✌️😉
Hard to put a candle to this band they were the complete deal . Seen them in 1977 in Buffalo New York in June just a few short months before that fateful plane crash rest in peace lynyrd skynyrd ❤🙏
there is a dvd live at knebworth 1976 lynyrd skynyrd the whole set including sweet home alabama / call me the breeze there was 150,000 - 200,000 pepole there. it also cd as this is amazing set it has been remastered visual and sound i'm 70years old now but this blew my mind best i have seen ever to actualy have this now. there performance is all live and perfect
As an old guy that grew up in the 60's and early 70's we had so much awesome music from so many different bands it has never been matched before or since. I think one of the big differences was the musicians did it more for the love of making music rather than the paycheck and the passion and soul they put into their craft shows in the music which music made today totally lacks that same depth and vibrancy.
Look up mama’s pride it’s a band that was going to open for LS on their tour , then the plane crash , what could of been , they are a great and from St. Louis area
Great!!!!! I would like if you can react to another great rock band The Black Crowes ''Stare it Cold'' or ''Rainy Day Woman'' live in Monster of Rock Moscow 1991
Travis & Suzi Last member of original lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Rossington (dark haired wearing dark shirt), guitarist died early last year. Other members including Ronnie's van Zant's little brother, Johnnie, who reformed the band in 1987, 10 years after of the infamous crash that killed his brother, Ronnie, of current lineup for LS were considering to breakup right after Rossington death. But fans and original members' estates and families wanted current lineup to live on tradition of Lynyrd Skynyrd's legacy. I have seen them twice one time many years ago and second was in July of last year. Skynyrd Nation!
CALL ME THE BREEZE means because 'I am MR COOL!!! In my BOOMER generation 'COOL' was the term (instead of 'chill'). Like 'be cool , man' and 'that's so cool.'
Travis and Susie I think I know y’all are married but you two could pass as brother and sister. I know that’s icky in a sense I know because me and my husband look a lot alike which I heard y’all are meant to be together if that’s the case❤😂
You can't listen to that song for rhe first time live...there's no comparison for how much better it sounds on the album....please listen to it again and not the live version.... I can't even listen to this ..its bad
This is one of their worst performances captired on video, actually. Ronnie had a bad cold and could barely sing, theyd just lost Ed King so their sound was skinnier, and they were playing on a small stage with limited amps. Together ot makes for a flat performance. Still great, but if you want to see what they were capable of, gotta check them out at Oakland or opening for the Stones in England (they will absolutely blow your socks off!)
During one of the tours, while riding on the bus, Leon had his throat cut and they blamed it on Ed. Ed was a peaceful hippy from California and I find it hard to believe that. Sounds more like something Ronny would do and they covered it up because he was essentially the band.
LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL THIS SOUND SUCKS ALWAYS THE STUDIO ORIGINAL WITH CLASSIC ROCK THAT IS WHAT MADE THIS SONG FAMOUS NOT THIS WAY LATER LIVE WITH SH//// SOUND
Billy Powell, one of the most underrated talents EVER!
Under rated not by a long shot these guys owned the stage back in the day
I play piano, obviously not as well. Most of that is one handed and difficult.
Amazing that he started out as their roadie and they had no idea he could play like that.
Ya know I just minimized the vid and scrolled down intending to leave almost exactly this comment.

It's one of my favorite songs. Foot stomping southern rock.
...and they make it look easy...this is the cream of the crop southern rock baby!!!!! Go Wolf Hunterz
They were such a PHENOMENAL Band.
And they were one guitarist short on this. Steve Gaines normally played lead on part of this.
Billy Powell did more on a piano with one hand than some people do with both hands ..... master player ...
Artimus Pyle was an absolute beast back in the day! Amazing band. One of the most talented group of musicians ever assembled.
Fantastic performance that knocked the bloomers of the British audience. LOL Between Gary Rossington's guitar and Billy Powell's piano, outstanding!
Billy Powell on keys 🎹🔥
Love this song. Always nice to see the original members together.
J.J. Cale. He also wrote Cocaine, and After Midnight, covered by Eric Clapton.
He allso wrote Same Ole blues by LS and Clyde by Waylon Jennings
One of Greatest Bands of All Time.
That was a killer live performance.. Taped together mics.. rough and raw as hell... Brilliant.. ! No auto tune there...
Yip . JJ Cale. Great tunes from Mr Cale. Great Times also watching Old Grey Whistle Test.
Skynyrd forever. RIP.
We didn't go to gyms back then, we got up on the dancefloor. Good way to get your cardio AND sweat out the booze! Loved this song and danced 100 miles to it in clubs.
I read where Ronnie was sick during this performance, and you can hear it in his voice. He’s still great, though. Best band ever.
Oh yeah, getting in the ‘68 Chevelle SS 396, throwing this in my 8-track, and opening up the throttle! Road-music at its finest! 👍🏼❤️
Seeing these guys live back in July 1976 with 3 other southern rock bands was the best live show I have ever seen....
True professionals doin what they do! You Cannot Beat that!
Soon as I saw what they were reacting to I sent it straight to my playlist .
Thank you so much for reviewing this! One of my favorite tunes ever and never saw this live version!
A great cover to a great tune ... JJ Cale was the most under rated singer songwriters of all time
I was on the road from the middle of August to the middle of November work shows in Texas and Florida and I adopted this song as my theme song

Gary Rossington and Billy Powell are two ot the most underrated musicians in history.
Billy Powell was a BEAST.
Hard to put a candle to this band they were the complete deal . Seen them in 1977 in Buffalo New York in June just a few short months before that fateful plane crash rest in peace lynyrd skynyrd ❤🙏
Freebird from this same session at the Old Grey Whistle Test is unbelievable. It's a must watch!!!
Got a little emotional there. Never gonna be another.
The two 🎤 🎤 are great! 😂❤❤❤
A proper band… saw them at Knebworth in 76 supporting Rolling Stones…not a bad day out.
Skynyrd were the kings of guitar. Free Bird is unparalleled.
Breeze, I'm so blown away.
Gary Rossington tearing it up
My favorite Skynyrd song. You should hear the studio version, with horns added in - it's perfect!
The very best rock band EVER, with a bullet !!
"Cause I'm so BLOWN!!!"😂🤣😆🤭🌬️💨🎷🤟🎸
Love the pearl choker! That's awesome LOL
Love the Pearl necklace!!❤️❤️🤘🏻
Great JJ Cale song to start off New Year 2024🎉
My favorite is "I Know A Little", it has an upbeat similar to this song.
there is a dvd live at knebworth 1976 lynyrd skynyrd the whole set including sweet home alabama / call me the breeze there was 150,000 - 200,000 pepole there. it also cd as this is amazing set it has been remastered visual and sound i'm 70years old now but this blew my mind best i have seen ever to actualy have this now. there performance is all live and perfect
Anyone else find it hard to believe that this is the first time ever hearing it?😊
I'm 64 and grew up with Skynyrds music in Alabama. It's great seeing some of these videos I didn't know existed.
Today, January 15th is Ronnies's birthday. RIP Freebird
❤ Happy New Year Guys! Love y'all!
Thanks!
Please review "Roll With The Changes" or 157 Riverside Avenue, by REO Speedwagon when you have time. Love your reviews!
Fantastic piano 🔥
I love your hair Suzi!
Happy New Year to you guys!

Very true fact right there! Was born in 68 and loved this band
The ultimate southern rock rock song IMHO.
Southern rock, great J J Cale song.
You have to watch Freebird from the sane set at the old grey whistle test!!!
I GOT SEE THEM TWICE !!🔥🎸🐐😍😢😢😢
That was bad ass
🤔💭this is a JJ Cale song, check out "Call the Doctor" "If You're Ever in Oklahoma" "Crazy Mama" and many more! 👍👍
A well oil machine
One of my favorite karaoke songs!
"Ain't no change in the weather, Ain't no changing me"...J.J Cale. pause a moment. Let that sink in.
Your welcome.✌️
Look up mama’s pride it’s a band that was going to open for LS on their tour , then the plane crash , what could of been , they are a great and from St. Louis area
Call me the breeze ‘cause I break the wind. 👍
Finally
Another legendary song written by JJ Cale.
LS...this is a fun song
You can tell Ronnie was sick with a cold in this video
Great!!!!! I would like if you can react to another great rock band The Black Crowes ''Stare it Cold'' or ''Rainy Day Woman'' live in Monster of Rock Moscow 1991
But it's on the radio ALL THE TIME
Jammin as usual. There's no substitute for Ronnie Vanzant, not even his brother. Sorry! It's just that simple.
A!an Collins underrated.
Gary everyone knew was good.
Breeze = Easy Going
You need to listen to "I Know a Little" as well

@@markhopkins222 I know.
sorry got to say bye - i know the actual classic song with great studio performance sound
Yeah, I was about a minute in, and realized that nothing's gonna be better than the studio version, so sorry. I am bailing.
Billy Powell former roadie. Till they found out he could jam.
Did you notice Ronnie’s barefeet?
CALL ME THE BREEZE means because 'I am MR COOL!!! In my BOOMER generation 'COOL' was the term (instead of 'chill'). Like 'be cool , man' and 'that's so cool.'
Gator Country Molly Hatchet

Ronnie was always bare foot on stage
Alice Cooper -"Go To Hell" 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A J.J. Cale song from his Naturally album. Magnolia by J.J. Cale should make its way onto your reaction list
You can't listen to that song for rhe first time live...there's no comparison for how much better it sounds on the album....please listen to it again and not the live version.... I can't even listen to this ..its bad

After Ed King left
This song should be called: CALL ME THE FART.....
The J.J. Cale original version is much better.
Stop talking and react
Thanks!
Thank you so much dave! We are greatful for you! Have a nice week!
Travis and Suzi
