I'm side-eyeing all my kitchen cabinets, and nothing is safe now that I've seen this 🤣 But you can pry my stand mixer out of my cold dead hands 😵 Admittedly up until a few months ago, I was only mixing 3-5 cakes in it per year, but I just discovered I could make pizza bases at home, so my stand mixer has a new purpose cos we eat a bunch of homemade pizza! Fellow ADHDer too 🤝🙂
I will never part with my Kitchen Aid mixer. It was my mom's and is about 45 years old. I used to always love to mix everything by hand, but now have lost strength in my arms and hands. I mix everything from cakes, cookies, pie crust to bread, meatloaf, and mashed potatoes. It is used almost daily and is a huge energy saver! I also have multiple wooden spoons, spatulas, etc. I use a wheelchair that raises 10 inches so I can reach the counter. When I drop my utensils, it's handy to have an extra to grab! Then when I lower my chair I can pick up everything from the floor! But, I agree...if you don't have a use for something, get it out of the kitchen!
I have 4 almost the same spatula. I like how they are shaped and how well they work in my kitchen. I personally don't plan on getting rid of any, instead I would like to acquire 3 more ( if I ever see them). If I do I will get rid of 5 less valuable Items.
The avocado cutter that I got at a great price at Ikea was donated less than a month later. When the "pit remover" wouldn't work for me, I could no longer justify having it, and I didn't like how it laughed at me everytime I opened my drawer 🤨
You will have to cleave my Kitchenaid out of my cold dead hands too. I bake everything from scratch and my wrists are knackered from volleyball injuries. So enough said. My system that I have shared with others works....decide that you want to declutter your kitchen. For example you want to declutter your utensils. I find an empty container that gets the utensils put in there after washing and after a time that you decide eg 1 week or 2 I chose a month which was a good representation of what gets used. Everything else got put in a time will tell box. Give it another set time for dipping into the box for baking or cooking or occasions or parties....this was sustainable and Earth friendly rather than donating everything and then going out to buy new stuff from a Big Box Store where the quality is worse than what I already owned. Kitchens should suit the person using the space.
No uni-taskers allowed in my kitchen! And my cheese grater also, carrots, zucchini, potatoes, and etc. Your new kitchen turned out beautiful. Thanks for the video.
Just found your channel, loving your videos!! I had the SAME popsicle maker. I had good intentions but literally never used it. Got rid of it and learned my lesson 😅
I have to admit that I bristled a smidge when you mentioned having too many spatulas. 🤨Then, of course, I made myself hear you out. Now, I'm thinking about WHICH spatulas/spoons/scrapers I use most... and I think I've almost decluttered enough that I use all 30 of what I have left! 😂 Ok, ok... I can eliminate a few more! Sheesh! 😒 Thanks for making me feel like I'm ok where I'm at as long as I continue to make progress. 🤩💯🤘
One unitasker that I will keep (besides my cheese grater) is my serrated peeler from Pampered Chef... (which they discontinued, so I bought a back up before they sold out - and I never do that!) It works so well on thick-skinned things like sweet potatoes, cucumbers, squash, etc! Yes, I could use pretty much any knife for those jobs, but man does this peeler earn its spot in my drawer! My kitchen is so much less cluttered than it used to be. But I imagine if I look again, I could find some more things to declutter.
Well you’re too late! I took back my kitchen in December! My daughter in law was in need of mixing bowls, mom to the rescue!!! I got rid of SO MUCH STUFF. Love my new usable kitchen!
I got really sick for awhile and couldn’t do a lot of the things I normally do so I gave my kitchen aid mixer to the soup kitchen in town. Well, I got better and wanted to do stuff again so I had to rebuy it.
my kitchen is the most minimal room in the house and I love it but friends think I'm crazy only having one whisk, one wooden spoon etc. If I need to use a utensil in two different things making food then I rinse or wash it and use again! I do cook every day and I get by with one large frying pan, one stock pot and a mini non stick pan for the times people want one egg it really is doable!
As soon as I get rid of it I then need it! We have 4 adults using our kitchen. Pans don't always get cleaned before I have to cook and nobody but me wipes down the counters and sink.
You are so cute! I'll keep my trusty hand mixer of 30 years. Thank you. My kitchen is small, and every single thing needs to WORK. Everything does not work, but I am working on it. Ongoing. PS love Alton Brown
Banana cutter and avocado cutter (and many other unitask items) ONLY have their place in my kitchen because I have a freeze dryer. They make quicker work of making unified slices to freeze dry. If I didn't have a freeze dryer, they would be bye bye. Well, they wouldn't have even been purchased.
Hello! People poke fun of some "unitaskers" that seem ridiculous to them, but they often are useful for folks with disabilities, arthritis, etc. "Do we need an avocado scoop when there's this option (squeezing the avocado) available?" Yes, because squeezing isn't possible for everyone, like me sometimes depending on my hands that day. I use my avocado scoop all the time so, like your apple corer/peeler, it has earned its spot in my drawer. Plus, it makes pretty slices. 😃
You are right Kristen, and I did not mean to offend you. Thanks for pointing this out. I am glad that the scoop works for you. I used to scoop out the avocado with a spoon, but I bet the the scoop works even better! Always keep the things you use
@@MinimalistHome no offense taken, just a bit of a reminder I guess. 🙂I'm new here (after your live in Dawn's group last weekend) and really enjoying -- and bingeing -- your videos!
What do you do with appliance boxes? My larger ones are Air purifiers and Vacuum boxes. They are taking up space in my garage and I'm starting to throw them away...especially after finding mice droppings in one of them. I was keeping them for when/if I move again. Thank you.
Recycling! It’s okay to let these go once you see if it works and doesn’t need to be returned. You need space in your home NOW and you will find adequate boxes if needed for a move in the future. & Mice are sneaky! LOL
Ok!! The one thing in my kitchen is all my yeti cups and starkbucks cups and hydro flasks!!! And all there lids! That’s my biggest challenge!!!! Idk how to store them :/
You can rip my OXO avocado peeler from my cold dead hands. I live that thing. I use it all the time. Like, I would NEVER own an apple corer. So really, to each their own. 🤷🏾
OMG, I need a spatula so bad it's hard to flip an egg without one, and since I wasn't using it right that minute, my daughter got rid of it! I eat eggs every morning! 🤨
I know people like drying mats, but I actually love my dish drainer. I don't own a dishwasher, except for my 2 hands. Drying mats can smell bad really quickly and things fall off of it. I just don't like them.
I get kitchen decluttering of under and less used things.....but in this era of inflation, I strongly urge against tossing too many tools, pots, and pans which are used for from scratch cooking.
I'm going to start this comment by saying I Hate cooking. I only have to feed myself so why should I cook? (OK. I do cook enough to feed myself, but baking doesn't happen.) When decluttering my kitchen I got rid of the liquidiser, the stand mixer and the electric toaster. I had to dust those things off before disposal! Burger press? Who presses their own burgers? Egg slicer? That's what knives are for. Spatula's? Two mixing bowls equals two spatula's. Potato masher? Dehydrated is the way to go when cooking for one. The potato masher is now hanging on the kitchen wall, by a pretty satin bow. Kitchen utensils, recycled as wall art, is apparently the way to go in my house.

My Kitchenaid is in use only one in a month but it's my Kitchen Aid even when I don't use it, I will never donate it, not even as an old Lady.

I agree with the one-use things, but I absolutely love my cherry pitter. It's small enough to throw in a drawer and it's awesome. 🤗
Oh, I have one too! I use it in the summer!
Same for my cherry pitter - I only use it once a year, but I process mountains of cherries for canning!

I make bread every week and pizza dough on Friday - why would I not keep my kitchen aid mixer?
Then you would definitely keep it! You use it, you keep it

What about 4 Pampered Chef brownie spatulas. Yes. I use them for so much more than brownies.
