I’m that way with ivory dish soap. I had skin allergies when I was young & mom wouldn’t let do bubble bath. But if I stayed at my grandma’s she would put 3 drops of ivory dish soap in the bottom of her big claw foot tub. It was wonderful.
KEEP the soap with the sentimental smell, especially since it's so small. You can even put it in your linen closet, or sock drawer to help carry the scent throughout the space. I kept a bottle of my mom's old perfume, and I am so happy I did; the smell brings me back to when I was little. I believe special scents, when possible, are a keeper. Scents can transport you back in time in a more powerful way than other tangible belongings :)
I lost my Mom nearly seventeen years ago and I still miss her every day. I had packed a large box of her things and brought them home with me when she passed. I’m in the midst of my own Swedish Death Cleaning now and periodically I find that I can let go of a few more of her things. BUT the one thing I know I will keep until my own time is up, is a partial bottle of her favorite perfume. 💙
I love that you take care of kittens. I am a foster mom.I currently have 4-1 year olds That just can't seem to get adopted. Now there's so many kittens it'll be hard again. I currently have a mommy and 3 babies 17 days old now. Thank you for helping kittens
I have a bar of soap I absolutely love the smell of. We don’t allow scents in our office, since it bothers some people, so I can’t use it most days. Instead, I keep that bar of soap in my pajama drawer. I get to smell it every night on my pajamas. Keep the great videos coming!
Love your hair. I have straight hair and it's so blah. I know curly isn't a walk in the park but it always looks interesting. It's a look unto itself and I like it.
I love the happy sky blue color in that bathroom. That is a great boost idea, sometimes I get distracted going to a different area in the middle of working on the first area.
Wavy hair girl here - can relate to the hair products - love the idea of the boost method, too - great for days when I have a nice chunk of time to get more done - and it is a season change, so there's that, too - love your videos!!
I saved one tiny blob of conditioner that was old when I got it from my mom in my teens, and it was SO good smelling & worked so well, I decided to save it to use before my wedding one day. I'm 38 and got married 6 years ago. I just threw that blob away last weekend ha ha ha! I had completely forgotten to use it before my wedding! (I also forgot deodorant... THAT was my something borrowed!!!) (The conditioner was Arbonne, I guess that used to be sold like Avon or Mary Kay? It was definitely packaged before the 2000s...)
I love your boost method! I have been hitting our basement pretty hard lately, expecting company. Going through the process of decluttering as a way to clean up the basement quicker, I was able to set aside quite a few items to donate. I have consignment accounts at a few second hand places in the area, so if one will not take my decor, I'll try another. I also drop off clothes and other household items at charity shops. So whichever direction I expect to take when running errands the next time I go out, I will pack up the car with as much as I can, and drop things off. I continually bring home empty cardboard boxes from work, so I have a ready supply for the next load going out. I can still run into snags with decluttering, but as you say, the more you do it, the stronger your 'muscles' become. I love the feeling of freedom I get from a cleaner area, an area more focused on my values at this point in time.
It is amazing how good I feel when I take a load to donate. I feel like I have lost 25 pounds in twenty minutes. Don’t get me started with how nice garbage day feels.
I love changing soap with the seasons. I've a Christmas scent and fall. Most of the year I have a lemon for the kitchen... I know some people can't deal with scents but for me they add to my home. And, not all scented soaps are the same! Some are way too saturated - no thanks.
An idea for that good smelling soap from your bathroom that brings you the memories put it in one of your drawers so it will make your clothes smell good and it doesn't take up much space in the drawer
Great advice in this video. I'll definitely follow it for my declutter sessions. I'm a huge Aveda fan too! I think you should send a photo to them of your luxurious locks. Your hair is a beautiful example of how top notch their products are🌱🐇
I have a bar of homemade, Lavender soap and just before my cousin died she gave me a crochet cloth and this bar of soap. I wrapped the 2 together and have them in my drawer .I just cannot get rid of it,,I smell it and I remember our last visit.
I don't use bar soap. I hate the mess it makes on the sink. But my great grandmother taught me to slip those, usually gifted, bars of soap in underwear drawers. It may not work in humid climates, but it works well in the UK.
As I'm watching & listening to you , I'm cleanup g off dining room table & putting g away Halloween & Fall decor (2024)/ plus i started a thrift store box. Got Halloween decorations from 3 rubber made containers to 2 containers for next year.
Thank you for sharing this very helpful & valuable video. You inspire meto do better. Particularly since my living situation has dramatically changed in the last 2 yrs. & I now have shared luving space with a roommate.
Robyn, I can soooo relate to smells that take you back in time!!! Paris by Yves Saint Laurent transports me back to shopping for it in Nordstroms in the late 80's, lol. I have some scents that give me flashbacks that are more sentimental, but that one is always such strong an association. Your soap thing isn't weird. I've found a dish washing liquid soap that smells so good I don't mind doing handwashing with it. Great video, thanks! Yay Swedish death cleaning!
Yardley's Lavender Soap. I try to keep a bar in my underwear drawer since that's a drawer I open frequently. But I can't use it as it dries my skin terribly. Also something called Florida Water soap. Smells wonderful. Horrible for my skin.
I use the spark joy for decor items without ties to family. I really appreciated my mother giving permission to get rid of the glassware and china if I didn't want it. I am now down to one 4 place setting and six wine glasses. My mother was an entertainer but I am not and will never be. My daughters also do not want any of this. I basically define the space I am willing to allocate for a category. The process is very iterative. When I downsized my Christmas decor, I took an expensive set to a Christmas white elephant and it was the item that many wanted and worked hard to get. I am not huge into seasonal decor so for Christmas I call my decor Christmas essence. You know the season is celebrated but it all fits into one box. I gave up on trees over 20 years ago. Here fresh greens to give the scent are kept in a vase. Not a choice for all and I appreciate others choices and happy I do not have them in my home.
I recently found your channel.I love it. You make it fun. One thing I noticed is that you don't use containers and bins in the drawers, but a lot of other channels do., Is this what you recommend?
You didn't have audio over the orange drain unclogger that you put back under the bathroom sink. I think you said it was the bomb. It is. I will never get rid of mine.
Suggestion: Wrap your Christmas soap in an old sock and put it in your underwear, sock, or pj drawer. That way you'll have the scent with you all year long.
I love cookbooks too but am tired of trying ones that look so promising and turn out to be duds. I feel like the best cookbooks are the ones from churches that are compiled together from all the church ladies. Think about it; they are going to put in their BEST recipes! I have started keeping my eyes open for those cookbooks at my local thrift store whenever I am browsing.
I would have five double jackets hooks one each , a light jacket and heavy each. One pair of boots each and one pair of sand shoes the rest out or in their bedroom, empty pockets check for washing
@Minimalist Home YAAASSS!! Thank you!! Your hair looks amazing!! When you talked about the dry to humid seasons, and all the fuzz that comes with curly hair, I was like - "I NEED to know her secrets!". I just recently found your channel and am LOVING it! Fellow RN/ADHD/mom of teen/minimalist ♡ I've decluttered a lot over the years, but recently started redoing the whole house again as my ADHD needs less. I'm taking your advice to do one spot each day, and my sanity is coming back! Your channel is so great to listen to while I work! ♡
@@MinimalistHome thank you so much! Can't wait to watch it! (Also, thank you for everything you've shared about minimalism and neurodivergence, you have been an incredibly helpful guide in my journey towards a simpler, more content life 😁)
Cleaned out the garden shed. We have a donation garden supply spot in town, so we loaded up the back of the Subaru with useful items we were done with and dropped off. We also dropped off some more clothing at the charity thrift shop. We called this our donation date and had a good time driving and talking. We came home and planted a bit more in the garden. We have to weekly sift through the shed and garage or it would be a tip.
I love listening to your podcast while.im.mindlessly decluttering about my home. Thanks for your content.
I have a little wood recipe box of my Grandmother's that smells like her home. I open it every once awhile to remember! Totally understand!
Yes, I get that!

Thank you!
Great advice! Definitely agree that once you declutter to get it out of your house ASAP! you feel so much lighter once you do.

Containers in the drawers will help with control of how much is in there and they go back in more neatly easily to find

My bathroom is so small I use a hand brush and dust pan to sweep. I bought a kneeling pad from the garden section at the store and it helps immensely

I suggest putting the bathroom item into boxes or baskets under the sink. Easy slide in and out like a drawer.
Ahhh, baskets are my enemy!
@@MinimalistHome 👌That explains it!
What was that long orange thing that went back under the sink?? Looked like a matchbox car race track accessory
Donating stuff after the family took what they wanted is what we did when my father passed and then again when my father-in-law passed.
Good strategy!

I like to limit vessels because they can attract clutter, but do what works for you
Is there a reason why you prefer to leave items loose in a drawer as opposed to having separate compartments?
It almost seems…messier? 😂
Have extras in a basket in the linen cupboard

That kids bathroom toiletries looks like our bathroom!!

Most teens dont have their own bathroom. I feel like its an american thing to have a bathroom for every bedroom.
I’m in Canada! I think newer and larger North American homes have more bathrooms though. 👋🏼
