LISBON TRAMS - 3. 26.Nov.2016. "Difficult Passing Place".

  • On Saturday 26th November 2016, I found this fantastic viewpoint to see some of the most impossible and craziest trams I've ever seen, on equally impossible and crazy tracks. At this squeeze-point, four trams negotiate the tiny tracks amid cars, tuk-tuks, and tourists. Tram number 28 is the legendary service that does this through the old Alfama district.

    I've been watching a number of the Lisbon tram videos and am amazed at how agile they are.

    Amazing how tight the spacing is and yet, it's a normal routine for this area. Really cool that service is frequent!

    I’m intrigued to know how the trams coming towards us changed lanes to go down hill? As I can see no switch point.

    • @SuperSiggiboy
      @SuperSiggiboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It miger be a passive switch, always switching traffic coming towards us down the hill, while still allowing traffic to pass the other direction. Passive switches are spring loaded and do not allow high speeds.

      That's true. However, the key thing is that no tram ever has to go UP the hill.
      The 28 operates in both directions, as we see. The 12 is a one-way loop and goes only in the direction we see.
      (Incidentally, the parking has been removed and a second track has recently been laid.)

    I still see it really amazing how it was possible to accommodate transportation technologies of the 20th century in cities that still keep tight and winding streets from the medieval era! It´s almost a miracle it works even with this traffic problem!

    Quando eu vejo os bondes(eléctricos) de Lisboa lamento que aqui no Brasil quase todas as linhas de bonde foram erradicadas. Seria bom ter bondes rodando pelos centros históricos de Salvador e São Luís que lembram muito Lisboa.

      Yeah it looks like there's plenty of room for two tracks in front of the white building on the left but I bet the owner screamed a lot for that consideration to allow street parking.

    • @haroldsmith45302
      @haroldsmith45302 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Pantographs are used on the straight-ish high-speed routes having greater clearances in the western section of Lisbon, but in the curvy narrow hill streets in eastern Lisbon, the pantos might snag on the buildings and their projecting architectural features, so trolley poles are used there.

    Wenn die Tramfahrer sie beachten, ist die Vorfahrt kein Problem - es gilt rechts vor links.
