      Branching Balance that’s true. I ended up doing the grooming and it took about 3 hours for washing, shaving, clipping his nails and cleaning out his ears. But honestly i think i might continue doing it myself with the help of a little sedation pills lol

    I'm a groomer of 10+ years & do weekly grooming videos on TH-cam. (I try to give positive criticism). Grooming is expensive & not easy to do at home, you have wonderful dog(s) to do this on! I tell everyone: Dry the dog 100% completely-- then use a de-shed/undercoat rake before shaving. Both drying & brushing will help guide a trimmer/clipper easier through their hair. I do use your "pinching" technique daily--but only when hair is completely DRY. When clipping through wet/damp hair, Clipper & Blade may get gunked up with wet hair. Touch ups can be seen quicker when the dog is fully dry. Great dog to show on video!

    • @CassiePutz
      @CassiePutz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nubiaavalos8430 It is all your choice, it's what works best for you and the dog. Cut before wash will help on dry time, but after drying it will show hair that wasn't clean enough to be cut, so you have to go over it again. For Golden retrievers, I recommend to wash, dry 120% then cut. Hope it helps =)

    Now we are in quarantine, I need to learn how to clip my dog🤣

  • @elleyarbrough4342
    @elleyarbrough4342 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    Pro tip: Golden Retrievers should never be shaved, even with a guard, unless there is a medical necessity for shaving. Goldens have a double down coat. The under layer keeps them insulated from heat and cold, the outer layer is longer and tougher and is water resistant. Therefore, their fur should never be shaved. Ever. Especially right before Winter. Also, you should never use clippers on wet fur. It causes hot spots, pulling and pinching. All grooming should be be done before the bathe and once the dog is COMPLETELY dry clean up any rough looking areas.

    • @northboundwithwarmth7990
      @northboundwithwarmth7990  4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Thank you for your feedback. However, this is not a golden retriever but a golden doodle. His hair is very similar to a poodle and our vet didn't have any issues with his haircut, I made sure I checked since he's got a mixed heritage. Thank you for interesting information and explanations tho! Knowledge sharing is always welcome here 🐕 🐩

    • @Beigebunnyhunny
      @Beigebunnyhunny 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Our vet also thinks it’s completely fine because our dogs are inside dogs. In theory, yes they need their double down. However dogs have been kept inside longer and longer and their shedding patterns no longer match the weather or season since we have heating and air conditioning! Lol I love this video, it’s super helpful and informative ☺️

    • @user-yt4id5np9f

    I liked. In Quarantine and need to trim my dogs. My only issue is with trimming them while the hair is wet, seems to pull on the skin a lot more. Perhaps dry first?

    • @northboundwithwarmth7990
      @northboundwithwarmth7990  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it depends on how thick/thin your dog's hair is + its breed etc.. For my dogs I give them a good wipe with a towel so that hair is only about 75% wet 🐕

    I can here due to the Coronavirus lock down which forced my regular groomer to close but when she reopened, she stopped grooming large dogs. Mine is a lab/retriever/border collie mix at 56 pounds. This was so very helpful! So informative. I feel like I can actually do this now. Plus, my dog would literally go into shaking fits and cry and cry to get groomed and this takes the stress off of him now. Thanks so much!

    The professional groomer I use for my dogs says that they never wash the dogs before the brush them. She says that you should always use the dematting and detangler tools first. The brush the entire dog. Then bathed then dry. Then cut clippers and if there are still some matted areas that the clippers won’t pass through, you can use scissors. Then clippers.

    Great video. I like the diagrams with the direction of the cuts. Would’ve liked to know what number you used on each part of the body.
    I’m going to try this on my dog. I was going about it all wrong. 🤦🏼‍♀️ My poor girl looks uh…. Not very good. 😒
    But the shorter fur is so much easier to find ticks on her!!! I just found 13 ticks on myself today and I wasn’t even the one laying in the grass all day!! So I’m excited about this for the summer. She’s older now and my late dog seemed so much happier when I shaved her toward the end of her life. So it’s time to shave my girl following your video and see how it goes. Thank you for this video. 😀🐾

    • @northboundwithwarmth7990

      Yes, more of the retriever there but shedding isn't bad at all! If I cut their hair short (like in my video), no hair at all for a few months. If I keep it growing long, then my saving grace is my neato robot vac daily + using a de-shedding brush once a month

      These dogs are mixed with poodle, so their coat is poodle-like curly... Not sure if this is a good technique on other breeds. Hope this helps!

    I want to start cutting my dogs hair; my question is for thick haired dog (she's small) would it be ok to start with a higher sized attachment to eliminate the thick coarse area then work down to a number one?

    • @northboundwithwarmth7990
      @northboundwithwarmth7990  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I only use attachment 1, just because I feel that it’s quicker that way. Plus I want their hair very short. The red dog in my video, Hunter, he got thick top coat and 1 under coat and it’s pretty easy to cut it. My blonde one, Stella, she got a very thick top coat and several layers of undercoat. So it takes much longer, going over and over the same spot 🙂 basically the more under coats dog has - the longer it will take

      I don't have any experience with cutting snout hair but when I want to trim my dogs' tails, I use scissors. I have two types, regular scissors for hair cuts (very sharp) and scissors that look like two combs (to even out straight lines). Hope this helps! 🙂

    I just wouldn't had put the dog on my kitchen table and cut his fur in the kitchen where I eat, that's why I do not eat from everyone 😁, but other than that she did an awesome job.

      Yes, I leave it damp because otherwise it flies all over the place but I guess it depends on the breed. I heard that professional dog groomers always dry it completely before cutting
