Gio Uktolseja was born in Amsterdam, grew up in Assen/Bovensmilde, and later made his home in Rotterdam. You guys may recognize Gio from Schorem💈❤️
Gio opened his shop in 2018 after finding the space while walking by it one day with his wife. “It was a beautiful open space and immediately thought, this is it. This is a place where we can really have a nice shop.”
It was empty from top to bottom and had been sitting vacant for around two years.
This shop has really been almost 25-years in the making, for as long as Gio has been in the industry. When starting out back in the mid-nineties, there was really only hairdressing so Gio learned cutting, styling, and coloring etc of hair. He started learning when he was 15, and by the time he was 17 he was working in a shop. Gio however wanted to focus on men’s hair.
Step inside the customer waiting area at the bottom of the shop that was designed to replicate Al Capone’s prison cell in Philadelphia. The rug on the floor and the couch is where Capone’s cell bed was.
Over time, Gio has added many of his personal touches to create a space where everybody can hangout with a drink or coffee. There is even a piano in the corner as Gio is a bit of a musician - so there is room for everybody to jam too! Gio brought in all the elements of what he’d like to see in a gentleman’s barbershop.
The shop is also a space where Gio celebrates his Moluccan family heritage. Books on Moluccan history and family photos decorate the walls.
Making the shop more personal is Gio’s gallery wall of family photos and memorable moments in his life. Throughout the shop are hints of Gio’s very interesting personal story but Gio says, “if you really want to know my story then you need to sit in my chair to really hear it.” ❤️

Love the care Gio takes in his process. Does anyone know...every now and again I notice a barber will put the back of his hands gently on the clients shoulders before removing the hot towels, is it to not startle the client incase they fell asleep and or simply notify them that they will touch the towel on their face again?
Yeah i think so. I also noticed the video with “city barbers” the guy doing that as well.
I think I saw it explained a long time ago but if memory serves it's just a gentle warning because of temperature differences, especially if they're relaxed or dozing off

I love how’s there no talking. Of course, don’t get me wrong, I love talking to my barber catching up on our current personal life’s. Although sometimes after catching up, just the sound of the blade putting in work against my beard grains. Much love , this video was awesome. We stay face shaving.

A shavette shave than a DE razor cleanup?? I e never seen that in a barbershop and I love the idea as that’s how I shave, I use a Feather Artist Club SS for most of my shaves, but with my weird sideways neck growth I always needs to use a safety razor to cleanup the hard to get areas for a super smooth BBS…. Gio seems like a true master of his craft and this was a pleasure to watch.

Man hair cut harry really gets around. Was not that long ago he was just near me when he was in Santa Fe. This is a really great Vid Harry. I feel you had a bad run at late. This one is a keeper.
