  • ►If your Volvo's suspension is feeling "bouncy" or "loose," it can likely be attributed to blown or worn shock absorbers. The purpose of a shock absorber is to dampen the recoil of the coil spring as your car travels over dips and bumps in the road. When your shock absorbers start to fail, you may notice noise from the front end over bumps, squeaks, visible leaks around the shocks, and overall poor handling of the vehicle. Jay Van Gorden is here to walk you through the steps needed to remove and replace the rear shocks on your Volvo P3 chassis vehicle.

@@fcpeuro Finally I received the rear shocks today.
Thank God for the gorgeous weather here in Florida.
I was able to replace the shocks with one little catch.
The mounting plate is not so easy to remove and put back since the rod is spinning in the shock body.
You gotta have a impact wrench for that, luckily I have one.
2 hours work saved me $400 compared to Goodyear quote.
      Thanks again.

i hope its not too late, but NEVER BUY A VOLVO!!! total crap cars. lots more reliave and safe vehicles that are not DESIGNED to frustrate the owner out of DIY repairs. if you have made a vovlo purchase take it as a lesson and get rid of it while you can. NEVER BUY A VOLVO, take it from someone who has lots of experience with them.

I bought a 2017 XC90 and nothing but problems. Major engine issues at 30,000 miles, rear squirter doesn't work, O2 sensors went bad in 2 years, Air conditioner doesn't work. Be prepared to have a never ending check engine light notification. I can't sell this car fast enough.

Much nicer design on the upper mount when compared P-80's cars. The bolts extend down to the tire and they get rusty and brake when you attempt to removed them.

A different video said you needed to prime the shock before installing. Is that the case? Doesn't seem like it would hurt anything, but also wasn't sure if it was necessary/beneficial.

Similar question as another guy and kind of need an answer quickly. Mine has a standoff as part of the assembly. Bout an inch tall, fits over the center treads. I wasn't paying attention when I took this off. Where does it go? Under the boot washer? Between the boot and mount? Under the nut inside the mount? I can't find a good picture that answers this.

Thanks for the video! I have 4c struts on my 2010 xc70. The replacementprocedure looks the same to me. Do you know if you need to recalibrate the 4c suspension in Vida in order for the new shocks to work properly?

    • @fcpeuro
