I love this volg ❤ I've been in the US for over 44 years, and I was born in Cambodia as well. She is explaining exactly how I feel about life and living in the United States. Nothing against the US, but things have changed quite a bit. I realized after the pandemic that life is so unpredictable. So thats why i too want move and retire in Cambodia. Thank you so much for the vlog. As well, your guest brings up a lot of good points about the Khmer culture and people. I love it!❤
I share, almost, the exact same story and sentiment.. 44 yrs in the US, I’m now 52 yrs old and I am so ready to get the Eff out of the states. There’s nothing here for me other than my family and my son, who’s in college! For myself, the American dream, is actually a nightmare! I will say, I strongly disagree with her concerning men being a provider in the US! I can see that she has adopted the modern western women mindset, it’s too bad. As far as men and women go, I think men are not the problem in the US, men are doing their part, it’s the modern western mindset of a women that is failing in America, not the men!
I came to US to make money and have better future for my kids but not for a whole life so I am going back soon for sure before I retire Every word she said are absolutely right and I agree 100%
I'm here from Cambodia as well. I really appreciate her n like listening her speaking English because she was speaking English very well. Thank you for your incredible kind-heartedness.
I love what she is saying as a US Military Veteran I have been to many countries have seen many aspects what what’s she is saying and I myself have a second home in the Philippines because my my wife is from there I feel safer there then in the states it’s so stress free and everyone treat me like I’m family and as long as you treat them good you will be treated good much love to her and to you my brother may you all continue to be blessed

This woman is so true to what she's saying. I've lived in Seattle Washington for 45 years of my life. And now I've finally came back to Thailand. And it's not so much different from Cambodia and Thailand. I literally will not go back to Seattle ever again.
Aw yes it is! I have lived in Cambodia and was more than happy to leave! I have now been living in Thailand for almost 4 years now and I like much better. Cambodia and Thailand are very very different.

@zeroyou3060 Good luck with your retirement plans. We are getting tired of international long flights and we also have international airport lounges membership with priority pass card. We would highly recommend it!
Affordable is the proper term. If you are retired and living on a small fixed income with a big mortgage and taxes, then the choice is obvious for many of us. Your lifestyle is not the same as when you were earning income from work. Cambodia offers you the privilege to live at large 👑 on your golden years.
@amongroblox4788 I'm not sure about the young woman who left America to Cambodia. We achieved our financial freedom very early and we could live anywhere if we wanted. Again, we love Cambodia but not to live there!
She is liking it because she one of them. When she walk down the street no one pay her any attention because she look like shes a native. Far different for foreigners who look different.
yup. she is there from ancestry and has family in Cambodia. Foreigners are usually alienated, and it will be hard to assimilate into society without learning the language, with her being Khmer-American, it will be easier for her to migrate, find work, and assimilate into society. These expats and digital nomads don't tell you that most live short-term and make the best out of it. Short-term living is possible if you have savings and a plan to get there. Long-term, you better marry or have insane work skills where a multinational company will keep you for a while.

It's time and money that made you grounded because technically she's still working making the usa money for her to enjoy the real quality of life of freedom and cheaper cost of living on Cambodia vs cost of living in usa
I’m moving to the Philippines from Southern California next month and my partner and I plan on traveling through South east Asia for a year. I can’t afford California anymore, my property taxes doubled the electricity doubled and the government’s on all levels are just revenue agencies taking from the working and giving to the lazy drug addicted. Why work if everything is free. Food, medical, housing and cash. Why work 🤷🏻♂️. I just turned 49 and I’m liquidating and retiring , i’ll work until I’m dead in the United States, and they’ll still try to get money out of me somehow even after death. I love the United States it’s the most beautiful and diversified anywhere and I’ll definitely be back for a road trip vacation with my wife.
I currently live in Seattle, love the weather. Hope for lots of rain in January, going snowboarding at snoqualmie pass with the kids. I don’t chase the money, so i only work 25 hours a week. Going to Thailand next week for ten days, budget $2000 usd for spending money.
She isnt wrong about it being a mental state as my x wife always wants more and ended up screening up her own situation and almost got everything she wanted but without the virrue of patience, now has to start over
It’s very true that in our Khmer culture always teaches children don’t ever be a beggar, if worse comes some of our people would ask for help first and work to pay back in a latter day ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Sure...just sell items until early morning and go to school before 8am. And keep excuses to your teachers why you fall asleep in your morning class...had that experience...
There is one problem with this sort of mentality. The very people leaving the countries they no longer like are part of the reason why the countries are that way. Instead of staying and changing it for the better, they decide to go somewhere else where it is "untainted" and bring their ways. Eventually when too many of them all do the same thing, you just brought California over to Cambodia or bring New York over to Thailand etc. This doesn't bode well for the place that is so "peaceful and safe and easy going". A good example is like, You move into a new house, but over time you ruined it and the house now sucks. You decide to then move into someone else's house who kept theirs nice and clean all these years. But if you couldn't keep your own house clean then what does that mean for the next house you moved into because it's so nice and clean? I'm not saying all western migrants going to more old fashioned laid back countries are bad, but in principle, if you think about this mentality, it's not going to work. If America is so great, then why do they want to move to poor countries and go back to living the way it was 50 years ago? You wanted modernity. You wanted independence. You wanted everything you got in America and you got it. Now if you ruined it, why should that be fault of all these pure innocent poor countries that didn't do what America did and now y'all want to move into their nice cushy paradise lands? Let these native peoples have their fun too at the cost of their own lands just like Americans got to do. Just some food for thought.
She said California and I was like yeah of course she wouldn’t want to be there……… she should’ve left Cali and went to a red state somewhere in rural area and she would’ve been fine. 🤷🏻♂️
Everyone has to pick and choose where it would be better to live and enjoy life. I grew up in Cambodia and I knew Cambodia well. Life can be changed instantly for good and bad. I had lived through many changes. If it’s good enjoy it while you can, it’s bad, you’re on your own and it can be costly to pay.
Hi Srey Sros, you've earned my respect and would like to connect with you as friends. I'm really resonated with your positive mentality based on this interview. I'm sold on moving to Srok Khmer and are willing to give up my six figures salary for an adequate earnings there until retirement.
Of course she has the money to buy and live the western lifestyle in Cambodia due to the money generated by her business in the USA. Her lifestyle and said freedom and happiness would vanish very quickly without the money from the USA.
I see things a bit differently. Towards the end of the podcast, she talks about the enduring grit she developed from facing earlier challenges in her life. If the business hadn’t done well, she likely would have adapted and found alternative paths with a positive attitude, especially if it involved a Western lifestyle.
@@beew9743that’s not the point. The point is that people that are successful in America are leaving and taking those US dollars out of America to live elsewhere because living in America is not what it use to be. Nothing wrong with taking advantage of the economics of America and then taking advantage of a more peaceful prosperous life in another country. It just goes to show that America’s smart and well off people are continuing to leave the country. That says a lot about the direction the country is going and has been going for years to get to where we are at now. I am also one of those American born citizens that chose to live over seas. Though my woke as a contractor is from many different companies all over the world and is the same work I would be doing if I lived in the US. Except instead of spending my money on the US I’m spending it in Vietnam and other countries
I'm Cambodian live in US over 40 years. Yes the hustle and bustel life is none stop but I am used to it LOL I'm okay with that. I have no reason to move to my beautiful Country all of my family are here in the US plus I don't speak Khmer fluent I will be at lost for sure. It makes sense for her to moved closer to her family ( i would too) she doesn't have family here. I'm happy here in the US. Maybe one day will visit Sok Khmer 🥰
Cambodia isn't cheap if you choose to goto the pricier places. Eg. If you goto the tourist spots, undoubtedly it will be costlier and for a small portion as it's catered to the western perspective and they try to make it appealing visually in what is considered and deemed as desirable to their visual cortex. 😂 However, you can acquire the same meal, better sensual pleasures on your taste buds via the smaller restaurants that cater to the locals. There, you can eat for a whole month what you would spend for a day at a pricey restaurant. If you seek imports like red bull, expect to pay a premuim for it and only available at places like Aeon mall. One time i took a tuk tuk from central Takeo to Riverside and back just to buy a coffee. Hahah definitely paying a premium for that entitlement.
I live in Seattle, Washington. I love it here. No place is better than Seattle. This girl must stayed most of the time when it rains. No matter rain or sun, i am out and about. Plus Seattle don't rain that much. The girl is exaggerating!
I used to live in Seattle. It does rain a lot. It's more colder there than the south. I love all the nature there, but not the wet cold feel. I think if you love the sun than Seattle is not the place to live. Maybe more down south. Cambodia is tropical so Texas, Florida, Tennessee will probably be better

Good that she's happier in Cambodia. Seattle is sh*t. Crime and weather. Being a single mom is not a flex. Still not socially accepted in Cambodia. They're going to keep asking what happened. Other than that enjoy Cambodia. Many are moving overseas now.
The good thing about Cambodia is, while it is a frontier market, there is a lot of room and opportunity for growth. Probably, Cambodia's best days are ahead of it. United States peaked before 2008 and has been struggling ever since. While the USA is a country with incredible resources, it has some difficult moments ahead given large debt and aging population. The crazy thing to me is that the USA, similar to Japan, had great finances only a few decades ago and went deep into debt for no clear benefit to its people.

That’s a Well spoken , educated , strong independent khmer women
This interview was so good, and it inspired me to follow my dreams and move back to my wife home country of Dominican Republic... I truly love the culture and the slower lifestyle.
OMG she is gold.
Wow. How many cups of coffee did she have before you started. (Did she inhale?)
I currently live in Seattle, love the weather. Hope for lots of rain in January, going snowboarding at snoqualmie pass with the kids. I don’t chase the money, so i only work 25 hours a week. Going to Thailand next week for ten days, budget $2000 usd for spending money.
I live in the Philippines part time.
Its a better quality of life for me and I'm happier in SE Asia and the Phil
She isnt wrong about it being a mental state as my x wife always wants more and ended up screening up her own situation and almost got everything she wanted but without the virrue of patience, now has to start over
It’s very true that in our Khmer culture always teaches children don’t ever be a beggar, if worse comes some of our people would ask for help first and work to pay back in a latter day ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Sure...just sell items until early morning and go to school before 8am. And keep excuses to your teachers why you fall asleep in your morning class...had that experience...
Life in the USA is tough 2024 I'm thinking of moving to Asia to have a better quality of life after making enough coins to potential retire in Asia
Easy for her to say since she doesn’t live in Cambodia. If her mom never left Cambodia she would be in totally different situation.
Expats who live there several years know the reality.
Im falling in love with this lady she loves taking a relaxing walk
"Khmer people - We are hard workers, we're DREAMERS! We are not complacent!" This statement defines Khampuchea's DNA 🇰🇭. Thank you for sharing 🙏🙏🙏
I enjoy visiting Cambodia! Once there I have no worries or thoughts of my stateside life.

Orr-kun kmeuy srey that you're speaking good about Cambodia 🇰🇭
Sounds like she needed to get out of the CA hell hole. But not every state is California.
She lived in Washington for 20 years . She Visited a beautiful and affluent area of California ( Santa Barbara and Montecito ) on her way out
Great interview. Lao and Cambodian are pretty similar. Good for you sis!
I totally agree with her. I’d move to Cambodia
Hi Srey Sros, you've earned my respect and would like to connect with you as friends. I'm really resonated with your positive mentality based on this interview. I'm sold on moving to Srok Khmer and are willing to give up my six figures salary for an adequate earnings there until retirement.
I live in Seattle and not depressed… disagreed
She's caught up right now in escaping her problems in the US and being high on her new life in Cambodia .
My health seems alot better every time i go to csmbodia than when im in Australia.
Why is that?
That's why i love Khmer people and culture
Of course she has the money to buy and live the western lifestyle in Cambodia due to the money generated by her business in the USA. Her lifestyle and said freedom and happiness would vanish very quickly without the money from the USA.
It is very true. All of them will come back very fast without American dollars.
I do agree as well.
Incredible journey, you inspired me. Good bless you.
God bless her!
She says the opposite of the reality is
Cambodia : 6 months rain and 6 month dry
Cambodia : Almost always 30°C and higher
She is Great. Wish her the Best.
escaped america to live in paradise you can call home. so nice!
Congratulations of making that culture decision. Best of luck for you.
I'm glad the noise cancellation cut out her laughter hehe
I live in Seattle, Washington. I love it here. No place is better than Seattle. This girl must stayed most of the time when it rains. No matter rain or sun, i am out and about. Plus Seattle don't rain that much. The girl is exaggerating!
Only visited a few times but I really enjoyed it . I dressed for rain so when it did it was no big deal . Beautiful City and region
There is no such thing as bad weather, there’s only wrong clothing
Born in Cambodia, left as ababy during the Khmer Rouge regime....lived in the US most of my life and used to the lifestyle here now and i don't think i can go back and live in Cambodia...
We love you kmeuy ❤❤
Hello Austin thank you for this vidéo, i am a cambodian woman living Paris. i would love to meet the américain cambodian lady, i will be in sieam reap next july but Can plan to visit Phnom Penh and meet her for a coffee I love her mindset and wish i could move and live there one day as well.
Beautiful conversation❤
"Time is the most precious commodity"
Truth !!
Living in Cambodia for retire people ok but to raise kid in Cambodia I don’t think is a good idea, kid can’t go far in life in term of education.
From Cali... agree with what she said.
What’s the best city to go to in Cambodia?
Great Woman……Strong Spirit.
I like the way you let people talk
in this life is never a mistake if you are happy,
