Thank you for this! Sitting tall is everything and you know how to properly market this subcompact SUV, a Fiat 500 alternative that oddly also sits tall like an SUV and is no longer produced in the U.S.
i am a teenager looking to car shop with my mom soon and i swore i would never get a kia soul because of the boxy design but the more rounded off, softer look of the 2021 is so much nicer and cuter. i’m falling in love with this car 😭😭
My mom HATED the look of the previous generation Soul, and then I pulled in her driveway with my 2020 Soul and she loved it. The new design still sticks to its (very successful) roots, but it does offer a modern look that I think appeals to more people. All the best in your shopping!

I dig the idea and approach to reviewing base models. Not many people on TH-cam do this.
Yeah, I like to go in-depth with every trim. More people buy trims that aren't the top trim than the very top one, but reviewers like more to talk about (It's easier to make videos when there is a lot to talk about). We try to focus on giving everyone the most in-depth review that we can, and we'll happily pull a base model back in again if there are a few questions, and people want to take a second look. I have a 2020 Soul EX(USA) and love it. Also better mileage than sticker. Usually 34+MPG w auto stop/start (sticker says 31MPG. Love your videos

Cool to see a video about a base trim level. Very rare! We bought this exact model year, trim level, and color Soul a few months ago. Coming from a base trim 2016 Honda Fit and a 1990 Toyota Pickup, I’ve not felt short changed by the base trim features. We don’t care about tech, soft surfaces, or cool lighting. We just don’t drive enough that creature comforts are worth the extra cost. The back seat, nice ride height, and cargo space were key selling features for the Soul and are the same at all trim levels. No need to pay more for things we don’t want if we don’t have to!
Anyway, love the videos. I’m in the States so can’t buy from you but you’ve sold me on Kias and Hyundais.
I love doing base model videos! To me, they're really interesting because someone had to make a decision of what to leave off the car. I don't always agree with those decisions, but I agree with you that there are a lot of people who don't need or want all of the features, and for me, making a video for those people is just as fun as making a video on a top of the line video. I'll continue making more and more video on base, mid-level, and top-of-the-line vehicles. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Hi Ryan Cooper, I need to put a 6 ft by 24 inch and 3.5 tall shelving system in the cargo area. Would it fit?
@@barbieeden1597 I think the 6ft length would be tough. You’d probably need to keep the rear hatch up and secure the child with some rope and/or bungees.

I have a 2020 Soul LX with the 6-speed manual. The short gearing helps with whatever acceleration a gutless 2.0 L engine can provide. I really like it, but I previously had a 2011 Soul ! with the 4-speed tiptronic. It had the nice sound system that I miss.
The newest model is available with a fantastic Bose Audio system, but only on the top trim.
I just got mine in gray 2021 LX and I love mine coming from a 2007 PT cruise

How's the soul on gas mileage, noise inside car driving on the and driving on bumpy roads?
@@ayyb6789 We have several vehicles with this engine and transmission combination, and they're known for excellent fuel economy compared to other vehicles in the class. I find the noise to be fine, and the ride is a little firm because the car is designed to be nimble and secure in emergency maneuvers, but it's always comfortable.
Why don't they come with an Aux connection? I like to connect my phone and my ipod to my car at the same time
14:30 Thanks for getting in the trunk to show how much weight the cargo floor can bear! I was wondering if it could support a few stacks of pavers. Looks like it's possible.
Would also love to know if you can fit a 8' or 10' 4x4 treated wood into the Soul (fit diagonally with the passenger seat tilted flat and one end of the wood resting on the dashboard). I was able to fit 5 pieces of 8' 4x4 treated wood into an old Honda Fit for a garden project.
I feel like if you could fit it into the Fit, that the Soul would work too. The Soul should be a little bit wider.
The reason honda fit can fit 8feet long stuff is because the front passnger seat can fold almost flat. so your 8 feet stuff go all the way to the dashboard. That is unique for honda fit. That is true magic seat. I do not believe most car you can fold front seat flat.

Since the Lx model of the Kia Soul does not come with fog lights, can I order them from the factory at a later date?

I'm thinking about getting a soul as my first car so I searched best forst cars but I didnt see this car on the list. I just thought this is a great first car for learner drivers because of the car size and price. Should I get this as my first car ?
When my kids start to drive, they'll be driving my Soul as their first car. So I think it's an excellent first car!

I would like to get the 2021 LX with manual transmission. I don't think that it comes with Sirius XM. Does anyone know? I was going to get a 2018 2017 something or other but I can get the LX for just under $18K with a stick. I had a 2015 Limited Edition Soul with mood lighting that beat to the music. I liked it. More than that, I loved it. I took the 18 inch wheels off and put really nice 16 inch black spoke wheels on for winter.
I can confirm that you can't get Sirius XM in the lower trim levels of the Kia Soul. You can get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay though, so if you have a decent data plan, you can stream Sirius XM through the app, right in the dash.
Can you do a comparison between the Seltos LX fwd and the Kia Soul EX since they’re the same price point?
Yes! I'd like to do this again. We've done it in the past, but currently, with inventory being the way it is right now, we may not be able to do that right away, but that's definitely a comparison that I'd like to do for the current model year.

Very in depth video about the car. Only thing you missed was the ground clearance.
Interesting. Ground clearance isn't something that most people ask about on a fwd vehicle. I list it semi-regularly on our AWD vehicle videos. I believe this Soul has 6.7 inches of ground clearance. The previous generation had less.

Fuel efficiency information can be found at www.kia.ca The Electric Kia Soul will be the most efficient to run, but they have a higher upfront cost.

Actually yes! The Soul does very well in resale value and has won multiple awards in the past for top resale value in its class.

You forgot to mention the S (Sport) model. That is actually the next trim up from the base LX. It offers better safety features and a power driver's seat for just over 20,000.
We're based in Canada, so we don't have an S model. We have an EX model which sounds similar to what you're describing. I've reviewed that model in the past and will cycle it through regularly.
Does this model has backup camera?
Yes, every car sold in Canada for 2021 requires a back-up camera.
Man, I wanted this in a manual transmission. But I drive too much to not have cruise control. My 2019 Forte had it in the base stick shift.
As much as I want the manual transmission to stick around... we had the Forte5 GT in a manual transmission for an entire model year and didn't sell a single one. Manuals are dying because people aren't buying them.

Most people stream their music from a single device (phone and audio together on one device) but the 10.25" screen in the higher trim lines do allow you to pair two bluetooth devices at the same time. You could pair your phone for calls and music, and your secondary device for just music.

Has Kia addressed the problem with the 2.0L engines? I have a 2017 Soul+ and had my engine sieze at 83k miles; I just got my car back last week with a new engine, covered by my extended warranty, thankfully. When I searched online, there seems to be an issue. I love the Kia vehicles, but now I'm wary.
This is a different engine in this vehicle than in previous Kia Souls.
I prefer this over Hyundai Venue👌🏼
Yeah, it just depends on what features mean the most to you.
People warn me don’t get the Kia Soul cvt version ?
CVT's used to be TERRIBLE transmissions. That's why, for years, Kia didn't offer one. I think people who are warning you not to get one are of the belief that there hasn't been any improvement with these transmissions over the many years that they have been around. I would have no fear of getting a Kia with this transmission, and the side benefit is you get to save on fuel costs.

This is not an LX base model. Base model doesn't have heated seated or navigation
This is an LX base model. We film in Canada, and our model has heated front seats. You're correct that it doesn't have Navigation, but it has wireless Android Auto and Wireless Apple CarPlay, and that means that you can use that big screen for Google Maps, Apple Maps, and many other navigation apps. For the most part the vehicles are similar between the U.S. and Canada, but there are some differences.
@@BrantfordKia would I have to buy a receiver to get google maps? Because it only speaks to me with the directions through the speakers that's all.
@@scottfromboston8837 I'm not sure what to tell you. You may want to check with your dealer to see if there's something that they can do. Maybe it's unavailable in the U.S. but in Canada it would just work.
