    I love that the accessory and parts industries are making replacement parts that LOOK like the old parts but have new, solid-state reliable guts in them.....

    Steve . You genuinely surprised me with that one ! I would have made a safe bet it would have been a Tiger ! So why the 1972 British number plate ? That did puzzle me ! And l know what's going back in my "e"type when l put it back together ! Thanks Steve. Short but sweet !

    Great looking car, I have to agree with some of the other replies. It's a 1971/72 British number plate, and 1972 was the last year I believe that you could use that type of black number plate with silver or white numbers and letters. Great channel, it's nice seeing so many British cars in your collection.

    That was a nostalgia trip. I had a '53 TD in Old English White, with steel wheels. Unfortunately, the threads for the screws holding down the carb. domes had worn out, so pre-start check was to look for (and if necessary, replace,) loose screws. If I didn't, I'd get a smell of gas and oily streaks from the louvres on the right side as the tops came loose. The scariest moment was when a top fell off completely, and jammed the steering. (Fortunately while almost stationary.)

    Great as always except for one thing. At the end of the video when you go for the drive, I think the most of the people here watching would rather listen to the sound of the engine and watch you change through the gears.

      Was on the car when I got it. No idea where they got the plate.

    • @frglee
      @frglee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its not on the UK number plate database on the DVLC. It wouldn't be the original number plate, so it may have been put on the car in place of a valuable original number plate which was sold off the vehicle. It hardly matters on such a beautiful car registered and used in the USA though.

    • @visionsofhere3745
      @visionsofhere3745 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ThisWeekWithCars It can't be a legal UK registration as it's illegal to have a registration number newer than the car it's fitted to. Definitely UK plates though.

    I thought the solid state didn't make the click noise, but I see they still do. I always rely on that click noise to warm me if the needles are not sealing or other issues. Nice to know the new solid state pumps still have that noise. I assume it goes quiet once the pressure is made.

  • @jplacroix461
    @jplacroix461 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Steve Very nice TD! To your knowledge do they make a solid state SU pump for all MG models (and other LBCs) or only for the T-series MGs? Cheers, JP

    Darn! Steve, I was hoping that when you activated the new solid state fuel pump -- it would surprise you with three whooping noises to indicate "on."
    Lucky you to have one of these MG beauties. In the early 1970's I remember they were starting to become scarce but not yet cost-prohibitive.
    I settled for a TR-3B instead. Was likewise a ton of fun to drive.

    My favourite MG Steve, apart from the MGC GT, your one looks like a 1972/73 going by the number plate. nice one mate.

    • @robj2704
      @robj2704 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had a '68 MGC roadster that was originally blue. When I restored it in the mid-80's painted it BRG. There were two distinct BRG's at that time so I had to make sure I was painting it the correct BRG for the time period. It had leather interior (maybe naugahyde seats with red piping- don't remember well). Loved the 6 cylinder Austin Princess engine that sounded like the Austin Healey six; almost vertical banjo steering wheel, also like a Healey. Also had knock-off wire wheels.
      Surprisingly, an Englishman, touring the States, saw it and had to have it. Sold it to him and he had it container-shipped to England. Could say it went home again.
