Dear John, thank you for your excellent video. I am restoring my 1976 roadster that was sitting dead in the garage for 4 years. The fuel pump did not work so I did exactly what you demonstrated in the video and it started pumping again. Better even later in the day I got the engine running after 4 years of rest. Great fumes and a great sound! Thanks, Peter
great video. car refused to start. realised my pump wasn't working. watched a video on how to get it off and I was going to pop a new one on.. saw your video and decided I'd give it a go.. I am not mechanical minded and I found your video spot on. I took it apart and put it back together again within 30 mins.. as I say I'm not mechanically minded.. you've saved me £100 and taught me something to boot. much appreciated
Thank You John! So glad you put this on ten years ago . The SU pump in my Austin Healey stopped working after years of storage. Now that you told me how to properly adjust the point gaps I realize why! Merry Christmas!
thank you for doing this video. i had cleaned my morris minor points before. but never stripped the pump . and now having followed your video my old pump is now working fine. cheers.
Excellent! I appreciate the speed. I'm bound to be watching this a few times today. (Oh, how I wish I'd put my pump back together after I first took it apart last fall!)
fantastic as always. always dreaded doing stuff like this but John, you make everything so straightforward i managed to do all of that in twenty minutes. still gonna go get a new pump though, the points are down to a nub.
First, this is a perfect example of how a video should be, that is, straight to the point and fast. There's way too much talking and faffing around on most you-tube videos. Second, thanks to this video, I have just fixed the SU twin pump on my Bentley and saved myself £250. Very many thanks. (I can now clear the kitchen table...)
Thanks, I remembered the basics, but over the last 20 years, I lost the specifics about point gaps, etc. My '60 Saab 93F thanks you...or, at least, this is the next problem I know about.
Brill; about to resurrect the old pump to prime the swirl-pot for the injection pump... sure to need the points cleaning after nearly 10 years of no use. Thx for the vid, John.
Thanks a bunch! I have struggled with my now only light occasionally used '78 B Roadster (30k miles from new). I have been through the solenoid tapping phase and was lining up for a full change, but strikes me the points are probably just dirty!! Will be brave and take a closer look now!
@anto1191 Watch the clip again with the exploded diagram from the manual in front of you. All wll become clear. John - you are a legend. Thank you for continuing to post such useful videos.
Hi, thanks for your videos. I have problems with my 1973 MGB it is throughout gasoline into charcoal canister and lakes, but I do not know what to do. Could you please advise what to do?.
hi john this may seem obvious to you but when i refit my pump (64 mgb) do i have to make sure the holes in the banjo bolt and the inlet are lined up with their respective pipes? thanks for a great video, wish i'd watched it before i'd taken my fuel pump off but at least it was a learning curve - tony
Another gem. Was it really necessary to dismantle the entire pump just to clean the points? I just take off the bakelite cap and use one of my wife's nail files to clean the points in situ.
John I need help. My fuel pump works I have a 1979 MGB original owner. The problem I have is it's not getting power. I just stopped one day and so I have looked for the the fuse or the wire that feeds the pump and other than seeing the wire that comes into the trunk of the car I can't seem to tell the origin or the location of the fuse to change it out. If you could help with a video on that it would be fantastic.
When I untwisted the diaphragm 6 brass nuts fell out. I cannot see where they came from or how they fit back. No nuts shown on this video. Does anyone know how to put them back?
i take it you now know they tuck under the flap on the diaphram. i used a credit card to push them in as i was mating the two halves together. as they slid to the edge getting caught between both parts of the pump.
couldn't follow any of your vid can i suggest a white surface or more light to work with and have a fixed camera you know what you are doing its a shame you don,t pass on your knowledge more clearly.
Good stuff! 15 years later, would love to see an updated video with better camera work, lighting etc. So much useful info here.

my morris minor is not ticking, so ordered a new points set and a diaphragm, will give it a go as never done anything like this either!
Thank you very much for this video. It was crucial in my being able to get my '75 MGB fuel pump working again.
Excellent! I appreciate the speed. I'm bound to be watching this a few times today. (Oh, how I wish I'd put my pump back together after I first took it apart last fall!)
AWEsome John! You just saved me about 3 hours. FYI, this pretty much applies to a 1980 MGB too. THANKS!
You are great, with your advice and experiences, Thank You very much

Safety FAST, emphasis on fast. I love the imports because almost everything can be worked on and is not throwaway.

Thanks that was very helpful

Im glad im not the one putting it back together.

Hi john, what if it’s a solid state has no point? What could be the problems? My fuel pump part number is APX 1307? Thanks!
Does anybody know what became of John Twist?
why cant the same pump be used as we used in water coolers?
Good information but it would have been MUCH better if you had bothered to focus the camera!
When I untwisted the diaphragm 6 brass nuts fell out. I cannot see where they came from or how they fit back. No nuts shown on this video. Does anyone know how to put them back?
sorry it was nine brass washers.
i take it you now know they tuck under the flap on the diaphram. i used a credit card to push them in as i was mating the two halves together. as they slid to the edge getting caught between both parts of the pump.
Hmm, 1979 MGB fuel pump did not work after the trip to the body shop. Power is OK. Replaced with solid state, still no pumping. (sigh)
i can do faster if i had one lol and thanks i never knew there was solenoid fuel pumps
Dear John thank s for your explanations but you went tiny whiny too fast could not keep up
