As the owner of 6 Vw’s and love every one of them I understand your frustration. I am always looking to learn about them and have learned a lot from watching your videos. I will say I have used more colorful language sometimes than I have ever heard you use. I just wanted to let you know I really appreciate all the knowledge you put out and the little tricks and work-around that saved me a lot of headaches.
They said same thing, but the only rational reason I have is that I'm a little far away... about 2 hours or so. I think the other guy was much closer and more available.... believe it or not I have a backlog here of about 3 to 6 months! Once people heard the Duckman wanted to take in viewer cars for content, there's been a line since! I'm grateful for whatever force put that in motion. ❤
I love the electric pumps... only problem I ever had was the wire wiggled loose one my Fastback. It was on the interestate so that was kinda fussy, but in under 2 mins it was fixed.
@@DuckmanCycles I’m actually excited about switching over to the electric. A lot of the newer, mechanical fuel pumps have a harder or I should say firmer diaphragm now which kicks the pressure up.
I haven't messed with the newer mechanical ones much, so that's news to me. But in the past I have learned that pressure can be reduced by raising the pump up with a couple gaskets. Nonetheless.... I still prefer electric!
@@DuckmanCycles oh, yeah, no doubt, you can reduce the pressure. But I’m very excited about doing electric. I like to clean up the engine compartment a little bit too.
@@donaldhalls2189 That could be the case, or the guy could have just been so dumb he didn't know the difference.... I mean, he couldn't get it running and gave up, right? LoL
Sounds to me like the owner got taken, had a friend who had his duel port 1600 "tuned" up and when he got it back it ran terrible, the nechanic replaced his delorattos with cheap chinese carbs. Turns out delorattos are collectable n the mechanic knew he could get big bucks for the originals . Luckily duckman, the owner brought it back to you, someone whose honest and compassionate about the veedubs. My friend got his carbs back but it was a Lil greasy as to how he did it. Bottom line, if you got a mechanic that knows his stuff,STICK WITH HIM lol. Great video duck man and a very valuable lesson learned
Tough to say, but might have been... he could have also just been an idiot, he couldn't get it running right anyway, wouldn't surprise me if he didn't even know what he had. LoL!
I've come across a few people that had trouble with their car, " ow,fuel gauge dosent work but it has fuel " after checking the power to pump etc put fuel in it away it goes, glad you found the problems, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Crazy; whoever was messing with the car before didn’t really seem to know what they were doing. Not sure if I’ve mentioned it before but whenever I install new intake gaskets I use lip balm on them. Helps them seal and be easy to remove down the line. Also Chinese replacement parts are very questionable. Some work and many don’t. That dieseling on stock single Solexes is controlled by that electric shutoff valve that some cut inside. Don’t know if dual carb models had something similar.
Hope u get it fixed I have faith in your work. All I get from China is my hobby. RC. Cars. Only once in a while off TEMU. If on a budget , but I love VW Use to have a few when I was younger. Good channel. U get rain. In Vegas only a few drops. Stay safe
Thanks my friend! I think I'll get it right, just need an agreement from the owner to get things sorted out to the best of her budget and my nerves... lol!
Did you check that the butterfly’s were centered in the throats? I’ve seen them off center before which wouldn’t allow the throttle to close all the way.
That is a good thing to check for, the carbs are coming back off shortly anyway. But I think I have some unresolved vacuum leaks that are leaving me scratching my head.... I don't think it's possible for the idle screws removed to allow the butterflies to close THAT FAR if they were off-center. Perhaps if the idle screws were floating... it would be more obvious for that to be the case. I talked to a few other people about these China carbs, I got a lot of eye rolling responses... get rid of them was general consensus. No matter, if we end up replacing these carbs I'm still going to continue to research them if the owner doesn't want them back (because I'm not going to toss/lose/steal them like that other guy.) But I really want to know why they don't work right and if it's something I can modify and repair.
@@DuckmanCycles I’ve installed or worked on several sets of these carbs and china carbs in general and haven’t had the high idle issue. However I have seen the butterfly’s not set properly in the hole, even in a few Weber sets. I do believe you have a vacuum leak somewhere
@@VWJawbreaker Yeah there's got to be a vacuum leak, but at this point it doesn't seem to be external one anymore. Frustrating. I need a hopper to grind these things up in, so I can give them back to the owner in a peanut butter jar.

LoL you can kind of smash a wrench in there and chew up the nut really badly. You can't ever tell if its tight enough though when the wrench keeps slipping off. Thanks man!
No they should be partially open, the idle screws directly affect the butterfly position. But as I said in the video, I had to pull the idle screws completely! I removed them allowing the butterflies to close as far as they will and it's still running too fast. It has to still be some kind of bad vacuum leak somewhere, and it's starting to look like it might be internal.
I love the vids man as always. I have a question for ya. What do you think about the VW to porsche kit cars? I know it comes down to personal pref but I am seriously considering one as I have an old beetle inland that is sitting in storage and the body is honestly too bad to restore - so I am scanning forums and found people that actually manufacture these bodies for the 930 that fits the beetle pan etc. So I am looking for some honest opinions around.
