I enjoy all your videos. There is so much info you put out that I would have never guessed. I would read all the comments on trails offroad that would say the trails were gutted most likely to keep all the SxS's out but come to find out they are on a maintenance schedule lol.
Thank you very much for the work you have done on the trail. It should make a lot of Flatlanders very happy. Appreciate the time you spent going over the trail/road maintenance and the differences in the scheduling, great info for those of us residing and riding here in Colorado. Great Vid, Thanks.
The 2 mud holes up towards top are ruff and I watch many going around and through willows. Good to hear they will be fixed. We put up a couple poles back up on Sunday on mirror lake side. SXS knocked them down while we we fishing.
Thank you for the info! Appreciate what yall do. So Tomichi pass is open and by way of Hancock? Then to get to Pitkin , by way of Taylor Park would be by Cumberland pass. Then drive to almost Tomichi pass? Just trying to figure out how much of the loop we will miss out on. Seems like driving as far as we can, then backtrack back to taylor park
If you are in Taylor Park, you could drive over Tincup to St. Elmo, then take Hancock Pass to Tomichi Pass, over Tomichi, and then take Black Sage Pass and Waunita Pass to Pitkin. Once in Pitkin, you can go over Cumberland Pass to get back to Taylor Park. It's a big loop and might be too big of a day for a 4x4 vehicle, but in a SxS, it's doable in a day.
@keeptrailsopen thank you so much. Appreciate all your videos and info. One of the best informative videos I've watched. Need more people in the world like you! Have a great rest of your summer!
@@keeptrailsopen great trip. A multi year Taylor Park rider said it was his best ride ever. Poles still up in the lake and the water crossing was easy. Thanks for all your work and the videos.
On Mirror Lake have you thought of placing a metal sign and post advising drivers to keep to the left bank on one side then on the other side to keep to the right bank?
Signs would only state the obvious. When I went there last year, there were some posts up, but I walked it first anyway just to be sure. Maybe putting some depth markers on the posts would be more helpful, as the lake level varies depending on the time of year.
As soon as I saw rhis I wondered if any reviews on Trails Offroad noted people should stay between the posts and preferably closer to shore and sure enough Marcus posted pics and details !!
It's on the road maintenance list to have some of the low places brought up so the road is not underwater as long as it is now during high snow years. But really, things would be fine if people would just quit driving off the road into the lake. The water is less than 6" deep with water in just a few spots, the road is clearly visible and a vehicle had to be towed out again this week... The public just can't make a good decision. It's a high traffic route between two ghost towns (just an expression, people liver there) so it would be impossible to close it permanatly.
Is it possiable to start in St.Elmo go over Hancock, curve down close to Pitkin , up Cumberland pass to Tincup, cross mirror back to St Elmo ? We are renting a jeep in Salida in 2 weeks
The route you described is called Miner's Loop. Unfortunately, due to the West Alpine Tunnel Grade closure, you can NOT go directly from the bottom of Hancock Pass to Pitkin. You would need to make a much larger loop requiring you to go over Tomichi Pass (not advised for beginners) after completing Hancock, then over Black Sage Pass and Waunita Pass to get to Pitken, and then you could go over Cumberland Pass. That would be a long day in a Jeep, and again, Tomichi Pass is narrow and dangerous in a few spots.
I came in June and rented a vrbo in Cimarron. My plan was travel to mirror lake to fish however CDOT closed the bridge at blue mesa. I tried the detour and that was closed the day I tried so rather disappointed. I camped at mirror lake last year and CDOT had 50 closed and required a 3hr wait to get through the construction if I wanted to go the black canyon. I understand hiway construction but 3 hour waits or closed with small window in morning and evening is ridiculous. I still managed to explore some new areas to me in my Jeep. I’ll be back next year.
The bridge is closed due to major cracks found. COTrip has all the info on the times/dates you can get across the bridge or around in the detour. All of the information for the other closure you speak of was listed as well as that project had been going on for years, it is now complete. I suggest going to COTrip any time you visit CO.

Absolutly!
Excellent work! Was going to hit st elmo in couple weeks than head up tincup pass but not sure with 32" that's looking little to deep 😂.
Thanks for watching. The water level is down to the road almost totally dry, you should be good for your trip.

What’s the break point of a road being closed indefinitely vs getting maintained?

There is a saying in Colorado that we have 4 major seasons here; fall, winter, spring, and road construction.
