Keeptrailsopen
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 มิ.ย. 2019
We are a 4x4 advocacy group working to keep offroad trails in Colorado and Utah open. Public land roads and trails are the common thread holding all recreation groups together, giving us access to the backcountry. If you like to hike, mtb, trail run, overland, camp, fly fish, or drive 4x4 trails for recreation, your continued enjoyment of these activities is central to our work.
We work to keep these recreation assets open for you to use. We promote education, ethics, and stewardship for all public land users, and we have 14 adopted 4x4 trails in Central Colorado we work on and volunteer across the state. We also work with land managers as advocates for 4x4 trails and participate in land use projects to ensure our access stays open.

Thanks for watching the recap.
Great year! Here's to 2025, cheers!
Thanks Tracy!
Thank you for all the hard work keeping trails open!
For sure. Thanks for watching.
Great recap! Ya’ll do so much for the wheeling community… us wheelers appreciate it!
Thanks for watching!
Y’all / you do a great job on the trails and on communicating status. Thank you for your hard work.
For sure. Thanks for watching!
@keeptrailsopen Marcus and team, thanks for what y’all do. Please come out to Pagosa with Staythetrail. Elwood Pass needs some serious education. I will let y’all stay at the campground for free. You have my contact info. I had the pleasure of writing an article for yall about Williams Pass and have volunteered a couple years back on Clohesy. If you don’t have my info, respond here, and I’ll share it with you. 🥸
Cool recap! Didn’t know CORE had started fixing the mud hole on Tin Cup! I saw the pictures said “phase 1”. Is that something that’s going to be totally repaired in the spring?
Yes, phase 2 (complete fix) will happen in the spring as soon as the snow melts. We hoped to finish it in November, but early snow pushed us out until spring.
@@keeptrailsopen Makes sense. Really glad to hear that will be fixed! Keep up the awesome work!
Appreciate your efforts on this!
Thanks for watching!
Just joined CORE. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching. We appreciate your support!
Great video #keeptrailsopen and thank you for all of the compelling evidence!
For sure! Thanks for watching.
What's even more telling with the New Miles Closed trail stats is that population density, or close access from high population centers would assumably create more issues, but the results are flipped. Park County has less than 20k residents.
Very true. I also frame it as, we now have more users and people looking for road and trail mileage on the public, but at the same time, due to closures over the decades, we have fewer options than ever. Doesn't make sense.
What are your thoughts on civil disobedience. We're going to enjoy our land. It's a fkn road!
The gulches situation is absolutely wild and incredibly frustrating! Thanks for fighting the good fight!
Thanks for watching!
Another great report. Thanks for the updates!
Thanks for watching!
A few years ago, Jerry and I drove the Teller County Roads Manager and Maintenance Super down Longwater and Hackett to look at the location Josh suggested Teller County close the road with a gate. The two locations were a mile east of the South Platte River and not in a practical location for a turnaround.
I remember that field trip and Jerry telling me about it. I thought that was Josh's idea, until I re-read the Plantiff Comment...
A new Department of Interior chief will take over very soon
And hopefully look into the Moab debacle as well
@@ZeRowe Agreed with both thoughts. I do believe this upcoming administrative change will significantly help our efforts.
@keeptrailsopen i do not thin you are even close to being correct .
@@georgesheffield1580 time will tell, none of us know the future. But, I can say with ABSOLUTE certainly that we are in a better position than if the opposition part had continued control of the Federal Government.
@@keeptrailsopen I’m seeing that Doug Burgum, the Governor of North Dakota has been picked for Interior Secretary.. he should be a good one!
Wow, how frustrating!!
Sure is, thanks for watching.
So the gulches are closed from the Park county line but there is no signage telling the trail user this? Are they planning on building some sort of obstruction at the county line?
The MVUM is all that is legally required, anything outside of that is extra
Correct. There were signs and a cable at one point, but nothing has lasted at those locations because South Park cannot manage that side of the river. Hopefully, we can come to some agreement that works for everyone.
If only the USFS would work with us instead of fight, it would make managing our sport so much easier.
You are totally correct. Some districts work with us quite well, and we get a lot of positive things accomplished and keep our trails open.
USFS is all about mowing all the trees down for corporate profit .
Blue Ribbon Coalition?
We have worked with Blue Ribbon and are currently working on issues. They support our litigation efforts in Colorado.
Corral creek (near jeffco line) has been gated closed since the hayman burn. I have seen the gate open once or twice. I believe that is South Platte ranger district. The South Park ranger district has different personnel. I know Hackett gulch is really popular. I don't want to see that one closed. Brother, I think we share common interests. Any way to contact you?
Yes, Corral Creek along with the rest have been closed since 2002. The gate gets vandalized periodically. Road starts in South Platte then goes into the South Park District. South Park still has Josh as the DR, Sarah Mayben and Kris Sexton preceded him and were both stalling the opening of the roads. My email is info@keeptrailsopen.com
Great information in this video. I am now at a point in my life that my trekking miles are becoming limited. These closures are very frustrating. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
11/12/24 just now saw this. Good work. Maybe with Trump we’ll get common sense laws/rules from the damn government.
Thanks for watching. Fingers crossed.
Haven’t driven Tomichi since 2011 when our JK was still stock width. Jeep is now roughly 83” to 84” wide-will we still fit on that shelf road leading up to the pass?
Thanks for watching. Yes, your Jeep will fit on the shelf road. Since we reopened the route, I have taken my YJ (86"+ wide) up and down the road many times.
@Keeptrailsopen has there been any movement or updates on Twin Cone.
We are still in litigation with the Forest Service over Twin Cone and several other roads. It will likely take several years for this issue to move through the courts, unfortunately.
Thanks for your fantastic efforts!
I was there many years ago with a group. French creek crossing was super hard with big boulders.
For the most part, the uphill boulders at the creek crossing are unchanged. We didn't alter anything with our work. Increased use over the years has changed the sides of the obstacle a bit. A far-right line wasn't available many years ago, and the left side seems to continue to change.
I hope you use these videos in the lawsuits that y’all fight to keep trails open. This is great evidence of responsible trail use and maintenance. Thank you. 🥸
Absolutely right...we document everything. 😉
You and your volunteers are awesome. Excellent trail rehabilitation
Thank you. Wife & I did Tomichi today. Thanks

Man. I'm gonna start wheelin sn excavator....
I wish i had a rig to run that trail. Looks fun. Nice work !!
Thanks for watching.
That is taking a lot of skill to maneuver that excavator up that road. That is a rough road up there, but you guys managed to get up there and back with a job well done. I just hope that all that travels this road can appreciate your hard work to make it a much better trail. Thanks to all that participated.
Thank you, and thanks for watching.
im thinking that Excavator + Driver earned a Jeep Badge of Honor Badge for doing that trail :) ......great job as usual.
Thank you.
26:00 lol !! okay back to watch the rest
🤣 They thought they would mess with me...and then I put it in the video!
At first I thought “oh no! They’re gunna make the trail so easy that my ex’s Honda civic can make it back there!” I see what you’re doing. Thanks for being stewards to our trails so we can hopefully enjoy them for many years to come.
For sure! The trail is a bit more difficult in certain areas after the work. But, the goal was to in no way alter obstacles or take away the desired challenge.
@@keeptrailsopen but wasn't the challenge of the trail , the creek? same thing with jenny creek... the challenge was the creek. now jenny creek is just a dirt road. ???? what the fuck is going on ???
@@kerrymarkley7702 did you watch the video? We didn't remove any of the challenges at the creek crossing.
I live on the east coast and wanted to go to Utah for 20 years and finally got out to Utah 2 years ago and had a blast but living on the east coast and seeing all our trails closing I sure hate to see this happen out west , can’t the AMA get involved to help ?
The AMA is indirectly connected to our fight in Utah. Our appeal represents four organizations. The TPA, COHVCO, RwR, and CORE. The Executive Director for RwR is on the AMA board.
It’s true, SxS users make it extremely easy to hate them.
Excellent work! Was going to hit st elmo in couple weeks than head up tincup pass but not sure with 32" that's looking little to deep 😂.
Thanks for watching. The water level is down to the road almost totally dry, you should be good for your trip.
As a new off road guy, the work you guys do is amazing. Thank you for all your hard work.
Thank you. And thanks for watching.
Thanks for doing that. My Wife had a bit of concern when the water was high. But I'd suggest going to the farm and home store and getting a post driver. And yeah, I know you would have to remove the orange wickerbills.
That sure looked like a whole lot of work put in over the years. I hope to be able to get up there soon.
Thanks for watching. Yes, hopefully the road will be open to the public again.
Cliff is a mole. Another east coast tourist that never left. Cliff is hurting the dirt bike community. None of your organizations are doing anything of substance. Your on your heals fighting what has already happened. The biggest problem is population. The desert cannot sustain a large population. The problem is tourism and tourists that don’t leave.
You continue propagating the overuse issue near Moab and other easy access points to BLM. That's not what happened in the latest decision, however. Several routes BLM cited as 'seldom used' and 'naturally reclaiming' contradict your assertion. We are fighting within the appeal phase because the party in the white house pushed the decision (it's contrary to everything in the Resource Management Plan) through political means. Your opinion of other people doesn't matter, but thanks for commenting to help the metrics and that popularity of this video.
YAY! Going up in a few days to explore
The area is still not open to the public. The wall rebuild is done, but the road grade work and drainage are still underway. The closure order is still in place until that work is finished. We should have another update in 3 weeks.
I've been going up to Alpine tunnel/Williams Pass since the early 60's. This is great, restoring one of the most remarkable railroad landmarks in Colorado. And, we have access to Williams pass once again! Thank you Markus and CORE and all the 4wheel drive community that worked for this!
Very welcome. Thanks for watching!
In the 1950's my dad took me to both the east and west portal of the Alpine Tunnel. It had not fully collapsed back then and we walked in a few hundred feet on each end. It was kind of creepy though for a 10 year old kid. I don't think I have ever been back, but I've explored many of the trails and 4WD roads in the area over the years. Great video!
Amazing! Great work over the years many people will be able to enjoy those areas for years in the future now.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for all you do to keep trails open!
For sure! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the video and all that you and Core do to keep these trails open.
Thanks for watching!
This is an historic milestone for our future, thank you for the detailed walk about Marcus. As for Onx, I blame the creators that are shilling it to new offroaders, it's inaccurate regurgitated garbage and should be treated as such.
