The Crowes have always had this insane gift for making a song their own while still capturing and paying homage to the spirit of the original version. I saw Chris's side project recently do Sugaree and Tough Mama and it was the same story. I have alot of respect for a band that's able to keep their influences alive by introducing them to their audience.
Have you seen the video of them doing the Velvet Underground's song "Sweet Nuthin"? Rich Robinson sings lead instead of Chris Robinson and I was blown away by how great Rich Robinson sang. He's got a higher voice so they thought that he was the right person to sing it and he knocks it out of the park. You should check it out..
Love the Crowes and Robinson’s , but have to admit there have been “better” eras (band members/ chemistry etc.) and there have been “good eras” - the former , they had some absolutely amazing moments
I agree but they are brothers and sometimes brothers don't get along. Chris seemed a lot happier when he became a single dude, all sorts of ups and downs. They still are the best of their time. 💞✌️❤️🌼@@hazor777
Wow! Didn't know they did such great covers of Joe's work. I felt like I was watching and listening to Mad Dogs all over again but with new energy! I'm a long-time fan of Joe so this is an unexpected surprise and very, very cool...
I'm a little late but I really do miss this band... it broke my heart a little when I found out they broke up. I'm 16 and I only got to see them once a few months before they called it quits. This is/was my favorite band of all time. I can't help but smile when I hear one of their songs turn on.
They're back together now and touring. They announced it on the Howard Stern show. Rich has about six children and he probably realized that fighting with his brother ain't gonna pay the bills. They told Howard that they would physically fight each other so badly so they had to get separate touring buses during those times. So happy that they're playing music with each other again.
Brian C. It's an excellent version, but I just don't think it beats Joe Cocker's live version back in the early 70's, late 60's. This perfotmance comes close though, I will say that.
Chris Robinson is the ultimate hippie and you can tell he loves performing. I'm glad he and his brother Rich patched things up and got back together. They were physically fighting on the tour bus so now they have separate buses. Lol Rich Robinson has a great voice too. Check out his version of the song "Sweet Nuthin". It's an old Velvet underground song. His voice is amazing too and he is a great guitarist.
@judecreek2 you've got the facts straight, and Mad dog is an amazing event to, as is Leon's performance on the benefit for bangladesh with Harrison, amazing Jumping jack Flash Cheers
@ginapotter25 what's wrong with covers? You don't have to write a song to sing it. Sinatra never wrote a song, but like Joe, he knew a good song when he heard and knew he could do it better. BTW, The Black Crowes were big time fans of Leon Russell and all the Cocker songs from Mad Dogs and Englishmen that the Crowes covered were note for note Leon's arrangements.

👏👏☺️👏👏❤️👏👏 Joe Cocker and Leon Russell would appreciate and be proud 💞✌️❤️🌼👏👏🌹

Just one example of why they are the best live band on the planet.
I have one word for this performance, "FUN"! You can't watch this without smiling and clapping your hands. I love it!

I just love the Black Crowes, I wish they'd cover some of the Humble Pie songs.....Chris would do a great Steve Marriott impression!
Not really. Steve's voice was one of the best voices in rock and roll.
They did 30 Days in the Hole
UN ESPECTÁCULO DE CORAZÓN.AGRADABLE MOMENTO. GRACIAS
VERY cool cover. Chris sings the everloving shit out of this one too.
5 big stars.
Right on Crowes!

i think the same. I'm 13 and this is my favoutite band of all time
They're back together now and touring. Rich Robinson has too many wives and children to support.

Great cover! One of my favorites.
This is crazy good.
I'm glad Derek Trucks is keeping this song alive to this day... TO THIS DAY!!
this is fantastic-and a great message...awesome piano and call and response-these guys always dig up the really cool stuff when they do a cover-
Phenomenal cover!
Thanks for posting. One of my favorites covering another of my favorites.
In honor of today's passing of Joe Cocker. The Space Captain himself. RIP
This is great. Chris gives Joe a run for his money. Almost! A fine version!!!
Great job! Leon is proud!
I love this version!!!
BEST COVER BAND EVER!!! ❤
There has never been a better version of this epic jam.
What, not even Barbra Streisand's ;)

Tedeschi Trucks Band does a fantastic version of this song
Man!! They nail this! Such feel. Stick them in any pigeon hole you like but to me the Black Crows are one of the best soul bands about.
I wasn't at this show, but I saw em perform this in Nashville and I swear to god Eddie winked at me. RIP.
im crying! Crowes, god bless u ! love u, fans from brazil
speaking as a fan of the original... this is AWESOME.
I adore this on Mad Dogs but this one is epic too!!! wahey, what a choice.

Eu adoro esses caras!!! Rock ´n Roll empueirado, de estrada!!! Puro de excência!!!
Nobody embodies the era as Leon Russell & Joe Cocker. Great attempt

I would love to hear Chris Robinson do a cover of an old Rod Stewart with the Faces song. He's got that husky Rod Stewart voice anyway.
great!

Musica de verdad!!..
Love the BC
so immersed in the music that i didnt realize that Chris and Rich were wearing the exaact same thing
@judecreek2
you've got the facts straight,

Quanto mi piacciono i Black Crowes
Best lead singer/dancer on the planet.
And the old is new again, go to Leon Russell and Joe Cocker to see the way it is really done!!
❤
@ginapotter25 All Joe's songs are covers...
Whooooooooo!
their bassist can GET IT!
We're just learning to live together!
@juanbaraka
ojala!!!!!! allí estaremos!!!!
@amoricanCrowe I totally agree. All the line ups were amazing but........again i agree. :)
He mentions before they play Welcome To The Good Times at this show, that they wore vests so we'd know they're brothers.
Next to the original the best version.
RIP Leon Russell

Keyboard player has great feel.
Ed harsch
do you remember humble pie?
Why did they have to break up? So sad. They were spectacular.
Why is there a guy wearing an Oilers jersey in the crowd? I thought they were in San Francisco, not Edmonton...
My head was at where their heads were at in 1990....
If you don't own this DVD stop fucking up and get it
why the hell did a 15 minute ad about god come on first....
Georigia boy's
chris robinson is a freakin boss.
Good video !
Take a listen to Herbie Hancock's version of this tune on YT. It's also a great version.
oh look! there's jesus! :-O
Uuuuuu
@guitplay5 Herbie Hancock came pretty close.
Nice try. Can't compare to Mad Dogs and Englishman. I was there at the Fillemore East. It was a trip!
@tattedcrowes don't get me wrong but different is not nessecarily better :)
Where the fuck have you been hiding for 20 years???
Barbra Streisand does a great cover as well.
The band never really took the message of this song to heart unfortunately. Which is too bad.... cuz they were fucking great!
black crowes is big
Marc Ford needs to work on his clapping enthusiasm. ;)
lol really?
No offense to Adam and Luther, but day-um I miss old weird Ed and Marc Ford.
