It’s common with the ware on these engines, it over hauled several with the rings doing this! Rings can’t take the heat and replace the plastic gears 😢ALL
I’m replacing one of heads on my GX690 due to the spark plug hole damaged how can I get the piston rings compressed to get the heard on without open the crank case?
That’s a good one! I know the bottom edge of the jug was tapered so if you are really careful you could probably use a small pick or tiny flat head screwdriver to walk them in. Besides that would be a 2 piece ring compressor. I know at a bare minimum if you are that deep into the motor I would at least replace the rings in that cylinder.
I believe they are 4 bolt but need to look, I will verify tomorrow. I will see if I can share the website where I got the parts breakdown and part numbers.

Agreed! we did replace the oil pump/gear but I did not replace the other plastic gears although we probably should have...
