Also every time I rewatch this I can’t get over how hilarious that moment of confusion followed by the realization for that he flipped it 😂 Cracks me up every time
Honestly, I think the issue is more you need to get your world logic on point. Like fantasy has the same problem where if you have say, have a teleport spell then the main characters get surrounded and, oh no they are screwed. If you don't put in restrictions to that spell, it begs the question, why they just doing snap their fingers and leave? Besides as soon as ships bank in space (which is like every sci fi show ever) the whole hyper realism thing is over. Problem I have with a lot of sci fi is really they introduce tech without thinking about how it changes the foundation of the world they built. I think Gundam is an example of it being done right. Where you get tech that makes handheld mech guns have the same punch as a battleship cannon and everyone is legit freaked out by it. It gets reverse engineered by everyone. Then that gun becomes the norm along with tech that tries to counter it which if you look at war, that makes a lot of sense. Kind of annoying as a simple fix to this movie is to say this stuff is new and to have everyone react to it as a terrifying thing. Really though you need structure in any story which I feel more and more they are taking the jangly keys approach of look at the flashing lights and don't think too much about it.
Yes, sci-fi is actually just fantasy with technology as a standin for magic. And just as a crappy magic system can ruin the story, so can technology. It's less about realism as it is logical consistency.
YESSSAH!! CAN I GET AN AYYYYMENNAH!!

Kurtzman at his finest...
Ah now i understand why at no point this movie made any degree of sense to me!
I am ashamed to say that I had no recollection of just how bad the writing was on this 💩 lol
Thanks, DG. I've now spent way too much time today reminiscing about how much I hate this movie.
Lol Chris
