I’m American but was born and raised in Jeddah and I consider that place my home, my parents understand why but can’t say the like it. I loved growing up there in the 80s. It’s modernised a lot from your video but my favorite thing to do was going 30 minutes outside of the city going to any beach and having the place to yourself for the weekend.
I hope to take my daughters some day so they can see it.

I’m originally from Saudi but we live in Cardiff .. That bench is a prayer mat they pull it out during prayer time and a lot of people gather to pray together and they use handle to roll it back after finishing prayer.. hope you enjoy your visit in Saudi, also Id recommend to get a small rental car to get you around or visiting another cities around £25 per day .. if you need any help with any informations hit me up

We love Wales but have never been to Cardiff or Swansea! We saw the roll out prayer mats in use in Medina... they are so cool!
Thank you for your great comment and suggestions. We prefer taking buses and trains, rather than planes or rental cars, when travelling... a) to stay within our US$25 budget each per day, and b) as we both like seeing the landscape out the window 😃😁There'll be more videos to come from Jeddah; Medina; Al Ahsa and Dammam/Al Khobar, and we hope you enjoy them 😀 ~ Mandy

Ahhh-the sea! The open sea, ocean or large lake just makes me feel better! 👍🏻
Jeddah looks like has many newly built and attractive facilities along the corniche. Pity some parts of the shoreline had rubbish-as many places I visited in the past have. Those privacy walls are the tallest I can remember.
Haha-“Bon appetite.” In Italian we say “Buon Appetito.” Your comments about “not in English” makes me laugh. 😅😅 Many years ago I told locals in Italy the expression doesn’t exist in English, they replied “What do mean it doesn’t exist!!” 😅 We celebrated Father’s Day yesterday (son works on Sundays) at a restaurant and I always start the meal with “Buon Appetito” and tease my son by asking “So how do you say that in English?” I’m so cruel…. 😂
Say hello to the peacocks in Sri Lanka… 🦚

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi Lucchese20. Maybe we don't have the expression in English because we don't pay such high regards to the making and consumption of quality food. 😂😂😂
Can't beat the open sea. The Res Sea looked very inviting there, as does the Indian Ocean which is in front of me right now! ☺️🌊
I didn't realise there were so many peacocks in Sri Lanka. Haven't seen any yet but heard heaps. ☺️👍 ~ Lee

@@FrugalTravellers There was a COMPLETE separation between "western expats" and other parts of society at that time.
I have a degree in Arabic so I was able to get out and mingle, although very few well-to-do Saudis (men only obviously) did anything but home, car, work, car, home.
I worked with Indians from Hyderabad (some who had fled to Pakistan in 1947 and some who had stayed) like your restaurant guy. They were all from the same extended family and their work in Jeddah allowed their families back home to thrive.
I'd be interested to know how many Saudis you have met, as tourism is now open. +1

Hi Sergio. That Indian food was specifically South Indian, I think from Tamil Nadu, so yes a bit different to what we are used to back home too. It was delicious and a nice introduction to something new.
Same camera, GoPro 9. The light must have been good for it on that day. 😁
Maybe we were misled by the sign we read that said families only. It could have been just in that entrance or on a specific time.

Thank you for your kind comment.
Nestle has been criticised for many things such as:
Child labour, unethical promotion, manipulating uneducated mothers, pollution, price fixing, and mislabeling
One major issue has been to do with promoting infant formula, which contributes to causing the deaths of babies
      From Wikipedia:
Advocacy groups and charities have accused Nestlé of unethical methods of promoting infant formula over breast milk to poor mothers in developing countries.[23][24] For example, IBFAN claims that Nestlé distributes free formula samples to hospitals and maternity wards; after leaving the hospital, the formula is no longer free, but because the supplementation has interfered with lactation, the family must continue to buy the formula. IBFAN also alleges that Nestlé uses "humanitarian aid" to create markets, does not label its products in a language appropriate to the countries where they are sold, and offers gifts and sponsorship to influence health workers to promote its products.[25] The company not only made use of mass media promotion (e.g. billboards and posters) and sample distributions, they also had sales people dressed as so-called “milk nurses” to visit mothers in hospital and at their home to praise formula and its benefits.[26][27][10]

Bismillah means a start or a beginning of an action to help through allah, the term is bit loose but means will & strength. Lord give me will & strength to carry on etc, it is more of an asking kind for Allahs guidance, but nowadays loosely used to start a meal and we end with Al-Humdulillah, please forgive my rough translation.
But one thing worries me about Saudi Arabia with there ambitions goals to bring tourists is the must rapidly grow domestically by building western attractions in Saudi Arabia.

Jeddah has more than 50 km along the sea. Some places are private, resorts, houses, and cornich. Some places are really beautiful specially the resorts and some are not very well maintained. Most popular places on cornich are the floating mosque and fountain.

@Drift240sxSAT Thank you for the great information! We were on foot so couldn't see much of the 50km of coastline, and unfortunately missed out on the Floating Mosque and fountain for an excellent reason which you'll see in an upcoming video 😃😁 ~ Mandy
