- Feasting on Traditional Saudi Food with our kind host @moody_photo
After one night in Riyadh, we took a road trip with our friend Moh to the beautiful oasis city of Al Hofuf.
We met our new host Mohammed, and he & his friend Khaled took us to try some of the delicious traditional food from Al Ahsa.
First was a visit to a wonderful traditional bakery where we tried delicious Red date bread and saw the tanoor oven in action!
We learnt about DIBS and tried amazing red date bread with cheese, laban and dibs!
Then we went to an awesome restaurant and had an incredible time feasting on famous Saudi dishes like:
KHABSA
HAREES
RIZ HASAWI
FATTOUSH

Finally, the time has come to watch this beautiful clip ☺️.
I, Muhammad, send my regards to you and wish you a pleasant journey ..
We also welcome everyone who wants to visit Al-Ahsa
@moody_photo Muhammad, thank you so much for your incredible hospitality, and for ensuring that we had a wonderful time in Al Ahsa.
Your kindness was truly humbling, and I hope the next videos continue to show what an excellent host you are to visitors to your lovely city! Wishing you all the best, and thank you for everything 🙏🤗🇸🇦😃 ~ Lee and Mandy
My dream is to live in saudi Arabia, Im from Essex UK, revert to Islam for 17yrs, my heart belongs in saudi Arabia esp Mecca
That is so lovely, and we hope your dream is realised one day.
At 2:05 the bakery owner confused Lee with the German ambassador in Saudi, who apparently visited the place recently.
Oh, that's absolutely brilliant 👏😁😃 Apologies for the delay in replying to this excellent comment. I hope this video shows how lovely we found Al Ahsa to be.
You can’t beat Saudi hospitality and generosity. One of the best in the world
We completely agree! We were greeted with such incredible kindness and hospitality in Saudi Arabia. In Al Ahsa Mohammed went out of his way to show us so many places, so there are at least 2 more videos to come from there.
We hope you enjoy our Saudi Arabia series:

Great vlog guys! We’ve decided we’re definitely heading to Saudi in December. Time to start planning 😃
How wonderful! We so recommend Couchsurfing as a way to meet amazing people, and to have such special experiences. The hospitality we received in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain was truly humbling 🙏🤗
The alahsa rice its dark rice almost brown
And the haris is wheat as you say
And the garish its also kind of wheat they let it to cook for 3 hours and ground it with wood stick 🎉🎉
This is Ali from kuwait🎉🎉I
Hello Ali! Thank you for your great comment 🙏😃
The Arabic brother is very good to helping guest
We met such incredibly hospitable people in Saudi Arabia, and Mohammed was definitely one of the kindest! He and Khaled were both such kind people, and great ambassadors for Al Ahsa.
Enjoying watching you vlog😃 We're expats in neighbouring country and been to Al Ahsa 2-3times. We went to Al Qarah mountain and Al Qasariyyah souq last winter. Dou you have any pinned location for the place/restaurant you went to? Thank you.
Thank you for another wonderful video. I love how welcoming Saudis are and how you two make friends everywhere you go. 😊😊
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, MDS! 😃 We felt so blessed to have met such wonderful people in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain, and they made our travels through the region so incredibly special 😊🤗

Hi Mandy / Lee,
That food / meal is mouth watering & hopefully it tasted as good as it looked.
It must be quite challenging to not eat with dominant hand.
Baking bread in them tandoor ovens must be quite interesting to watch.
Hope you keeping well, wishing you a lovely week 😊
Hello SERGIO 😃😁 It's always so lovely to hear from you, and you know I love your insightful comments.
The baker was incredible! He was in constant motion the whole time we were there, and never missed a beat! The red date bread was delicious... especially with the dibs and cheese 😋😃
Yes, as we're both left-handed, it means we have to make a conscious effort when arriving in so many countries to avoid using our dominant hand... but we soon get used to it. It's just one of the slight inconveniences with being a leftie 😃😁
I hope this finds you well and that you have an excellent week! Wishing you all the best ~ Mandy 🙏🤗
@@FrugalTravellers Hi Mandy, only in Portugal..... th-cam.com/video/8Iruq7b34xI/w-d-xo.html
The curtained area in the restaurant was interesting.
The curtained areas are for families, so women can remove their hijabs... or as in our case, so we could all just chat and video and not disturb anyone 😃😁
This is an amazing video 💙
Thank you so much! We really appreciate your kind words 🙏 🤗
Does the baker never burn his hand putting the bread in the oven?
He didn't seem to... he was so incredibly proficient when it came to baking perfect bread! 👏
That was a facinating proccess to see. Thanks for that! :)
Thank you so much, Imo 🙏🤗😍
Thank you for respecting our religion and sunnah and being so kind to all muslims.☺️I would like to know if you guys are religious and if so, which religion?
Also I enjoyed the video and you two are the cutest couple I have seen )))
@faisalghozzi7718 Hahah yes, it doesn't sound muslim because I am from Chechnya, which is located in Russia, and therefore my name is often used there too. My parents decided so 🤷🏽♀️, but of course we are still Muslims!
@karinagerikhanova1255 Thank you so much for your lovely comment, and we apologise for the delay in replying.
We don't follow any formal religion as such, but I (Mandy) believe in the Universe and a Divine Being, and I absolutely love visiting temples and mosques and churches and shrines, and feeling the energy and love and deep abiding respect from all of the people who have worshipped there.
Thank you for thinking we're a cute couple... that's so lovely of you 🤗❤️
A really interesting one. I hadn't heard of date flour either. +1
It made such delicious bread! We were so grateful to Muhammad for taking us there, and introducing us to such tasty food 🙏😁
Thanks for sharing so much great and useful information about Saudi Arabia
what a generous gesture @7:58

Arabs are so generous, imagine if you go to their country, would they be generous 🤔
The hospitality we encountered in the Middle East was truly humbling. Such incredibly kind people in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain!
When I was in China, they also had bread in a barrel like that, it was the most tasty bread I have ever eaten!
Isn't it delicious! We love tandoor/tanoor bread.
مقاطع جميله جدا ❤❤❤❤❤

Welcome to AL AHSA 🤍
Thank you! We had such an amazing time there 😊🤗🇸🇦

Marag is stew not soup and comes in veg, beef, chicken or seafood (typically either fish or shrimp).
We really liked Marag... so tasty! 😃😋

So delicious 😋
Welcom to morocco 🇲🇦
Thank you 🙏🤗
minute 9:50... I heard someone saying "berengena", which is aubergine indeed. I love Spanish words with Arabic origin
more 9:40
Yes, that wonderful bridge between two languages. 😍. Recently in the Philippines we discovered so many familiar words with Spanish. You could almost throw in a Spanish word and get away with it there. 😊
Welcome to Saudi, Come to Abha city☁️🤍
Thank you so much! Hopefully next time we will visit Abha city 🙏🤗
Mohammed Aljwaisem is a professional tourism guide
I'm not sure if he's a professional tour guide but Mohammed was such a kind host, and a wonderful friend when we were in Al Ahsa.

It must be hard to be left-handed when travelling in Saudi Arabia 😮.
It takes a bit of remembering, that's for sure... and it was the same in Thailand and Sri Lanka as well 😃😊
@@FrugalTravellers I can't say I've experienced it in Thailand but I haven't been to the Muslim regions in the south of the country.
It made perfect sense that right hand clean, left hand dirty ended up in societies' rules around the world wherever sanitation and clean water for hand washing were hard to come by.
What I find less logical is that the custom persists now, where there is excellent sanitation, only because it's in ancient holy texts, but that's the humanist talking. 🤔👍
@andrewrobinson2565 I spent a fair bit of time in Thailand back in the 90s as had Thai friends who taught English in a local high school, and you definitely weren't supposed to use your left hand for eating or passing anything 😉😃
@@FrugalTravellers Where were you at that time, more precisely? I've always found Thailand to be a very fork and spoon country, with chopsticks available for the large Chinese diaspora which found a home there 🤔😀👍.
15:15 stew
Delicious 😋
how do u find hosts?
We use Couchsurfing.
انتم من وين ؟
Lee is from the UK and Mandy is from New Zealand, and we lived in Australia.

Ok Thanks 😊

Ahsa is more exciting than Riyadh, isn't it?
Hello Khaled 👋 We now understand why you enjoy going to Al Ahsa so much! It's certainly a wonderful place to visit 😃😊 Our host, Mohammed was so kind & showed us many fascinating places, which is why there'll be at least 2 or 3 more Al Ahsa videos 🤗😁👏
To me ,Saudi Arabia is still uninvented to the world 🌎
We enjoy travelling and sharing our experiences with the world 🌎
Lee must be gasping for a Tui
He has barely drunk this year, and I've been Totally Teetotal for 2023. It's amazing to wake up in the morning and not have a hangover 😉😃🤣
