Hi Ron, the license is for PSE 2025 for 3 years, after that it stops working. If you want PSE 2026 next year that would be a new purchase. The 3 year license doesn't give you any updates. In 2024 and earlier there was no time limited license, you can use 2024 or earlier for as long as you like. Of course as always, if you want the upgrade you have to purchase the new version. George, nice upgrade with the new AI tools! I agree with the subscription problem you mention. Why is it so hard for these companies to just come up with something that is give and take, yet fair? I would not mind the three year subscription, but at least update the program for the next three years as well!!??? I am not sure what that would do with the pricing structure, PSE customer base is not going to pay much more than they currently do but I could see a small increase as a trade off perhaps?? I think I will probably just sit on this one till after Christmas and the New Years. By Feb/March they will be discounting it down another 20% or so, I can wait. By then the three year thing is not going to be as much of a big deal for me. I wonder if this decision has anything to do with the timing of when Windows 11 will be on all computers and Windows 10 will no longer be supported??? Perhaps the Windows 11 platform is going to require a major restructuring of how PSE operates!!??? Thank you for the great update! Rich
Always good to wait for sales on PSE. The real problem at Adobe is that they just don't know who their PSE audience is. They think the audience is made up of people recently out of college with a kid or two who do a lot of social media. Acording to my experience here on TH-cam the primary audience is retired or nearing retirement and with a fixed income. I am guessing they lost a lot of sales due to the pandemic and inflation. My sales dropped a lot for the same reasons.
@@99jlink I get pretty good stats on my audience from TH-cam. At the moment over 60% of my audience on this channel are over 55 and most of those over 65. Less than a third of my audience is what Adobe thinks the audience for PSE is all about. The problem with Adobe is that their core audience is corporations who like subscription payment models, better for bookkeeping as it is a use expense instead of an asset that needs to be tracked and depreciated over time.
Thanks for watching! I don't think that Adobe understands their audience for PSE. One of the top reasons most people buy PSE is that it is a one time purchase, with no time limit.
The Remove Tool is different than the Spot healing brush tool. It is more like an easier way to make a selection and then fill it with Content Aware Fill. I like the new Remove tool a lot, but since it isn't actually AI it isn't perfect. Where it works it is fantasic, where it doesn't work the old method of selections and Content Aware Fill still gets the job done.
I have a 2023 version and it now malfunctions. I was told by Adobe that the software updates are for 2 years only so I am out in the cold. I did not know back then that my 2023 copy would malfunction after 2 years- so, the fact that the 2025 version lasts for 3 years is not a surprise since mine is now not working efficiently after 2 years
I have much older versions of PSE that are still working fine. Don't bother contacting Adobe, their response is always to buy the new version. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the software. If you have any plugins installed remove those as well.
Wow thank you for the heads-up about PSE 2025 moving to a 3-year licence, didn't know that. I bought PSE 2024 because I refuse do software subscriptions, I will only pay for buy-it-once-and-it's-yours software. Now that PSE has gone that way too, I'll be sticking with 2024 until I find something else. I do have Affinity, but as a Photoshop user of 3 decades, find it difficult to switch, plus Affinity just got bought by a megacorporation whose own software is subscription-based, so I fear Affinity going that way too.
You're welcome! I think that Affinity Photo will stick with the current pricing structure because they understand that the biggest complaint against Adobe is their subscription model. So that is Affinity Photo's most competitive sales point. I will be adding lots more Affinity Photo videos to my channel, so that should help you get comfortable with the software.
@@HTGPhoto I do hope Affinity's new owners will understand that it would be a good idea to stick with the one-off purchase model for that product, in order to be serious competition for Adobe. Thanks, I will watch your Affinity tutorials - thank you for those and the PSE ones, all very helpful!
I understand your frustration. This is possibly the biggest mistake Adobe could have made with PSE. Like I have said several times in the past, I love PSE, but I don't feel the same way about the Adobe company.
FWIW Kidz, I suspect Adobe is trying to wean people from the idea that PSE is a freestanding program, and nudge it into the subscription realm. The DVD version was discontinued as of PSE 2022. Charging say $5.00 to $8.00 a month, would give them the rationale for upping the price of Photoshop itself by a similar amount. Maybe I'm just paranoid. But then again, maybe I"m not.
Thanks for covering the changes, George. I won't be buying Elements again and I will be moving to Affinity v2. Mediocre updates and I assume Adobe will move to annual subscriptions for Elements, 3 years being the starting point to rein in. No thanks
I think you may be right. The 3 year time limit may be just a step on the road to full subscriptions since this basically is a 3 yearly subscription as opposed to the yearly subscription for PS.
If you are old like me, you remember a time when PC's came with tons of software with lifetime licenses pre-installed. Dang, I miss those days. Nowadays you be lucky to have windows 10/11 home edition. Even office you must pay. Plus PC's are triple in price as well. Adobe has nice software, but they are super money hungry. Its a cringy company. And now with the software expiring? I thought I only worry about my milk and eggs expiring, not my PC software. I still cannot get over this subscription software, technically you do not own none of it. Its like a rental and an expensive one at that. If your in business, you can afford it, but most people on here and just regular folks that occasionally edit photos or videos. $60 a month is not economical. If you have a few software subscriptions, your paying $200-300 a month just to sit on weekends and play around, not counting the internet service and the PC itself. PC's are such a necessity as well.
Hate to say it, but yes, I remember those days. I also remember going to Kinko's Copies to rent Macs by the hour to do my computer work since I couldn't afford the software. Back when Adobe Photoshop cost almost $1900. Even in the year 2000 it still cost $700 and almost $1000 for the Extended version.
In the audio world, the plugin audio company Waves infamously tried an Adobe style move switching to subscription only model practically overnight (sending an "April The First" style e-mail - ironically, i think actually it was almost April - to their clients), and results - HUGE immediate backlash, people posting videos about how to replace the Waves stuff, etc. And like in a week or two, company apologized, offered huge discounts and went back to the previous pricing /i.e. the customer choice, either subscription, or not/. So customers have the power, and Adobe even after all these recent controversies, being exposed, sued, etc., still acting like that they are the BOSS, and we all are their b...s... just NO, NO. BIG NO NO.
@@pohlpiano If Adobe understood their PSE audience they would never try the subscription model. The number one reason viewers on my channel say they went with PSE instead of Photoshop is that it is not subscription.

@@HTGPhoto Wow. You’re describing me exactly!
Another great video, thanks for sharing. I don't like that it's for only 3 years!
Thanks for watching! I don't think that Adobe understands their audience for PSE. One of the top reasons most people buy PSE is that it is a one time purchase, with no time limit.
I have PSE 2024. Will 2025 override 2024 so that I can no longer use 2024 in the event I don't like 2025?
No, 2025 is installed separately so you will have both. There is no real reason to upgrade from 2024 to 2025 unless you really like the new features.
You should have used Spot healing Brush for the same task, I sense they just coppied the icons and added AI in the name
The 3 year licence is putting me off, my current version is 2020 and was hoping to upgrade this year, but think I will go to 2024 instead.
That would be my recommendation as well.
@@EzzyFallsOut If they are smart at all they will stick with the single price model.
@@HTGPhoto Here's hoping!!
I WILL never rent a program . I am done with ps
You are right, this is the first step towards a subscription based model for PSE.
It is time for customers to say BIG NO to all what Adobe has done to the market.
@@pohlpiano But they won't because too many people depend on Adobe products to get their work done.
I thought I owned the 2023 version but after my recent computer software update my Elements 2023 malfunctions. I was told by Adobe that they only do software updates for 2 years so now I am out in the cold. I am fed up with them
@@miaalbani1640 Try reinstalling the software. Also I know from your other replies that you are on a Mac. That is important to know since Elements is made for Windows and is then converted to work with Macs, so it has never worked as well or as reliably on Macs.
