VF-11 robot head -- The thing on top of the head is a laser cannon. All the variable fighter battloid modes have a laser cannon on top of the head or the side of the head. I never liked the position of the cannon on the VF-11. It only fires to the rear within a limited arc. On the VF-1, the laser cannon had a 360-degree firing arc (with the turning of the head) and could swivel up and down. It's useable in all the VF-1's combat modes. I personally think the VF-1S (Roy Fokker's Skull One) had the nicest robot head with quad laser cannons on the head. The VF-11 was a nice design otherwise. It appeared in Macross Plus and Macross 7. A feature of the variable fighters in Macross Plus (VF-11, YF-19, and YF-21) is that the fighter modes all have chines on the nose like the SR-71 and F-22 do in real life. *** *** Frankly, I think the Macross series past Macross Plus have been wildly inconsistent. I hated what I saw of Macross 7 and Macross Delta -- they're kiddy shows in the worst sense of those words. The best Macross series storywise was still the original series which got adapted into Robotech. The best Macross movie is arguably Macross Plus: Movie Edition. Macross Plus was originally planned as a feature film but was produced as an OVA (original video animation/direct to video) series by requests of the backers (Big West, co-owners of the Macross franchise). In exchange, the financial backers let Shoji Kawamori, the main director of Macross Plus, re-edit those 4 OVAs back into a feature film AND create new animation sequences. At the time of its original release in the mid-1990s, Macross Plus was one of the most expensive anime OVA series ever produced and took over a year to finish. The release of the final OVA was delayed in the West so that they could make money off the feature film (in Japan) before that fourth and final Macross Plus OVA was released internationally. The Macross Plus movie is simply better than the OVAs, IMHO. It makes more sense and has some nice sequences not in the OVAs.
I knew you would know my friend. I should have just gave you a shout out when I asked that question. I watched robotech as a kid and loved the show. My biggest issue with that show was they repeatedly used the same animations for many of the battles.
@@EagleSciFiModeler Well, yeah, it WAS limited animation and they had to crank out the episodes fast which is why some episodes and even scenes in THE GOOD EPISODES have crappy-quality animation in them. The consistency is worse in the last 9 episodes than the first 27. Some of those first 27 episodes have almost feature-quality animation in them. The last 9, not so much! Macross went horribly off-model at times but I think I would dislike it more if they tried to remake it now. It just wouldn't be the same in the current political climate. I've witnessesed this again and again with remakes over the last 15 years. They drained all the charm and whimsy out of the original Battlestar Galactica in that SyFy "remake" which was Galactica in name only. I've seen what's been done to both Star Wars and Star Trek (NOT Doctor Who; I refuse to watch that past the 2013 episodes now after hearing the "Doctor Jodie" horror stories). It's disheartening, but at least the original TV shows and movies are still available. They haven't vaulted those yet. By far the worst company at "vaulting" things is Disney. They've disappointed me more than any other entertainment company in the last 20 years...
Oh, that explains why I only had the first three parts of Macross plus (on VHS!). I finally got the 4th part when I bought the DVD a few years ago. It was really my introduction to the franchise (and probably it's peak). Love the plane designs. In the 2000s the battroids got very spindly and insectoid. I still like them, but the 90's designs are my favourite. I'm finishing up my Thunderbolt kit at the moment. After that I have VF1s, VF0s, a VF22, Y/VF19s, an SV51 etc, to build.
Good job , this is a lovely kit , the fit is so good you can "click fit" most of it . One of the more "aircraft-like " kits in the Macross world ! I painted mine in a sort of desert splinter scheme . I would question the size at1:72 , I imagined this plane would be about Sukhoi 27 Flanker size ......when in fact it's nearer F-16 Viper size , is it just me ??? Wales UK.
You always bring out the best in a kit, Rusty!
Thanks brother!
man I used to watch this over and over - and listen to ALL of the albums! Sharon Apple!
I watched the original Macross but not much more after that.
That looks freakin' amazing. I'd shrink myself and fly in it if I could. It's worthy of me...!
Lol.. thanks!
Try the Super Sylph 😆

Nice build, you get an extra point for having a pilot this time :) Like the base as well !!
Thanks brother!
Nice build, it is a great kit
Thank you

I agree it's something you can imagine flying around. Not sure about the scale to the other aircraft though , I don't know enough about it.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Just a comment for the algorithm.
