Thanks for the video. That girlfriend with benefits arrangement is what used to be called "querida" back in the day. It is part of the old DR culture where well-to-do men had "queridas" around town, even with kids, etc. and it was not unique to Sosua.

@@CompaiExpatChannel I am not quite sure of the legality, but it is possible that is there to ensure that the person gets their legal rights (particularly inheritance for kids). I grew up in a small town where, for religious reasons, being a divorced woman was seen as worse than being a querida. You can blame the Catholic church for that one. So you are absolutely right, the part-time girlfriend situation was not at all like prostitution and more like another type of relationship status Key word is "was", as you pointed out. This has evolved into what, in Dominican slang, is called "chapiadora" which is basically a sugar-daddy arrangement. I'd better stop commenting before my wife thinks I know too much about this stuff, LOL

I agree and also disagree with you. I do not know any fool or men coming to sosua looking for a wife or even a girlfriend for the past decade. Let's not make a few exception as majority. Majority of men know what is going on the island. I have been coming here for 15 years and in my humble opinion Santo Domingo is the worse place for anything. Sosua has always been honest and direct to most men. Once you land in sosua you already understand what is going on and you make your choice as to play the game or be a hero. Santo Domingo is worse with the pay for play and many implant Europeans in place with the apps and the super escort businesses. There is a reason why there is a Cabanas every block in the country and the Americans just played the game and Europeans pretend to play the long game. All parties is at fault but in my opinion this is a worldwide problem. Women around the world with social media influences have changed the game and now it is all about money. Plus the foreigner speaks Spanish, lives in the Dominican Republic permently, they have children, and most importantly the foreigner is providing the lady a lifestyle that would have been unattainable without the marriage.
