it must've been really hard for andrew (evan) hearing "your mom isn't going anywhere, your mom is staying right here" ( 2:13:49) days after his mom passed away. I don't think his cry was 100% acting
Do we know the date on this tutorial/ whether it was after? I can't imagine how emotional that scene must've been every night, and he's said he didn't want to take time off, idk how he did it (idk how he did any of this in general lmao Broadway actors are on another level)
@@adelinereactsaccording to Andrew, he debuted as Evan on his 17th birthday (May 7, 2019), though I’ve also heard he starts January of that year when replacing Taylor Trensch so it’s between January and May. And then his mom unfortunately passed away in August of that year
Depends on who is doing it, Andrew's Evan I think started it, and Jordan Fisher did the same. Andrew is a remarkable story teller, his Evan is amazingly good.
@@Gee-xb7rtYeah no. Ben did it too. Just slower and less memorably cuz he wasn’t a literal teenager. Andrew also needs more literal steps to cover the same ground 😂

wow....I didn't really like DEH before this.....but now I'm like, damn, maybe it IS a little good! This hits a little! Thing is, I really prefer Andrew Barth Feldman's Evan to Ben Platt. In this version, the character just makes so much more sense, and is way more sympathetic. I sort of feel like Ben Platt will sacrifice story beats for a good note or belt...whereas Andrew Barth Feldman isn't performing that way. Like, take the "If you're falling in a forest" section of Waving Through A Window. There's a moment where we can hardly hear him, where he's totally in his mind, consumed by anxiety...he HIMSELF is confused...Whereas Ben Platt makes that line real loud and clear in his Tony performance. Like, Ben Platt is making sure the audience knows it's an important line, giving us all this metaphorical wink. Anyway, sorry if that was harsh. I just feel like Ben Platt is such a performer...but in my book, vocal chops should always serve the story-and not the other way around! Okay, back to watching.
@@juliashirokova8374 he wasnt rlly mumbling tho was he? i think what he means is that he prefers ppl who put acting above singing... Stephen Schwartz said the same thing
The person who originates a Broadway role will always have impact on that part. Through the workshop process, the creators tailor the role to the strengths of that particular actor. It's hard to tell where the actor ends and the character begins. Ben Platt's natural twitchiness became an attribute of Evan Hansen. So, every future performer is going to carry on some of that legacy. To expand: some roles become completely intertwined with the original performer. And those performers "own" that role. Barbara Streisand in "Funny Girl." Robert Preston in "Music Man." Rex Harrison in "My Fair Lady." Ellen Greene in "Little Shop of Horrors." Other actors can do a great version, but they will never truly equal the original. I saw Lea Michele in "Funny Girl." She was great, but just doesn't have the comic talents of Streisand. (No one does.) So, Andrew isn't mimicking Ben; it's that Ben is an integral part of Evan.
The direction was also very specific - Andrew Feldman said that even on his second to last performance he was still getting notes on how to perfect his acting. He talks about it here: th-cam.com/video/QnJzKt0ZuXA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XrcG_W09Sqj9mw90
I always wondered about that... Maybe Andrew had a cold during this performance, so they used someone else for the kissing scene. Or maybe Andrew got delayed in the bathroom?
