Awesome vid, thanks. For anybody wondering if you can open/close the roof automatically using the motor after doing it manually - yes it is possible, at least it was possible in my case. Although I think I had to give my car a bit of break (15-30 min) after it went back to normal. I had hit this video because suddenly the back part of roof didn't go up to make the space for the prt of boot to go down. So I used the manual way to close the roof. But then I had the red light saying that roof isn't closed, i couldn't close it using motor anymore... I was sad that now I have to go to mechanic to fix it. But maybe that won't be needed since now it works again using motor. But probably i have to take it to.mechsnic anyways because maybe some roof part is in bad condition. Recently i was opening the roof during the wind while going 20-30 kmh and i heard some plastic be broken. Maybe it's because of that my roof mechanism is "weaker". Lesson learned, with a 12 year old car don't use too much speed when opening or closing the roof. P.s. if you follow this video remember to have the cable out when closing the boot! Otherwise you will have troubles opening it since you can't open it while the car is in "opening roof" mode!
Thank you for your video. Have you encountered a situation where the bowden cables fail to release the deck? Passenger side appears to have worked but driver side cable does not release the latch, despite being fully extended. Thanks again!
@@jdcarsek1557 Hey no problem. Thanks for the reply. My guess is that the stuck release and soft top closing failure are the same problem. Time to pull some panels.

I have a problem with a car I'm working on, maybe you can help. I have a 2013 BMW 128i that I am trying to replace the rear shocks on. Need to open the boot to get to the upper shock mounts. Now the trunk won't open, again no trunk related codes. I have to get the trunk open to do anything with this. When I look at the upper back seat to try to get into the trunk through the inside all I see is the container bag for the conv top. Any ideas how I can open this trunk?? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. We did have this problem And the only way we did it was to dismantle the rear seat and pull off the boot panel which exposed the emergency release cable inside Terrible design I know That's how we got the boot open When the boot switch was inoperable

The alien key used in the vid
Use this to release the roof
Lift the rear of the roof
Pull the 2 release in the boot
Lift the rear of the roof
Lift the cover panel
Put the roof into the compartment
And close the cover
If the boot won't open
You'll need to dismantle the rear seats

How to re-position/reset the two cable in the trunk
Push the cables back in
Then it'll need repaired
I'm sure you can read positions of the switches with the scanner
It's been a while
