    So, Luke’s mom, actually, annoyed me, sadly. I mean, I never want to cast negative onto grieving parents. BUT, blaming DannyLee for owning the car, is absurd. She says if DannyLee didn’t make the choices he made, Luke would be alive…. Luke made the CHOICE to get in the car. Her reasoning is junk, and, AS A PARENT WHO HAS LOST A TEEN CHILD, it’s absolutely disgusting to blame someone who is not responsible. It’s disingenuous, and I don’t respect it. At all.

      @@rec.thecritic I completely understand that, and am not trying to be inconsiderate of that fact. However, if it were my child who owned the car, the amount of guilt they would have throughout their life, would be sufficient. NOT for the driver! They need prison!

      I understand both sides!! I think what Luke's mom was trying to say but it didn't come out right or was expressed properly was that she blames Danny Lee because he was the driver of his car, and was in direct care and control over it!! Knowing that his cousin was not an experienced driver and that he may not be as careful as he should, Danny Lee never should have let his cousin drive his car on that night with other friends in the vehicle with them!! When his cousin was driving recklessly, Danny Lee should have intervened much sooner before the accident happened!! This is what I believe Luke's mother was trying to say and if so, I do agree that he is responsible for the crash for aiding and abetting!!

    I'm the mother of 3 adults and 1 teenager and we have to stop the mentality of "they're young and stupid, we've all been there". Since all my kids were old enough to understand I started talking to them about all these "young and stupid " behaviors. I purposefully showed them car accidents and even showed them pictures of mangled bodies after accidents (if you look for them you'll find them). I showed them documentaries of prisons, maximum security jails, etc. Police interrogations were also part of the repertoire as well as videos of people under the influence of drugs and alcohol. When they went into puberty I used some of their school break time and made them do a project on STDS, teen pregnancy and how to take care of babies. I'm sure I'm going to be criticized here but I'd rather do that than not do anything to prevent my children from not thinking things through. My 3 adult ones tell me that what I did worked. At least I tried!

It was intentional recklessness, the fact that he could lie so blatantly, be so cock sure he could get away with it,traumatise everyone by his gross deception and at his age so drunk, was an accident waiting to happen.

    No words will fix nor help this sad situation. I have a 20 year old son and a 18 year old daughter, both drive and l know too well how this age group drive as l too travelled and drove at those ages sometimes in a reckless manner. There is no excuse for it only a lack of maturity and experience. I do worry alot as young people are always in cars wether it be my children driving or their friends and it's truly frightening to think how easy a human life can be lost in the blink of an eye. Documentaries exactly like this really need to be used in high schools and even before a licence is given to educate our youth and hopefully it will stick in their minds. The people excusing this with the “kids do this” bs enrage me. No, MOST kids don’t do this. Arrogant, selfish, ignorant, careless, and extremely immature kids with no sense of responsibility do this. This is more than taking a “typical” risk. This was illegal driving without a license, recklessly speeding while drunk, THEN the person doing all of this, leaves the scene of the accident (also illegal) and cowardly convinces his cousin to take blame of the accident and death of his friend. He lies to the police multiple times, still trying to avoid the consequences of his actions with ZERO remorse and refuses to take ANY accountability. Don’t equate this to acceptable or understandable behavior because it’s neither. It’s ego, arrogance, stupidity and ignorance. A blatant disregard for the safety of his friends and other people on the road. If YOU did this as a teenager, shame on you. You were WAY out of touch with reality and if you’re still trying to excuse or justify this horrible tragedy with the sentiment that “kids take risks” or some other bs statement- you’re still way out of touch with reality. Kids WILL read your comments and think it’s okay to be reckless on the roads because that’s what kids do. It’s not what cars or roads are for. They’re not for fun, they’re to travel from point a to point b. Period.

Of course kids take stupid risks, but this was beyond the norm, and would be more lucky to not have a serious accident, rather than unlucky to be in an accident.

      I agree. So many of us as new drivers and out to enjoy the new freedoms that cars give us. When I was 16 I couldn't wait to get my driver's license. Being from the midwest in my teens driving and having your own car was everything.
      One Saturday, 2 of my younger sisters and their 2 friends were all in my car. I was speeding at their urging, we were having fun. The roads we were on were well used country dirt roads. I knew the area in the boonies well. I had a boyfriend that lived in that area. So, Beautiful mid morning we were flying up a small hill but when we crested the sun popped in my eyes! It wasnt until it was too late to hit the brakes that I'd ran the STOP. I was slamming on the brakes, sliding thru on the dirt gravel. I think there was some squeeling coming from some of the girls. Maybe it was me. When we came to a stop, we looked back realizing we got dsmned lucky. This country road often had combines, harvesters, huge tractors and drunk old men in pickups. We ere so lucky, so very lucky. If I had been hit or hit one of these huge farming vehicles, no doubt all five of us wouldn't be here and 2 families would have been devistated.
      This was only one of a few incidents that could have taken our lives. 😢
      Teens don't generally go out to risk our lives. It's our impulsively and youth that are more likely than not find us drawn to these situations.

    Prayers be with the families involved in this. How could Dannylee get more charges than Zax? Because he let him drive intoxicated? If so, then, by those rules, why was Sonny not charged also? or because it was his car? By those standards, if a passenger in our own car, are we held accountable for everything the person driving our car does just like them? That is ridiculous! I have never seen a case end so "unjust" like this. Zax should have been charged with murder, dui, leaving the scene of an accident, and I am sure there are more. He also should have got no less than 50 years. Sorry to Luke's Mum but I don't think Dannylee should have been charged with anything. If he wasn't driving at the time of the accident how can he be charged with no license or insurance? Because it is his car?? Again... ridiculous! This is a sad story all around. The issue I have with the whole situation is the officer trying to get information from Dannylee when he is so obviously in shock. Anything he said should not have been allowed in court as he was not read his rights and he needed medical attention even if he declared he didn't- I mean just look at the car...everyone should have gone to hospital. I can understand the charges against Dannylee because he should have been declared as the "responsible licensed driver who was in charge of the car being driven by a non-licensed driver". I would also look into Zak's dad's whereabouts on that night. How did Zak get home? Where was his Dad? Zak's family tried to cover for him. Zak must have some angel on his shoulder as he was clear headed enough to leave the scene leaving a stunned/shocked Dannylee to pick up the pieces. As far as Dannylee being responsible for Luke's choice to ride along...I am sure Luke was very capable of making his own decisions and he chose to go for the ride. Dannylee cannot be responsible for Luke's choices.

    Wait I am confused. How come when it was proven Dan wasn’t the driver he still got 6 years?? Said for aiding and abetting? I don’t think that is right at all. One they were young boys and not to justify it but I mean young people don’t always think what could happen and him letting his cousin drive to teach him was a mistake but a 6 year mistake? Also that was a serious crash and yes at first he said he was the driver but right after at the scene of the crash he then said he wasn’t the driver and was confused. Which could be from that crash because after that he was firm with the police that he wasn’t the driver and that it was his cousin Zac. So from day 1 he wasn’t trying to help his cousin. It was th e police that didn’t believe him. I don’t know am I missing something or does anyone else feel like the loss of his friend and the guilt he has to carry is punishment in itself since he wasn’t even the driver ?

      (Danny Lee) "Ross-Barringer, also from Paulsgrove, admitted he had been 'showing off' and said his cousin had been attempting to copy him.", ie: they were both driving very dangerously, and either of them could've caused an accident. Also *neither* of them had a driving licence, he would've clearly known that Lukes seatbelt was useless(he was *holding* it in place), and he let(& possibly encouraged) his drunk cousin drive.
      Danny "admitted aiding and abetting causing death by dangerous driving, aiding and abetting causing serious injury by dangerous driving, aiding and abetting causing death by driving unlicensed and aiding and abetting causing death by driving uninsured."
      Albeit Zax obviously had an appallingly callous attitude.

    DannyLee was as responsible as Luke. While he didn't deserve to die, and that's what it's called an accident, DannyLee wasn't driving. His cousin had a lot to drink and it's too bad that the 3 boys didn't realize it. If they did an they all got into that vehicle, they're all as guilty as the other. No one deserves what happened, but, they all had a choice and I hope they didn't choose to get into a car with a person they knew was drinking heavily.

  • @donnaanderson2

    People please dont judge mom for saying she blames Dannylee as much or more than Zax. She is grieving the loss of her child from a very traumatic death. You cannot imagine what this does to a mother's mind. And I hope you never know. She has played over and over again the "what if" and "if only" game in her head trying to figure out what went wrong and how she could have saved her child. Most of what is going thru her mind is nonsense. It's trying to connect dots that will never connect. It's trying to use logic when your brain no longer possesses any logic. Because when you lose a child in this manner, nothing makes sense, no matter how hard you try to make it make sense. And I would bet my life that she does blame herself, in so many ways. They are all wrong, just like many of the thoughts that race past a mind that is stuck on high speed. It throws images and morsels of thoughts past your eyes without ever slowing down to rest, not even in sleep, which comes only rarely and in short spurts. She feels pain, emptiness, broken, guilt, shame, confusion, pride, love, longing, anger, honor, but mostly she feels numb. Time stops and in that instant, everything about you, down to your very core, changes, dies, and a new person is born. Someone you dont recognize in the mirror, someone who questions everything and everyone. Trust doesnt exist, but fear does. Your will to live even one more day in this new world and new body is just not possible. The bouts of severe trauma depression and even suicidal thoughts are constant and they bombard you day and night. If you dont have good caring people around you for support you wont make it. So please dont judge this mother for her feelings, her feelings are valid, they are real, and we need to be sympathetic and understanding. We dont have to agree, just allow her to feel however she feels. You are not walking in her ugly shoes. Her shoes are those we all wear as mothers who have lost children to traumatic deaths. I am coming up on 10 yrs into the ugly shoes club and I will never again be the person I was before that one single moment in time. I even got a new pair of ugly shoes 7 years ago, and I hate them as well. I wish that no mother anywhere from now till time ends would never know the horror of having to bury their child, nor to have to carry on living with the images and heartbreaking thoughts of losing them to a traumatic death. Instead of judging her for something you cant imagine, I ask you to instead show her a little bit of compassion. And if you have kids, of any age, hug them a little bit longer, a little bit tighter tonight, and thank your God that you still can. Some of us will never hug our children again. Judging us is not helpful, it's cruel. We feel how we feel, she feels how she feels, and I assure you, she has earned those feelings, she paid an extremely high price for them. Say a prayer for her, then one for you and your children. No one is ever told that they are next, or even that they are on a list. We just assume our kids will live, grow up, become adults, and be there to bury us. No one ever really explained the possibility that we could be burying them. No one allows themselves to consider such things. Until they are forced to. And your brain starts talking all kinds of crazy shit. Let it be. You may be next. I wont judge how you feel. I already know what it's like.

    • @lisaeaker9064
      @lisaeaker9064 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      The thing about it is it's more unhealthy for her to blame an innocent person who is hurting from the loss as well he doesn't deserve that from her or anyone she needs to realize her child made a decision just like everyone in that car did the faster she can understand the sooner she can start to heal

    • @donnaanderson2
      @donnaanderson2 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@lisaeaker9064 but who are you to decide when or how she realizes things you can never understand? So you get to judge her but she isn't allowed to judge him. Okay, I got it now, thanks for clearing that up for me.

    • @donnaanderson2
      @donnaanderson2 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      And remember, I didn't say whether she is right or wrong, I merely asked people to not judge her harshly, simply because when your child dies a horrific traumatic death, no one can explain what happens to your mind, your whole thought process. It will take her exactly how ever long it takes her to learn how to cope with what has happened. I do feel bad for the guy who wasn't actually driving or lying, however he did let the guy drive his car which was outside of his normal bounds. That doesn't make the death his fault, but for a mother who is 24/7 searching for why, she has in her mind assigned him some blame. Hopefully that will change someday and they even have a talk about it. But until then, I think she has had to bare the bulk of the load of loss here, if it's hard for him, Im sorry but that's life too. I just asked people to take it easy on her. Until you walk in those shoes, you don't get to decide when she thinks what. You haven't earned that privilege, and I pray you never do. Though it would change how you think and that would be a good thing, I still would never wish the experience on you. Have a great night.

But with that being said. I'm glad I'm not doing that type of work anymore. I've fine. Well, except for my severe physical disabilities. But I function well dveryday with my family and friends. Its just that the most awful Emergency situations stay with every Emergency Personnel for life. You can't do that job and not be emotionally involved. You can try but some will just tear you up. Especially, when you have a family. I'm glad I was able to do that type of work but I'm glad I won't have to see some people at their worst and lowest. Especially how drunks walk away fine but destroyed a families life forever and not even really seem to care. The only thing they care about is how they can not get in trouble for what they did while on drugs and alcohol. 9 out of 10 say it wasn't really their fault. Sorry for rambling but their are some people in this world that society would be much better off without them walking and driving around.
    So they think justice is giving the drunk driver a person that purposefully drove like a mad man 8 years and the guy that let his drunk friend drive get 6.
    The actual driver only got 2 extra years. 35 years for the driver 15 years for the goof that let him drive. Apparently, all court systems have failed the victims snd society. The criminals have more rights than the good honest law abiding citizens.

    39:40 seriously?! I mean I understand she loves and misses her child, nothing will ever hurt worse than the loss of a child. It's against nature's Way, the parent is supposed to die first; but she's still angry with DL even after knowing that he's not the one that did this. And I think Zach subconsciously did this on purpose. He doesn't have a vehicle, and his cousin is driving him around. He has the money though so he can put gas in the car in demand to drive, plus with him being older, he has that going for him too. She needs to learn to forgive Danny Lee and to be mad at Jax alone. If Zax was driving DannyLee would have a hard time pulling Zax out the car because the car would have him on bottom from driver side

    And I thought our legal system was bad.... (USA)
    DUI nope, reckless driving ending in death nope, aiding and abetting finally got one... 6 years.... while the murderer gets 8.... where are the perjury charges? where is the leaving the scene of an accident charge ? (if there are those types of charges available)
