Reviewing The Bf 109 F-4 | War Thunder Sim VR

- The people have spoken! Many of you have decreed that the F-4 is the most formidable Bf 109 for its tier/battle rating in War Thunder. I'm inclined to agree with you, though the G-10 and K-4 hold very dear places in my hear (expect to see videos on them at one point!).
The F-4 sits right in the middle of the 109 tech tree, perhaps that's why its so good? Everything around it is neither too overpowered or underpowered compared to it. Most combat engagements don't feel decidedly one-sided like you find at other tiers. Perhaps I'm just biased because I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST playing this thing over the past few days and falling in love with it all over again.

Those frame drops happen in any gamemode. And not just in VR. It is when you fly into someone's oil trail. Its very annoying when trying to kill bombers, and the screen locks up. Especially with .50 cals or less, because you have to be accurate with shots to do anything.
Yes I noticed after that game that it seems to only be if the enemy is trailing oil or water
In vr i find any pending update ruins game play . My rig is on weaker side . I ll go from 74 fps to 25 because window s or steam or somthing else that updates daily starts screaming . Thats with no notifcation s its fucked
Sorry if this one feels a bit rushed, because it was - less than 36 hours from recording to upload. After loosing all of my footage from the weekend it was a mad scramble to get this week's videos done before I go away on Thursday. Stuff should be up to scratch again next week :)

Mate how high is your standard, I record, throw everything in Premiere, cut it to about 30 mins and go with it 🙈
I know that with our mode, sim, we'll never grow really big anyway, its too niche. Exceptions apply (see your exploit video), but the average views are around 1k I guess.

@@TeaRexChannel That would presuppose, that poeple have a general interest in sim in the the first place, which just is not the case for the majority of wt players. There is just not enough critical mass for a sim channel to take off really.
If youd focus on RB with that type of high quality, you could get somewhere, but we are a niche and will peobably always be one.

Yup. Tunisia, Stalingrad, Maginot Line. They are all "combined" maps that can be found across the different game modes
quite crazy when taking into account that at it's BR it fights aircraft that generally have been put into service 2, 3 or sometimes even 4 years later then the F4. Just imagine how this bird would actually own if it would fight it's comtemporaries.. P40E, Buffalo, Wildcat, Mig3, Lagg3, early Yak1 , Hurricane 2c and alike. The only aircraft coming close would be the early Spit Mk5

I think it is worth mentioning that the BF-109 F-4 engine's power settings did get improved a bit throughout its service life, but the same is true for many other aircraft.
Gaijin propping up their U.S. clientele as always. Just so they abuse the heck out of the game with moronically overpowered U.S. fighters using turrets in Sim ... SMH

yeah but actually its faster than the spit because the spit its running on the same crappy fuel
@@santiagoperez2094the spit has better fuel for example the spit mk2 has fuel that it got during the time of the 109f4 that made it faster then 109e3
The pro tip is running the Romanian 109G2 instead of the other ones if you have it, same BR in sim but with a sizable speed/climb boost
13:54 I know that with almost everybody flying the P-61 in mouseaim mode it does not really matter.....but as someone who has actually flown the Widow from the cockpit, I feel I can safely say that those nose guns are actually twenties, four of them.
I really like these twin-beam designs, so after the P-38s this was the plane I always wanted to fly. What I really missed was the ability to lock the turret in forward position, and use it as fixed weaponry. Not that any additional firepower was needed, but in fact I had to fly with turret guns switched off, as the trigger-happy gunner would always spoil my favorite attack (dive from above, dip below and fire on the way up).
Right, 20mm in the nose! Of course! I should have picked up on that but I was a walking zombie when I made this one xD

Love your vids budd, 3.7-4.7 is prob the most fun you can have in air sim. Miss flying my jets though due new repair costs. Also trailing behind smoking planes drops your frames. Been happening since the engine update.

Thank you for trying to save me but sadly fileoffish really hate me after I deflected shot him for twice so he decide to chased me all the way to the base. I never realized you was helping me at the game and I was really new back then (A year ago!) nice kill at 13:19 and thank you for avenge me! After that I just hoped in to my 109F4/trop and do another mission :) Yes Tunisia is my favorite map too! 13:50 yes I must admitted that I tried to do turn fighting with my flaps so I can shot the P-61 from his zenith because I don't like his turret gunners. 15:55 looking at the stats probably I was still grinding the 109F4/trop back in the day

Also works nicely with MEC.
Keep Prop pitch automatic but adjust the rads as needed, fully opened during climb and 10 to 20% during level flight.
Just keep your hands away from the WEP that thing overheats pretty easily

The 109s are what I started my sim career in in 2013/14. Always had a weak spot for them.

This may surprise you but I barely trim it. Sometimes the elevator when I'm climbing but that's it!

F4 is my favourite plane but I can't really fight against many of the allied planes. spitfires are especially hard for me
With any German plane, climb, climb, climb. Also you can dive faster and sustain higher dive speeds.
Yeah I know that but generally when engaging enemies(in sim) you tend to get tangled up with lower enemies and then get jumped by new enemies. Even at same altitude spits tend to win no matter what I do
@@TheJere213 Spawn at the airfields at the back of the map, gives you more time to climb. If you dont have any advantages over a spitfire chances are youre gonna die. Mind you I never run into a hole lot of good spitfire pilots, mainly because it takes awhile to mess with the settings because its so janky. Also go for the highest target you see not the lowest, with in reason of course.

I just flew out for first time had a very fun dogfight with an F4U but I had to desperately escape because the camera I was using for track IR fell off my monitor midfight still a joy to fly though
F-4 is my favorite 109 variant for its Superb speed retention...when flown correctly to it-s strengths ...very hard to hit !
Man I can only play AirSim with jets. Flying with props is always the same, an endless turnfight.

All the planes are sooooo nicely visible, even at distance. Meanwhile i have trouble even tracking already spotted targets not to mention finding them. Am I missing something here or is it just another VR advantage?

Its a combination of PostFX and VR. The game renders shadows a bit weird in VR so some "dots" appear really far out

But the G-2 is also at 4.0 and is so much better in every way except for having slightly worse visibility. I don't understand why people prefer the F-4 over it. The F-4 used to have much better visibility and sit at 3.7, but ever since it got nerfed, I don't see any point in picking it over the G-2. Edit: The F-4 doesn't have 20mm gun pods, it gets 15mm. The G-2 gets 20mm pods

f4 is lighter and more manoeuvrable and I think its faster at low altitude not sure

In sim it is low altitude fighting so f4 is better suited

The 20 mil is very useful, it's what makes the enemy break or set afire most of the time
The 20mm mine rounds are arguable the best cannon in the game. Most of the time, 1 to 4 rounds will decimate a enemy plane.

I fly in VR, so I only record my right eye, otherwise you would see two screens

bc u cant look behind u to keep track of targets while u are trying to turn
You can get some good head trackers on a small budget, which will allow you to look around!

back in the day (15:55) my K/D was 5/4 but as of today my F4/trop had K/D over 5/1 (1240/240) thanks to TeaRex tutorial :D

i never really liked the 109's, their handling is not my cup of tea, i always do much better in the fw 190's
The guns of bf 109 f4 are currently so shitty that id rather have hispanos or nr 23s on it
