- In the summer of 1835, the annual Rocky Mountain Rendezvous convenes in what the Green River Valley of what is today the state of Wyoming. Trappers, tribes and traders from all over the territory have gathered to enjoy a rare break from the toil and turmoil of life on the frontier. Furs are traded, games are played, and whiskey is consumed in copious quantities.
While most at the rendezvous enjoy the festivities peaceably, one trapper, a French-Canadian named Joseph Choinard has become belligerently intoxicated and increasingly combative.
Finally, word gets to legendary mountain man Kit Carson that his wife, a beautiful Arapahoe woman named Singing Grass, has been repeatedly insulted by the hulking Choinard.
Carson, enraged, challenges Choinard to a one-on-one duel, here in the middle of the rendezvous. This is almost unheard of in the history of the Old West, and what happens next, is the stuff of legends…

They should play your videos in schools on lazy days with substitutes these videos are informative and entertaining!
They are informative, so would never be shown in schools
Nowadays they make the lead characters women and gay
I believe that few schools would put up with these stories, sad as that is, it seems that they are in great opposition to truth, they would much rather 'rewrite' history to fit their latest narrative...
Nope, Rockefeller owned education isn't interested in historical accuracy and in the words of John D. Rockefeller, "we want workers just smart enough to push the buttons and pull the levers in our factories." So we're just giving the Thanksgiving/Mayflower fairytale. But, I will agree with the positive sentiment for the channel. I just binge watched most every video available.
Bravo 👏, History at the OK Corral.
I could have went from 5th to 8th grade, knowing this stuff.
A great story, expertly told. I'm glad he won. He is my Great, Great, Great Uncle.
We are still dealing with this type of. character up here in Canada. Unfortunately we don’t have a Kit Carson although we have high hopes for a guy named Polliviere.
😂❤
Thanks!

History more fascinating than any fiction.
I enjoy your tales. Good voices, good stuff!!! Thank you!
What an awesome history is the American West.
Mythological characters of courage and raw ability.
Except for the fact that they were real flesh and blood humans.
How on Earth was one Sniffer Brandon ever pupped in that Great Nation let alone become President.
I wonder what those Mountain Men would have made of him?
I love this channel!
For the algorithm 👍🏼

To my shame I must confess, never heard about this duell in detail ,thanks a lot! Carson was all but never a killer ..Best regards from Northern Germany Ludwig.

Another excellent video. Thank you.
Kit Carson. I seem to remember seeing a movie about him and a woman named Kat Baloo. They both ended up in a kinda rodeo/shooting circuit. You did an excellent job covering Kit's. I like those old fashioned gun slingers. Thank you 💛 again Sir for your work.

Grew up in Wyoming, finally finished the Oregon Trail.
9:38 That's a Charles Russell, although I don't see the signatory buffalo skull.
I heard that chanard cried in a ball of submitttance to Kit Carson . Wreathing in pain of his wound .
Ya'at'eeh from Apacheria in the Arizona Territories ahe'hye'e
The background music is too low! You can barely hear it now, and it added a lot. Turn back up please!!!
Great story telling again . Thank you.
Everybody from back then looked like they were made out of granite
They had a plastic camp ? Who knew
I am 1K,,but I think kit shot him in the shoulder,, not wrist
By the sounds of it, if Joseph Chennard(?) had won this encounter, he wouldn't have lasted much longer, with his big mouth! 🤨 Kit did everyone a favour. 🙂
After learning more about Carsons history I find him not so honorable a man, however, I know better than to view history through modern eyes.
Please do me one favor: leave the plains, change this boring guitar pickin' sound. All the people you're talking about had rhythms. They had power, they used drums! They didn't wait until the sky crushed their heads. They were people dancing, singing, stomping around. They don't sat on their arses, they were loud, they were drunk, they didn't watch the growing of the grass, they watched the roundings of their female followers. That's the point...
